It's literally meaningless. I'd rather a higher draft pick.

 

I'm sure we all know a higher draft pick position is better, yet, winning with these young guys bodes well too. We have no control of the results, some of us still enjoy the game of baseball, Omar's right, that would be something if they could pull that off. I wouldn't mind watching that, they've been playing well recently. Meh...

Jays now 7 games below .500

 

Would be moral victory to get close to .500 before the season ends.

 

Can they still make the third wildcard?

He's one dimensional in his thinking. Doesn't see what success at the MLB level could do for young players.

Yeah finishing close to .500 means Will Wagner shows he's a good player, Horwitz continues to hit, Vlad continues to ball out, etc. That's likely to be better for the longterm future of the franchise then drafting 6th instead of 11th.

 

And it would bode well for 2025. A year in which the Jays are seemingly going to be aggressive and try and contend, like it or not.

I think right now we have the 5th best odds of landing the #1 pick (Ethan Holliday) - a 10% chance. He's supposed to be better than Jackson. I'm not suggesting I want to see them lose to increase their odds, but that is a tantalizing prospect who may have the ability to change the direction of an organization.

I don’t think we have to worry about the Jays going on a run to .500. The bullpen is complete ass, they’ll lose a lot of winnable games down the stretch for that reason alone. With that said, getting the first pick in a year where there is a potential difference maker (Holliday) would definitely change the complexion of the org. The lottery will end up helping the Jays on that end since they don’t have to out tank anyone to have a shot at it. Would be amazing if the Jays actually succeeded at building a 2025 playoff team and ended up with the #1 pick at the same time. We can dream.

I could see the Jays getting over .500

 

They kept their veteran starters so the rotation of Gausman, Bassitt, Berrios, Francis, Rodriguez is very good compared to any other under .500 team

 

The lineup is decent until you get down to Loperfido and Jimenez.

 

Pen sucks but some of the newer guys don't seem like total stinkers.

But that’s not even the most impressive part of what Guerrero Jr. is doing right now. In fact, his numbers in the second half of the 2024 season are the best of any playerin MLB history since 1901 with over 109 plate appearances, which is how many the slugger has as of Thursday.
...his 1.480 OPS since the All-Star Break is better than any other player, and one of nine seasons, and five players who had an OPS greater than 1.400. The only others were Aaron Judge (2024), Barry Bonds (2001, 2002, 2004), Jeff Bagwell (1994), Ted Williams (1957) and Babe Ruth (1920).

I legitimately can't remember anyone else in all of my time following the team experiencing a hot streak like this one. I started watching in the early 90's so that goes back a long time.

Most total bases by a player in a 25-game span of a season:

90- Guerrero Jr. (July 14-present)

87- Jose Bautista (Apr-May 2011)

85- Edwin Encarnacion (May-June 2014)

Surprised that Delgado isn't up there.

One thing I've always pointed out in the Vlad discussions is that his performances as an 18, 19 and 22 year old were in the 99.99th percentile of all of Major League history in terms of hitting.

 

So now we have another stretch which is in the 99.999th percentile. So the frustration has always been that unlike Pujols say, who was in the 99.99th percentile for 10 years, Vlad switched between months of a 99.99th percentile guy, and a much lower level.

Yeah, especially when he popped 16 bases in that 1 game.
