We are pretty balanced against both righties and lefties.

  • our short-side platoon guys are better fielders
  • they are also better baserunners
  • Vlad, Springer, Kirk, etc. gain the splits advantage
  • Barger and Lukes make for great pinch hitters against the Yanks righty-heavy pen

Ya its hard to argue with the results of 162 games but we all know it just takes 1 bad move in the playoffs for all that goodwill to be thrown out the window.  Lukes/Barger are clearly the better players overall so if IKF/Straw dont perform well if given a starting role then there would be outrage.

Anyways so excited for tomorrow.  Most meaningful game played since 2016.

Luis Gil over Will Warren is questionable

Warren 162 innings, 4.07 FIP, 100 Stuff+ and Location+
Gil 57 innings, 4.62 FIP, ugly K and BB rates, 100 Stuff+ 93 Location+

Are they scared of throwing WW because Toronto dunked 8 runs on him that one time?

Gil faced Toronto and only had 1 K in 6 innings. Avoided runs but didn't get whiffs.

Gil tends to minimize the damage.

Only gave up more than 2 runs in two of 11 starts. 1 of his last 10. Warren probably stands a better chance of being great, but I think they feel they will score runs against Toronto so they just want to minimize the damage against.

That Warren game where he got smoked probably looms although I think they thought he may have been tipping pitches in that one.

Yeah I had just assumed they would be going with Warren. Gil has had maybe 2 good starts all season.

Roof should be open for both games this weekend. Temps in the mid 20s with no rain in the forecast.

Thats sad. Really odd that he wouldn’t even be able to DH? Like how bad actually is this injury? What happened to that “good” second opinion?

Im guessing they will ask Gausman/Game 2 starter what they prefer.  Im sure there are numbers being calculated behind this lol.

Doesn't MLB decide and not the team?

I don't think this means he can't DH. You can be a "regular" while DH'ing.

It would slaughter your OF defense if Santander is also playing but it can be done.

If Bo is the DH I doubt Scamtander even starts. Pinch hitter.

Can't have Springer and him in the OF in a playoff game. Crazy bad.

Exactly

They have to weigh all that

I remember this issue a few years ago. It’s not just how good the weather is a certain day it’s the consistency. I remember they wouldn’t open the roof in because it was projected to be colder for the next game. And both games were played on sunny days indoors when it was 70 plus. Tomorrow and Sunday look good but a projected Game 5 looks cold.

I remember the reasoning being very stupid and a lot of people arguing about it. It’s no secret the vast majority of fans want it done to be open, Apparently it only needs to be 15C to have the roof open where they would feel comfortable without any issues.

Big game Gausman though. It's a problem.

Not really. Gausman was pitching a great game in the 2022 wild card series and was let down by Tim Mayza who allowed all 3 inherited runners to score, including a wild pitch and home run. Gausman had a tough outing in 2023 to be certain, but that's one good start undone by the pen and one poor start. And if you are trying to make the claim that Gausman pitched poorly his last few times out he was the victim of awful luck on batted balls as evidenced by FIP values of 1.19 and 2.05 his last two starts of the regular season.

Full division series schedule is out,

Game 1: Sat @ 4pm

Game 2: Sun @ 4pm

Game 3: Tues @ 8pm

Game 4: Wed @ 7pm

Game 5: Fri @ 8pm

Playing the Yankees has benefits! We should do this more often.

No idea, you would think this is hockey with how quiet everyone is.  FWIW I rewatched the slide and he went in really hard - it was a half slide and half falling into Well's shin pads, he was in obvious pain.

if he can swing he should at least be on the bench.

Sending people on a wild goose chase during morning traffic is pretty cruel.

plus it’s a bad precedent to set,  The whole point of baseball is you don’t have to mingle with poor people who can’t afford tickets

if the country club I play at started giving free rounds to commoners, people would riot

When I was living in Vancouver, every time the Jays were in Seattle I'd head down with half a dozen to a dozen buddies (and wives) for the entire series.

AMAZING atmosphere and great area.  I can't even imagine how epic that ballpark would be for a Seattle - Jays playoff game.

Just checked and a lot of tickets available still for the Mariners ALCS. Expensive, but would definitely be a cool experience.
