Brownie19 Old-Timey Member Posted January 24, 2024 Posted January 24, 2024 Yeah - I'm curious now too. I mean, don't teams typically have most of their 40 man rosters full? Constantly grabbing players and then dropping them again when better players become available? I'll assume this situation is somewhat unusual? Is it one of the reasons why the FA season has been so slow this year?
Jimcanuck Old-Timey Member Posted January 24, 2024 Posted January 24, 2024 Can you explain the "2020 led roster crunch" part? I'm gonna guess it relates to the loss of a prospect development year, creating a bit of a prospect backlog.
John_Havok Old-Timey Member Posted January 24, 2024 Author Posted January 24, 2024 I'm gonna guess it relates to the loss of a prospect development year, creating a bit of a prospect backlog. Might also be related to the minor league contraction that took place. Granted those teams were all rookie level or lower but that could have started a ripple effect.
Laika Community Moderator Posted January 24, 2024 Posted January 24, 2024 I'm gonna guess it relates to the loss of a prospect development year, creating a bit of a prospect backlog. But 2020 was also a tiny draft
Jimcanuck Old-Timey Member Posted January 24, 2024 Posted January 24, 2024 But 2020 was also a tiny draft Quite a few 2019 prep guys still hanging around in MiLB that would be cut or graduated if not for the loss of 2020.
wamco Verified Member Posted January 24, 2024 Posted January 24, 2024 Despite being “full” I’m sure all teams have a few players at the end of the roster that they will not cry over losing. Or is it time to expand? Join the bandwagon and get a team in Vegas.

Carlos Danger Old-Timey Member Posted January 25, 2024 Posted January 25, 2024 Well.. If Joc goes to the Diamondbacks as it appears, that is one less landing spot for a couple of other guys like JD Martinez to name one.
glory Old-Timey Member Posted January 25, 2024 Posted January 25, 2024 If the Soler market was down to the Jays and D-Backs like rumored, then this clears things up a bit.
Laika Community Moderator Posted January 25, 2024 Posted January 25, 2024 If the Soler market was down to the Jays and D-Backs like rumored, then this clears things up a bit. lol he looks so fat in this picture
Carlos Danger Old-Timey Member Posted January 25, 2024 Posted January 25, 2024 If the Soler market was down to the Jays and D-Backs like rumored, then this clears things up a bit. JD Martinez was also predicted to land in Arizona.. So double our chances between him a Soler...
Laika Community Moderator Posted January 25, 2024 Posted January 25, 2024 f*** you joc pederson i didn't want you anyway
Laika Community Moderator Posted January 25, 2024 Posted January 25, 2024 "Orioles Have Shown Interest In Michael Lorenzen" lmao this will be their big addition
wilko Old-Timey Member Posted January 25, 2024 Posted January 25, 2024 If the Soler market was down to the Jays and D-Backs like rumored, then this clears things up a bit. It will be interesting to see what he gets if this is true.. Also that would mean Soler to the Jays is more realistic.
BTS Community Moderator Posted January 25, 2024 Posted January 25, 2024 "Orioles Have Shown Interest In Michael Lorenzen" lmao this will be their big addition The most Orioles signing ever. He'll give them 150 innings of 4.8 ERA ball then get nuked in an elimination game in the playoffs.
z3r0s Old-Timey Member Posted January 25, 2024 Posted January 25, 2024 I haven't really paid attention to Joc recently, but is that pic really his new physique? Oof.
glory Old-Timey Member Posted January 25, 2024 Posted January 25, 2024 It will be interesting to see what he gets if this is true.. Also that would mean Soler to the Jays is more realistic. I also wonder what this does to Soler's asking price. There is more supply than demand in the DH market, and now one of Soler's biggest suitors (allegedly) has moved on. My guess is that Soler was holding out for an extra guaranteed year from what was being offered to him. Not sure he has that leverage anymore, but who knows.
connorp Old-Timey Member Posted January 25, 2024 Posted January 25, 2024 "Orioles Have Shown Interest In Michael Lorenzen" lmao this will be their big addition I was thinking that might be Holliday, or some of the other potential high impact talent coming.

Terminator Old-Timey Member Posted January 25, 2024 Posted January 25, 2024 I haven't really paid attention to Joc recently, but is that pic really his new physique? Oof. It's crazy. The other day I posted a clip of him in high school. He and Davante Adams were both WRs on the same team and Joc Pederson was actually WR1. These guys specialize and their training changes their bodies. In baseball, this is partially due to neglect as well.
Carlos Danger Old-Timey Member Posted January 25, 2024 Posted January 25, 2024 "Orioles Have Shown Interest In Michael Lorenzen" lmao this will be their big addition Yet so far we are going to improve with what we had last year "performing better", and internal talent (not in the same league as the O's internal options). When we win the division we can LOL the Orioles.

connorp Old-Timey Member Posted January 25, 2024 Posted January 25, 2024 Even Gibby said tell your FO to get you some players. Our manager is probably just happy to have his job and not be in the minors.

Pendleton Old-Timey Member Posted January 25, 2024 Posted January 25, 2024 Someone slap together a lineup and rotation of remaining FA's. Is it a contending club? Pitcher and catcher workouts start in less than three weeks, it's weird how many players still don't know where they are living in April.
Terminator Old-Timey Member Posted January 25, 2024 Posted January 25, 2024 I wouldn't say this is a 100% done deal just yet but this guy is somewhat credible and lots of other reports are that it was close. Takes a DH off the board but also takes probably our main competitor out of the DH market so overall this is a good thing I would think. It would have been bad if some team that was unexpected to sign a DH jumped in and got him.
Jimcanuck Old-Timey Member Posted January 25, 2024 Posted January 25, 2024 Shatkins is basically playing the supply glut market.
