What the Jays should do now:

 

Completely gut the management, then start the rebuild.

 

Gausman & Berrios would be worth more than usual if traded in this market. Even Bassett should have some positive value without us having to eat some of his contract.

 

Jays could maximize asset acquisition if they started the rebuild now.

 

No way in hell these clowns should be allowed to handle the rebuild though.

Yes, but Rogers isn’t going to allow it. When they miss the playoffs Shapiro will be allowed to walk away gracefully with his contract expiring. Atkins will be fired. And the next guys up will retool.

 

I’m just hoping they don’t inherit a 15/500 Vlad contract.

There is no direction with this team unfortunately. They're stuck in limbo right now.

 

Power has been an issue with this lineup for the last two seasons - instead Atkins double downs on defensive minded players again like Gimenez (who I like and don't mind that trade). But you have to compliment that kind of trade by adding power to other spots in the lineup if they expect to contend.

 

The bullpen is in worse shape than it was last year. They brought back Garcia but need to replace Romano and bring in a reliable high leverage arm, which they haven't yet. Gotta also bring in another solid LHP who can be used in high leverage. Little/Walker aren't those guys. Hope guys like Swanson bounces back and Green can maybe return to being elite.

I'm in full agreement with this. Just hoping Atkins does the right thing in setting up the next regime as best they can.

I was reading about this on the weekend and wondering about players who go to JUCO and then to the NCAA....never saw that as an alternative to the minor leagues. Is there any angle now with the NIL money where players would prefer that v. making jack s*** in the minors? It's going to be interesting to see how this plays out.

I wouldn’t say they’re f***ed, but they absolute cannot just “stand pat” and hope for the best.

 

Either gotta make a couple more SIGNIFICANT additions or start to offload expiring assets.

Braves have been weirdly quiet. They have real needs: corner OF, SS, mid-rotation starter, backend bullpen, and almost an entire bench.

 

Braves just need to get everyone back healthy and they should be alright. They have needs but not glaring needs. Shortstop really the only position that needs a significant upgrade.

 

Are there any decent free agent SS's available? Maybe Kim is the only one I suppose. They weren't ever going to sign Adames.

 

They probably are going to roll with an outfield of Harris in CF, Acuna in RF once he gets back and likely Kelenic/De La Cruz platoon in LF. Acuna might miss time at the beginning of the season, so that's a concern. Not sure they hand out a $100M contract to Teo or Santander for LF.

 

Rotation is fine, especially once Strider comes back. They could use another mid-rotation starter or back-end starter. Don't see them spending $75M over 3 years on an arm like Pivetta. They likely could bring back Morton on a one-year deal or maybe they sign a vet like Scherzer or Verlander. Bullpen could use another high leverage arm, but they have a solid group still with Iglesias, Jimenez, Johnson, Bummer and Lee.

 

Yeah they need to upgrade their bench but I'm sure they'll fill in those pieces closer to ST.

 

Otherwise, not much really needs to be done. They're already a team that can contend for the NL East with the core they have. Just need to add some missing pieces.

Michael Lorenzen wants to be a 2-way player.

 

I never even knew he could hit but I went and looked and he had a .710 OPS as a hitter prior to the universal DH.

 

He's probably not good enough at either hitting or pitching to mess around with it and get him 2-way player status.
