Given your hatred of Cavan Biggio I'm almost surprised at your optimism on Schneider. They basically have super similar batting profiles and even their usage potential as utility players. Launch angle guys with excellent chase rates who basically entirely rely on those two things.

Not really the same. Biggio stands up there and tries to draw walks while watching heaters down the middle and striking out. Schneider is at least hacking up there.

Its a lot closer than you probably assume at face value. Schneider doesn't swing that much more than Biggio does.

Yeah they are definitely similar but Schneider was doing fine up until 1 month ago. It could just be a slump and he projects pretty well and Biggio doesn't so there is a difference between the two.

If Schneider starts sucking again next year then they can simply option him and then cut him lose when he's out of options. Biggio was ass for 4 years in a row and kept getting tendered contracts.

Chase rate

Biggio 18.2%

Schneider 22.7%

Yeah Bregman gets a lot of hate here. I think his personality subconsciously rubs people the wrong way but it's mostly because everyone assumes he's going to get some monster deal. Matt Chapman was projected to get 5 years, 120 mil and ended up getting 3 years, 54 mil. Need to monitor Bregman closely because he'd be a great add on the right deal. Same with Chapman.

If Bregman signs a Chapman-like deal in the offseason and it isn't with us, I will be f***ing pissed.

There was a little fantasy-related blurb on Francis lately on Fangraphs. It had some nifty charts to but you'll have to click the link for those: https://fantasy.fangraphs.com/bid-kid-adds-week-20/

Looks like he's changed his pitch mix quite a bit.

Bowden Francis (8):

I missed the boat on Francis and his changes. First, he quit throwing an ineffective curve (8% Swstr%, 38% GB%) and increased the usage of his splitter (10% SwStr%, 63% GB%) and slider (19% SwStr%).

Additionally, he added a sinker (9% SwStr%) but its shape characteristics are lacking.

There is a combination that will work for Francis and he’s getting closer to it.

Didn't really pay attention to this until it was posted here. His new splitter (and sinker) are on the same vertical plane as his 4 seamer - adding some swing and miss to his pitch arsenal.

Everyone always gushed about his curveball but it seemed so much different than his other pitches so it was probably easy to spot and hammer. Now he can use it as a show me pitch once in a while to throw off their timing or to try and steal a strike.

Yeah, it really played well off the high fastball since his curve doesn't really have a massive hump out of his hand, there is a little one, but when the high heat is effective and the splitter is being thrown for strikes, that's 3 pitches that tunnel pretty well off each other.

Hitters have to wait that extra split second to rule out the curve and split, late on the non-elite heat.

Biggio had at the exact same age mind you, the better first two years of performance without a doubt. 4 WAR in 160 games with pretty similar power numbers. Most people were pretty high on him.

Schneider's approach has fallen apart earlier than that, and he's basically performing exactly like Biggio in 2022. However much you hate Biggio's approach they're coming to the exact same results he had in 2022 with practically identical numbers across their savant pages.

Davis Schneider probably would hit 40 homeruns with the 2019 ball.

I wish my Apple TV free trial was for 4 months instead of 3.

I think I would rather bathe in shards of glass over paying for Apple TV.

They didn't even have lights until August 1988....up until then - every game was a day game.

Interestingly enough, P.K. Wrigley, owner of the Cubs, had decided to join his fellow team owners in installing lights at his ballpark. Wrigley Field was going to be lighted artificially in 1942, and Wrigley had gone so far as to have blueprints drawn up and steel ordered. But as the war ramped up, they cancelled the order so the steel could be used by the military.

I actually did know that one.

Kinda crazy to think just 50 years ago the only way to follow your team was likely listening to the radio during work. Dark times

I spent a summer listening to the Jays broadcast with Tom Cheek and Jerry Howarth and let me tell you this. It was not dark times. Those games were amazingly well done.

Bright times actually. They were day games.

Some of the shows are good (See in my opinion was phenomenal), but the ball coverage is not.

"back in the day" it seemed like everybody tuned in to hear Tom and Jerry. I don't know too many who listen to the radio broadcast these days. Less choices back then i guess.

I wouldn't, but I still don't want to pay for f***ing Apple TV.

I won't pay for anything... Except for Amazon Video... But only because I'm actually paying for Prime and they just happen to throw Video in for free. Otherwise, IPTV.
