max silver Old-Timey Member Posted June 1, 2024 Posted June 1, 2024 Oof... That's grim news. If I recall correctly Romano already had a cortisone shot in his elbow earlier this season.

Carlos Danger Old-Timey Member Posted June 1, 2024 Posted June 1, 2024 Who was the projected replacement for Hicks?
max silver Old-Timey Member Posted June 1, 2024 Posted June 1, 2024 Who was the projected replacement for Hicks? Hicks was a post trade deadline bullpen reinforcement. It remains to be seen if the team ends up acquiring a similar leverage reliever at the deadline or not.

I don't see who/how they replaced his role/capabilities in the off season or since. Hicks gave you essentially 4 guys who could be setup or closers. In reality Swanson never excelled at the closer role and Yimy prior this year had a so so record as closer. If you look at a series of close games from the 7th inning to 9. We need that Hicks type pitcher who can slot into set up or closer. Especially after Romano goes back to back etc, even prior to him going on the IL. We did not do an adequate job of replacing that role. Mayza, Cabrera, Pearson, Richards etc are not that role.

Joltin Joe Verified Member Posted June 2, 2024 Posted June 2, 2024 Kikuchi and Garcia for sure. Would have to consider pretty much everybody - Gausman, Jansen, Romano, Bichette Like to restock the farm and remove 50 million or so in salary for next off season.
Key22 Verified Member Posted June 2, 2024 Posted June 2, 2024 These guys aren't great but they do ask a question as to why the Jays keep Biggio in the line-up when he is just so so SOOOOO bad. He's been given ample opportunities and they show some in-depth numbers on his hitting and he is truly abysmal.
Laika Community Moderator Posted June 2, 2024 Posted June 2, 2024 Vlad is playing third base today lol
John_Havok Old-Timey Member Posted June 2, 2024 Posted June 2, 2024 Vlad is playing third base today lol With IKF at 2b and Turner at 1b This has to fall in the "just to do something different" file because it's objectively pretty dumb.

Sorrow Verified Member Posted June 2, 2024 Posted June 2, 2024 If Vladdy can even play a semi passable 3rd I think we see a Horwitz call up and a Biggio option.
hanton Old-Timey Member Posted June 2, 2024 Posted June 2, 2024 If Vladdy can even play a semi passable 3rd I think we see a Horwitz call up and a Biggio option. Vlady at 3B always made sense - not sure why they gave up on it. ("because he's fat and sucks at 1B" yea whatever)
Carlos Danger Old-Timey Member Posted June 2, 2024 Posted June 2, 2024 If Vladdy can even play a semi passable 3rd I think we see a Horwitz call up and a Biggio option. Yea, this has to be to be able to get a Bison in the lineup. I am secretly hoping also showcasing for trade

hanton Old-Timey Member Posted June 2, 2024 Posted June 2, 2024 Well yeah, he does at 3rd. I bet Turner is better. A Horwitz coup sounds probable. I bet you not, Vlady's arm alone makes him the better option at 3B. I wonder if he's been getting reps there?
Carlos Danger Old-Timey Member Posted June 2, 2024 Posted June 2, 2024 If I were the Pirates I would bunt the s*** out of the ball with fast RHH until Vladdy can prove he can throw me out.

Stangstag Old-Timey Member Posted June 2, 2024 Posted June 2, 2024 f*** it, as long as he’s not an absolute butcher just let Vlad play 3B half the games. Don’t really need to worry about it affecting his bat
Stangstag Old-Timey Member Posted June 2, 2024 Posted June 2, 2024 I bet you not, Vlady's arm alone makes him the better option at 3B. I wonder if he's been getting reps there? He’s never really stopped talking reps at 3rd, has always expressed a desire to play there again

Carlos Danger Old-Timey Member Posted June 2, 2024 Posted June 2, 2024 He does fine nabbing grounders/popups at 1B and his arm is VERY strong Will all come down to throwing accuracy I am more referring to Vlad set up deep at 3b and they drop a bunt down the third base line and he has to charge it, bare hand it and throw on the run.

Sure, something like that could be a tough play for him vs a Donaldson or Chapman we're used to having. We'll see.
Krylian Old-Timey Member Posted June 2, 2024 Posted June 2, 2024 Odds that Vladdy makes at least 1 error at 3B today?
Jays24 Old-Timey Member Posted June 2, 2024 Posted June 2, 2024 I said this in spring training that Vladdy should have gotten reps at 3B during then. That is supposed to be the time you try different things because you never know what happens. Seems like we're at the "never know what happens" stage with this team. I've also said that if Bo gets to suck at SS for this long, it's only fair for Vladdy to get a shot to suck suck there too lol.
glory Old-Timey Member Posted June 2, 2024 Posted June 2, 2024 I doubt this is more than a 1 game thing, unless he looks like Scott Rolen defensively today. With that said, with the way the season has gone and looks like it will go in the next couple of weeks, why not? Just run with it going forward. It's not like they have a great 3B option anywhere in the org.
