This is at least the third season in a row with tough schedules to start.   It was especially bad the previous two years due to the Orioles and Rays getting quick starts due to easy opening schedules.

The fact they are doing well this year through it is a good sign so far.  Last year especially it felt like all the high leverage games early in the season really taxed the arms and they paid for it later in the season.

I believe the leverage arms were taxed early last season largely because the club only had two reliable relievers in the early parts of the season. Only Garcia and Green could reliably retire MLB hitters. Romano and Swanson had delayed starts to their seasons due to spring training injury and featured diminished stuff and command. Mayza was also a shell of his former self so the team was missing their 3 of their most important bullpen arms which was an insurmountable hill to climb.

Jomboy proves Vlad didn't leave early on that call in Baltimore. What a terrible call by that umpire.

Yeah just straight up a bad call. I don't think our own video people would have enough time to determine if it's worth burning a challenge here, and given that Jomboy probably spent a decent amount of time on it, seems unlikely it even gets overturned. I understand our own coaching staff being quick to blame Vlad given that the challenge room said it wasn't worth replaying, and his previous history on the basepaths. Just straight up umpire malpractice. Sucks for Vlad who made a rare smart baserunning decision.

You could say that there was no reason for Vlad to cut it so close but that's being overly critical so let me be the only one to indirectly say it by way of this very sentence.

So I guess when the team wins the games it's not so bad having a good defensive team with an actual starting rotation comprised of gritty veterans.

Yeah. People complain about the aesthetics of the current build. But it's not about that. The problem is that the team sucked last year. Nobody who claims to be scandalized by a pitching and defense team will be complaining if they win 90 games

2023 was an example of this team winning but it being a bad product to watch entertainment wise. A winning product should always be top priority but that also needs to be balanced with forecasting how would your playoff lineup compete with the other teams best in the playoffs.

Sticking with 2023, we all knew that team would struggle to score any runs and that's exactly what happened and why we lost.

Take a peek at the GDTs.

We could win 100 games and the World Series and the village idiots will find something to complain about.

This seemed inevitable. Little defensive utility, not fast, and it seemed like the same issues at the plate persisted. If he can't catch up to the fastball and he can't hit lefties there's no room for him on the roster.

When Varsho comes back I'd like to see the following:

  • LF: Roden starts and Straw spells him vs some lefties.
  • 3B: Clement with one of Wagner or Barger, whoever is hitting better, the other gets sent to AAA for everyday ABs.
  • That leaves one more spot and it will truly be a bench spot. Lukes can keep it warm but he's not a great fit as another lefty OF bat. Stefanic isn't on the 40 man but I kind of like the idea of adding him. He's been playing SS in Buffalo.

Is there no corresponding move for Schneider?

I still think Schneider has a chance to find his game again and become a useful guy for a bit. Don't completely rule out a Steve Pearce arc. It's hard to make adjustments in limited playing time at the MLB level though.

I haven't read anything. I guess Lukes could simply be coming back from the paternity list?

That's what I assumed was happening...Barger stays up with the team.

We need Steve Pearce on the team like yesterday.  I'd love to see AA get aggressive and got get us a legit RH bat - even if he's a platoon guy.  We really need a RH bat that murders LHP.  Straw has been great, but we can't expect that type of offensive production moving forward.

And on the flip side, we could lose 100 games and the other village idiots will still defend the front office regardless.

Well we won 91, 92, 89 and 74 games the past 4 seasons and not a single poster wanted the front office back after last year so I'm going to go ahead and rate this post as false

Anything less than wanting to send Ross Atkins to a guillotine gets you labeled a huge supporter around here
