Yeah the Santana signing is a strange move for a penny pinching team. Even after moving Naylor they still had some internal options for 1B. Could have just kept Horwitz as well.

I agree, they should've targeted both brothers, although I'm not sure the Guardians are keen on moving Bo.

I would have loved it, but if he wasn't interested in DHing most of the time, then unfortunately he wouldn't be a good fit.

 

I'd imagine heading into his FA year he probably wants to play 1B as well as hit.

Well, that's not up to him, a timeshare at 1st and DH with a little 3B for Vlad sprinkled in would work. Cecconi and pick in the 75 area is peanuts. Would've been nice.

And if I was Naylor, going into FA year with 2800+ innings as a 1B and 0 games as a DH, I would not be on board with it.

 

He does have 1000 innings as an OF, but didn't play any OF last year

Yeah, I was surprised too when I looked.

 

Now that I look further, he played 0 innings in the OF last year 1 inning in 2023, 37 in 2022. So he hasn't played any significant amount of OF since 2021.

 

Pretty much 1B or bust for him.

 

Hopefully, because the Jays were rumored to be in on Naylor, it means they are shopping Vladdy to see what offers they get.

I have no idea who the FO is going to end up getting, which is kinda terrifying after last winter. Players are signing/getting traded elsewhere, and the logical options are starting to shrink.

Yeah geez they were already talking with the Guardians. I wonder if they asked about Naylor as well. Would have been the opportune time.

 

Like I don't mind the Gimenez trade, but this team needs some pop in the lineup and it has been an issue for the last two years. You either have to pay a guy like Teo or Santander or you try to save some money by acquiring a bat with pop via trade, like Naylor or Roberts. Regardless, less options become available as we move deeper into the offseason. Atkins better start moving.

Yeah, when the Birds were talking with them about Gimenez, I'm sure they discussed Naylor, I wasn't aware he's never DH'd, kind of mind-blowing. I'm guessing he was a no on the timeshare if it got that far and was asked. Ah well.
