dineke Old-Timey Member Posted September 28, 2023 Posted September 28, 2023 It's ok. Our playoff chances have barely moved. Win tomorrow against Luke Weaver and we are still golden. The playoffs remain easy to make. Just saving runs for the playoffs. Smart.
John_Havok Old-Timey Member Posted September 28, 2023 Posted September 28, 2023 This is upsetting, can't lie I really hoped we'd win 1 of these last 2 Really makes beating Glasnow a few days ago that much bigger.

DigitalRock Old-Timey Member Posted September 28, 2023 Posted September 28, 2023 Matt Chapman is batting .130 in his last 7 games .167 in his last 15 games .190 in his last 30 games He’s slugging .174, .292, 295 in those stretches. Since August 1st he’s batting .183 with a 52 wrc+ Since May 1st he’s hitting .205 No kind of defence makes The big bats most of the season have not delivered
Stangstag Old-Timey Member Posted September 28, 2023 Posted September 28, 2023 Really makes beating Glasnow a few days ago that much bigger. Securing the sweep would’ve been nice. f***ing Romano. Just need to go 2-2 to secure a spot now. Doable, but you never know with these guys.
BigCecil Old-Timey Member Posted September 28, 2023 Posted September 28, 2023 It happens. Couple of weeks ago the A's completely shut down the Astros for the first two games of their series. Houston is 5th in runs/game. We are 16th. For the season. Yes it happens. Anomalous series. But our offensive production for the season is not Houston’s. Whatever. We will get in and it’s going to be what it’s going to be at this point. Fingers crossed.
Jonn Old-Timey Member Posted September 28, 2023 Posted September 28, 2023 Careful what you wish for. Twins over the Rays. Yea I wish for that.
jaysthebest Verified Member Posted September 28, 2023 Posted September 28, 2023 I don't know why many of you guys prefer the Twins over the Rays, but the Twins have great starting pitchers like the Yankees. Our batters are going to be shut down by Sonny Gray.

Key22 Verified Member Posted September 28, 2023 Posted September 28, 2023 Thanks to Belt for breaking up Cole's perfect game.
John_Havok Old-Timey Member Posted September 28, 2023 Posted September 28, 2023 And thanks to Houston for beating Seattle. Game got a bit heated when Neris struck out Julio, then started walking towards him and yelling at him for some reason. No punches thrown but everyone was on the field. Neris was being weird
Masterbather Verified Member Posted September 28, 2023 Posted September 28, 2023 So the likeliest path to disaster would be if Seattle takes three of four, and Houston takes at least 2 of 3, we then have to split the next four or we're toast. The Seattle one is interesting, it's difficult on the surface, but it becomes more possible if Texas clinches early in the series. The Houston one is very possible given that Arizona should clinch soon. We should have the clear starting pitching advantage in two of our four games, Tampa is also about to officially lose touch of the East which should benefit us but Tampa is always annoying.

If he was hitting .240/.340/.450 with 30 HR and 80-90 RBI and a 5 WAR season, likely gets a 5 year deal over $100M.
Eat My Shatkins Verified Member Posted September 28, 2023 Posted September 28, 2023 Haha, with the way this season has gone these two losses were totally predictable. No way would they continue to rattle off victories and clinch this early. Still in good shape though, especially if they can salvage this last game vs the Yankees. Texas vs Mariners for 4 games now....go Rangers. Magic number is 3 now, correct?

Whats shocking is Chappy is still 3rd on the Jays in WAR @ 3.3 Bo is at 3.4 and Gausman will finish at 5.3 unless we have to throw him again to get in.
deanmike Verified Member Posted September 28, 2023 Posted September 28, 2023 Are we sure the Jays aren't just stealth tanking for the 6 seed? I seriously doubt 1 series win at the Trop changes the organization's entire outlook on how cursed that stadium is for them. I am like 95-99% sure that the Jays still prefer the Twins over a series at the f***in Trop.
glory Old-Timey Member Posted September 28, 2023 Posted September 28, 2023 Chapman since May 1 has a 82 wRC+ and 1.2 WAR in 454 PA. He had an incredible April (2.0 WAR in April alone) but he’s been s*** ever since. At this point you’re hoping he rejects the QO. Thankfully Boras is his agent so he will likely reject it regardless.

No one mashes them. That said, please give me the Twins. I want to get out of the first round.

Chapman had a really nice month of July as well. It would be nice to at least see that version of Chapman vs the guy with the noodle bat who's making mistakes defensively as well.
Stangstag Old-Timey Member Posted September 28, 2023 Posted September 28, 2023 Might take the 1 year deal hoping to bounce back and get a bigger contract? Cody Bollinger is with Boras, I'm sure he had some multi year deals. Chapman is still an above average bat for the year. Bellinger was terrible 2 years in a row. Not in the same realm. Chapman will at least get 4/80 offers from several teams

There will be MLB scouts in every front office telling the suits that Matt Chapman can't hit anymore and they should not sign him to a big deal.

And a handful of other scouts will say he’s an adjustment away from returning to the 120wRC+ 30hr bat he used to be. And that could very well be true.

Even if Boras only thinks he can get Chapman 4/60 he'd still decline a QO.

If I was running Toronto I don't know if I would even be playing him right now. Since August 1st: Chapman 48 wRC+, -0.2 WAR Whit 51 wRC+, -0.4 WAR Bo 63 wRC+. -0.1 WAR
