Hell yeah. Manoah to AAA to start the season plz, unless he absolutely shoves in ST

Rodriguez sat out the entire 2023 season so he likely won't have much of an innings base to take over as a starter straight away.

Can’t claim I know anything about him but doesn’t seem overly intriguing at the 4/32 estimate.

I don't think that's an unreasonable amount for an intriguing foreign player who comes with some obvious risk. Ha-Seong Kim's contract was 4 years $28M. But yes, he's not Yamamota obviously. He got more than Yuki Matsui and Shota Imanaga only got $53M guaranteed. He's a swingman, with some upside potential to start.

Seems like he is a swingman type and is basically a high end depth starter at worst and really good setup man at best.

40 man roster is full so a DFA is coming to make room.

Could be that useless catcher they just picked up, or someone like Wes Parsons

This is a pretty exciting signing. He could just be a middle reliever or swing-man, but the stuff looks promising. There is youtube video of him from the last WBC where he threw like 8 innings. Also, he pitched 6 innings against Canada in 2021 WBC qualifier and whiffed 11 guys.

Looks like he can spin it and throws 96+

I would honestly be surprised if he gets that much money

Was a pure reliever in 2022 and didn't even pitch professional in 2023

The package (96+ with good spin and other secondaries that might play) is interesting but not 32 million dollars interesting IMO.

Fujinami last year was a 28 year old with better stuff, coming off 107 okay innings in Japan, and he only got $3.25M guaranteed from Oakland...

I am hoping this is closer to that. Something in the low risk, high reward category. Obviously, I don't know how his stuff grades so perhaps he is really good and a multi year deal is in order... I dunno...

So he’s the long man and Mitch White starts

Expect him to be with the Bisons to start the year, working on getting stretched out.

I'd stretch him out in ST in case we need him as the #5 SP to start the year. Ideally White's changes from late last season stick and we're able to roll with him as our #5. Rodriguez could be a good backup option, along with Francis.

These type of players are better to target in trades. Like Mitch White I guess lol. Just not a fan of FA dollars in it but not claiming it’s overly consequential. Sort of like IKF. We’ll see what terms are

Every SP starts fresh every year. For all we know Rodriguez might have been throwing simulated games this past year and bumping his pitch count up to 100.

What’s the alternative? Vince Velazquez? Brad Keller? Plus those guys obviously don’t have options

I’m not going to complain about this move. They’ve done a good job signing pitching

That is certainly one possibility depending on how a certain heavyset starter performs in spring training.

Yeah, exciting to add an arm with a potentially high ceiling like this to an already solid stable of arms.

Can't wait to see what they Jays do with him.

Does he start or relieve to begin?

Will he be in AAA or MLB to begin?

They'll need to take it easy with him for sure with no innings last year.

Just don't get fricken injured in ST FFS

They're the kind of guys who should be developed, but this front office has been unable to do that.

Don't know much about the guy. Just hope this doesn't take any funds away from us being able to improve on our biggest weakness, which is obviously hitting. Let's please start making some move on that front.

I wonder if we might see the Jays move to a 6 day rotation next year (each of the 4 main starters goes every 7th day)? That would mean some weeks might have a 4 man rotation and some might have a 6 man rotation.

Last year with 4 days of rest our starting pitchers put up a 2.72 SO/W, .254 BA, .325 OBP, .421 SLG. On 5 days of rest they put up a 3.50 SO/W, .227 BA, .292 OBP, .381 SLG. That's a pretty substantial difference. Manoah and Rodriguez could both be skipped on weeks with 2 off days or both go on weeks with none.

One would think that Yariel is going to have a big innings restriction this year. He was a reliever in 2022 and didn't pitch in 2023.

If this is a 4 year deal the team is investing a lot into him and they need to manage the asset accordingly.

Sounds like the plan is for him to start so I would start him off in Buffalo and let him build up from there. Perhaps 3 inning starts until he can eventually throw 5 or 6 innings. Target the 2nd half of the season for his MLB debut.

As of now this is probably how I see the depth chart but things could change in a hurry.

#5- Manoah

LR- White

AAA- Francis

AAA and ready by midseason- Yariel and Tiedemann

40/45s who could debut this year- Chad Dallas, Macko, Van Eyk

#5/LR - White and Yariel fight for it

#6 in AAA - Francis

#7 in AAA - Tiedemann

#8 staying at the complex until he apologizes for 2023 and adds 2 mph to his fastball - Manoah

Yeah, this FO hasn't had much success with developing their own pitching, but over the last few years the track record with pitchers they have brought in either via signing or trade is pretty good. Whether Rodriguez turns out to be a SP, RP, or bust remains to be seen, but let's see what the Jays can do with his arsenal.

Jays will have roughly 18-20M under the 2nd tax threshold remaining after this deal and depending on what happens with Vlad in arb. For simplicity sake assuming an even AAV spread on this 4 year deal even though it likely won't be.

Now it's definitely at the point (for those who were in denial before) where they sign whoever they get between Soler/JDM/Joc and call it an offseason.
