Not passing judgement on this deal. Just stating some facts.

Yimi was elite last year as he started throwing harder. However, age plus throwing harder caught up to him, hence the injuries. Now he is a year older. I would view him as BP depth but I wouldn’t put my eggs all in the basket of Yimi being our 8th inning guy for the majority of the season.

I look at him as our 7th inning guy with Green being our 8th inning guy. Still need a true closer and our bullpen's set. Try to get a lefty reclamation project and hope he sticks.

First instinct was hoping it was false so gut reaction is not liking the deal, mainly due to Jimi coming off injury. Let’s see how they allocate the rest of the available payroll. Also let’s hope first half 2024 Garcia is legit.

Yeah any pitcher coming off an elbow injury is scary as heck. If he's healthy though this is a slam dunk deal. Fingers crossed.

Hard to see non tendering Romano and then giving Yimi this contract as shrewd or anything

Obviously there are medical things we don't know but c'mon

I feel like Yimi only got better as his tenure with the Jays went on so I don't mind extending the partnership another couple of seasons. Projects better than Romano at a similar price point, and I thought he really hit his stride as a dominant bullpen arm earlier this season prior to the elbow barking. Let's hope the elbow holds up, I'm sure they did their due diligence on his medicals. If he's healthy that's a great price point for a good, reliable reliever.

I suspect there's a 95% chance this blows up in Atkins' face. Jimi will blow a handful of leads early in the season, land on the IL and generally provide little to no value. Meanwhile, Romano will save 53 games with an ERA of 2.25.

They must hate Romano's medicals and are fine with Yimi's. If they are right no problems with this but if they are wrong they will have some egg on their face for sure.

Anytime you comment against the front office, the sarcasm blows my phone to shreds. You've made me get 2 new phones in 5 years lol.

I swear this team bids against themselves in Free Agency. Obviously Yimi was really good last year when healthy but his elbow blew up in Seattle and he had an IL stint when he was here.

If he pitches like the first half of last year great. But not really the kind of guy I want for 2 guaranteed years.

Guess will see. They obviously need Bullpen help. They need another 2 guys atleast.

I can definitely see it

Nice! Glad they brought back Yimi and a nice deal as well.

Need two more relievers ideally now: a lefty and a closer. Then I think the BP is good.

Blake Treinen is 40 years old and has thrown 50 innings combined the past 3 seasons. He just got 2 years, 22 million. Seems slightly under market rate for Yimi, elbow issue and all.

I wouldn't have liked this before the off-season, but seeing guys like Conforto and Cobb go for absolutely mind boggling prices has changed my standards a lot. This is pretty solid if he's healthy.

First of all Blake Treinen is 36. And Yimi’s best Season is probably Treinen’s worse lol. Laughable comparison. Blake Treinen has been one of the best relievers in Baseball for the past decade. Injuries or not.

Nah Treinen is under an ever constant risk to miss whole seasons. He even threw up negative WAR his final year in Oakland. He's definitely elite when he's right, but he's rarely right anymore.

Regardless, I'm only point out his deal because you think Yimi getting a paltry 2 year deal is somehow the Jays bidding against themselves.

So this was an exciting start to the off-season for you?

Everyone thinks they didn't bring back Romano because of the medicals. Atkins stated they had no concerns about his health. It's entirely possible they just didn't think he was worth 8 million dollars for 1 year and not bringing him back hand nothing to do with his health.

Yeah I think that Atkins and Co. may have underestimated the kind of guarantee Romano was going to gain in free agency. It's certainly an interesting occurrence that they non tendered Romano after a season lost due to elbow issues and paid the same amount of money to a guy who also missed a bunch of time due to various elbow issues.

I'm dead serious. I think today has been a disaster. I hate the Yimi signing. Everyone around here HATED Yimi until he put up 2-3 good months to start 2024. I expect the probability he pitches like he did to start 2024 is like 6%. I think there's a 80% chance he spends time on the IL with elbow injuries over the next 2 years and I expect inconsistent, middling results. I would guess there's a 60% chance he finishes his contract having given us a 3.94 ERA and 0.7 WAR.

Then we f***ing drop from 5th to 8th in the draft.

Then we add Gimenez, who hits like Goins and we deal away a hitter projected for a 123 wRC+ when we NEED hitting.

At the end of the day - I suspect NONE of this matters at all. The Jays are going to SUCK BALLS in 2025 and for the foreseeable future. Personally - I enjoy watching new young players, so it doesn't bother me much - but my kids won't understand this and may lose interest in the Jays/baseball due to this shitshow. f*** Rogers and their desire to sell corporate tickets to a bunch of rich *******s. Greedy f***ing ****s.

I hate Rogers as much as anyone. But they have shown a lot of willingness to spend money. They just don't really make good decisions with the funs and thats why the Jays are 200 million payroll team with a s*** roster. The least of the Jays concerns is Rogers. As terrible of a company they are to consumers. Bell isn't much better though.
