Would that allow Vlad to impart more backspin on his batted balls? I think the primary issue is likely swing path related with hitting on the top of the baseball a tad too much.

Something like that. His statcast page is essentially entirely red except for his Lauch Angle Sweet Spot% which is a batted ball between 8 and 32 degrees. He’s 11th percentile

If you could get him to 50th percentile he’s like Yordan Alvarez

His at bats and approach are terrible though. Constantly watching 0-0 or 2-0 meatballs, then swings at garbage off the plate.

Its part mental, part swing. And all kinds of f***ed up

That he hits so well with such an awful approach just shows you the talent.

Vlad hits the ball as hard Aaron Judge but strikes out half as much **. The number of hard hit balls he puts in play is generational. Just at the wrong angles.

** you could argue that striking out half as much as Aaron Judge is not a good thing because he is swinging at too many pitches he can't get in the air.

Right but that “tweak” is probably getting a lobotomy or something.

sadly the tweak might be a different logo on the uniform

Been testing out some of my awful nicknames that you guys always really like.

No Schneider, Orelvis or Clement in the lineup tonight.

Why the hell not. Clement's been great the past while.

Only after he's been sitting for a few days. Then he will get a start and his timing will be so off. I think I would have brought up Kasevich from AA since Jimenez is injured.

baserunning +1 (helmet stays on)

hitting +1 (less stuff waving in his eyes and distracting him)

So they don't want to ride the hot hand (Clement), play the best hitting prospect in the org (Orelvis), or play the best player on the team since Aug 1 of last season (DS who has a 3.1 WAR since then, Varsho at 3.2 so close enough, but DS clearly with the highest wRC+ over that span). All so Springer, KK, and Turner can be in the lineup. At least Turner is heating up, so I get that, but no reason for KK or Springer to be in the lineup, and could have easily put Clement at short over IKF for a game.

Ed Rogers is the only one who can save us at this point (replacing Shatkins), and that's a terrifying reality.

I hate this team so much

Everything about this team. Other than the innocent youngsters - the Buffalo crew.

How did teams survive when they didn’t have swing plane vs VAA analysis

The Jays have only made the playoffs 4 times in 30 years (or 5 if you want to count 2020 when like 25 teams made it in), so as Jays fans we have to appreciate any playoff appearances we can get, but this team isn't it and this front office if it gets to put any more of their fingerprints on this organization is going to dig a hole much deeper than they already have. I'm ok with 2024 going to s*** if it means real change happens afterwards. If that means no 82 win WC3 berth this year, then I'm sure we will get over it. I'm with you man, I legit hate everything about this team except the Buffalo crew who hopefully keep listening to Hague rather than the alternatives.

Abort this season tomorrow. Sell anyone with two or less years left if the right deal comes along. Limping to the finish line to miss the WC by like 1.5 games feels like an almost certainty if they “go for it” this year

That's what makes this so frustrating. The guys making the decisions have 1-2 years left on their deals (Shapiro and Atkins respectively). They have no incentive to do anything except go for it in 2025. And if by some chance the FO is smart enough to start trading away some bigger pieces (Bo, etc), that means we'd have to trust Atkins to trade veterans for prospects, which is the biggest weakness he has (player development in general). There's no right answer and nothing to root for that has any tangible benefit to the fans other than hoping it only takes 81 wins to get the 3rd WC and hoping the Jays offense can hit the best pitching staff in the league (Seattle) in a wild card round.

John Schneider can make things a bit more interesting for us by playing the Buffalo crew and just living with the consequences, but that's not how they want to operate. Sadly it only gets worse as Votto is close to coming back, and JS probably salivating at the thought of putting him into the lineup.

The only remaining hope is the Rogers Board of Directors.

There is a clear conflict of interest between Atkins/Shapiro and the organization generally. Their best interests do not align.

The BOD needs the gumption to recognize that and act on it.

Extend Atkins/Shapiro for the next decade so incentives are aligned!

Well he's tried everything else. I wonder if Uncle Wilton told him to cut it?

Out of the other side of his mouth John Schneider doesn't seem to mind the matchup of George Springer against Bello! Your Blue Jays manager folks.

JS - How's Vlad's swing plane looking against this guy? Not that we would ever sit him, just wondering what to expect.

RA- Let me call the data guys... just a second.

Data guy - Vlad will hit this guy good. We expect a couple of hard 110 mph liners for outs, a deep fly for an out, and maybe a single off the wall. 1/4.

JS- What about tomorrow?

Data guy - Vlad's swing plane doesn't match as good. We expect a few 110 mph ground balls, likely for double plays. 0/4 with 5 or 6 outs produced.

JS - Nice. So Vlad will hit 6 balls at 110 mph and produce 10 outs this weekend. Great stuff. Will be thrilling for fans to see all those missiles. Got to have something to cheer about with Springer and KK washed up.
