Well he was an honorable mention by Fangraphs on June 19 but he was 22 in A+. Since then he has been promoted to AA which is a big jump and has continued to rake in over 100 ABs.

Not seeing where they rank him 29th now but the difference between 29th and 12 could be as small as moving someone from 40 to 45. And smacking around AA pitching after a promotion would be enough to move someone up that small bit.

That was Pipeline @ 29, they said he'd be 15 in their midseason update.

According to fangraphs they were still $570k above prior to the KK trade. It hasn't updated yet with the KK trade.

Did we retain on KK deal?

Are you able to provide the BA writeup for McAdoo? I'm curious to see their tools breakdown as they seem to be more forgiving compared to Fangraphs in particular.

12. Charles McAdoo

3B / OF

Ht: 6'2" | Wt: 210 | B-T: R-R

Age: null

BA Grade: 45/High

Track Record: McAdoo enjoyed a productive three-year college career in the Mountain West Conference with San Jose State, even going 2-for-4 with a double against future Pirates No. 1 overall pick Paul Skenes when the righthander was still at Air Force in 2022. The Pirates drafted McAdoo to far less fanfare in 2023 and signed him to a $150,000 bonus in the 13th round. He has exceeded expectations. McAdoo hit .332 with 11 homers for Low-A Bradenton that year, then barnstormed High-A pitching to open 2024, slashing .336/.415/.561 with nine homers for Greensboro before a midseason promotion to Double-A Altoona. McAdoo is a distant cousin of NBA Hall of Famer Bob McAdoo.

Scouting Report: McAdoo greets pitchers with a closed stance and healthy bat waggle. He’s a bit less upright since entering pro ball and has shown more feel for contact and adjustability than perhaps previously expected. So far in 2024, the physically strong McAdoo has shown a good blend of contact ability, pitch recognition and swing decisions to go along with above-average 90th percentile exit velocity and bat speed. Finding a long-term defensive home is still more of an open-ended question. A second baseman in college, McAdoo has played mostly third base so far in 2024. His hands have impressed the Pirates, but he has just an average arm and mobility, leading some to wonder whether he’s better suited for a corner outfield position.

The Future: A productive bat quickly propelled McAdoo to the upper minors and onto the Pirates’ radar. Now, he must sustain his gains away from hitter-friendly Greensboro and solidify his defensive home as he chases the ceiling of a second-division regular.

Scouting Grades: Hitting: 50 | Power: 50 | Speed: 45 | Fielding: 45 | Arm: 45

90th percentile EVs with game power... seems like more than a 50 I dunno

This is what I was gonna say. Seemsnlike a guy with no draft pedigree that just comes out of nowhere, all he does is perform and yes he doesn't get the same FV score as a guy drafted on the top 3 rounds that hasn't performed.

Weird.

The IKF signing was a stroke of genius!

All the haters need to apologize to Ross

Ross still made the signing

It was a good move. Wish he would’ve made more of those

He lucked into IKF having the best year of his career

No way he does this again

So he traded him at the right time at least

Yup. Perfect asset management in regards to signing and shipping him off at the right time, but most here agreed IKF didn’t deserve the 2/15 deal he got.

We lucked out on him catching fire for a month or so in the first half of the season.

End of the day, front office gets a kudos for that one.

It wasn't all luck. IKF was very probably better than his most recent work and the foundational skills of defense and contact never left him.

I think Atkins was due to have someone perform in the 90th percentile outcome. God knows we've had far too many players provide a bottom 5th percentile outcome (Bo's 2024, Nate Pearson, Kirk, etc.).

To be fair - Ross has had several good/great FA signings. That's one of his strengths.

Semien, Ray, Belt, Gausman, Jimi, Kikuchi, 2023 KK, LGJ, Daniel Hudson, Seunghwan Oh, Steve Pearce, David Phelps

IKF had a really similar stretch last season over 4 months so he's done this type of thing before. He just wasn't able to carry these types of results over the final 2 months of the season as his strikeout rate skyrocketed.

Yeah he's actually done a great job in FA in getting value. The problem is its an expensive avenue to acquire players and they have been terrible in developing young talent. This year has really exposed how bad the org. pitching depth has been. The guys they are throwing out there have no business even being in the big leagues.

I think the organization's pitching depth stands to be dramatically better next season given the recent trade deadline and draft acquisitions, at least on the rotation side of the ledger. Hopefully the team can finally find a way to supplement the bullpen from some homegrown players for once vs needing to sign pricey free agents and scouring the waiver wires.

I honestly don't really see it. Coming into this year I think it looked a lot better than it will going into next year. Manoah, Tiedemann, Maroudis, Barriera are all hurt and likely to miss most of next season. The upper level guys that looked to be promising have either been hurt/terrible (Dallas, Cooke, Brock).

So while they did add some talent almost all of the org. pitching prospects have had their value tank this season lol.

Bloss is close to major league ready, and I expect Yesavage to move very quickly through the system as well. Those are both the type of high end depth pieces the team was largely lacking recent seasons.

A good move. I wish he would’ve made more good moves this year. Sadly we didn’t get any bonus points for good/great FA signings from years past this year

Ricky Tiedemann and Yariel Rodriguez were the high end depth pieces this season

Pitchers are just so frustrating. Teams can lineup a f***ton of depth and have it all blow up in their faces. Look at what the Dodgers are going through this year and they're a top FO/franchise in the league. It's crazy to see.

Rodriguez has certainly had some nice moments but unfortunately we've all seen the endless cycle of injury that Tiedemann is caught in. I like that both of Yesavage and Bloss have been steadily building up their workloads while typically avoiding the injury bug.

Really makes you appreciate what the staff was able to do last year

I would say Manoah coming into this year was better than both, same with Tiedemann. Not to mention the rotation is very likely will be worse going into next year.
