Yeah I though for sure it would be native/indigenous related. I guess we gotta remember Nike is an American company and probably don't even understand Canadian history, let alone care.

They go with these safe designs with boring colours that are guaranteed to sell to the dudebros.

To be fair, reconciliation of the atrocities to native/indigenous people is a country wide thing. I'm not sure that is appropriate for a City Connect theme. Colorado put the Rockies on their chest, Houston did a space theme, Detroit did Motor City.........we put the CN Tower - such a shock.

Breakdown of Bo's swing and potential issues this year

A lot of people were thinking that the City Connects would have purple because the players have been wearing a lot of purple accessories this year.

Then the team releases this teaser and we also see purple.

Maybe the "leak" of the hat and jersey that we've seen isn't actually it.

There’s no way the jersey and hat aren’t legit. IDK why they’re doing all the purple s*** in promos just to troll people

The CN tower doesn't even look quite right. If it didn't say Toronto I'm not even sure I'd think that it's the Toronto skyline. But yea all the city connects are terrible so this is pretty much on par with what I expected.

What makes you so certain?

Because it matches the leaked hat from last week, and what else would it be? Some photoshopped jersey?? Nah, this is likely the real thing.

for sure - I agree.

Yeah that makes sense. That said, the source for some of this is stuff being sold in Mexico and I've seen all sorts of whacky unlicensed s*** being sold there.

Even so, the purple is probably wishful thinking because other teasers seem to invoke exactly what has been leaked:

So who will buy the marketing waste of a last place team? Send a message and ignore it.

I pre-ordered 50 hats and 50 jersey's. I'm going to sit on them for 10-15 years and sell them.

City Connect leak?

I like the design but the colour's just don't pop on the front. I like the sleeves with the red and blue, but the dark blue city skyline on black with like faded orange lettering just doesn't stand out enough. Should have used the same red from the sleeves and hat on the lettering, and given the skyline more detail with a brighter colour. Any more than 5 feet away it's just a blue smudge

Honestly, the more I look at the jersey, the more I think it's a fake. There's just so much wrong with it that it's hard to believe it's a real jersey.

- The CN Tower looks wonky. Actually, the entire Toronto skyline looks wonky. Like if you were to ask an AI program to come up with a graphic. And would the Blue Jays really release a jersey where the stadium they play in is obscured? Also, the graphic is way too high up on the jersey.

-The graphic also looks very flat. The spaces in the letters don't even show the background behind them, it's just solid black (or dark navy).

- The yellow Nike swoosh is also at odds with the jersey's colour scheme. Speaking of,

- The jersey doesn't even match the shade of the hat. And, as noted by others in this thread, it doesn't seem to be matching the colour scheme of the videos we've been seeing.

Overall, the Blue Jays have been consistent with their brand since they changed to the current logo. In terms of quality and design, this would be a huge downgrade if it were real.

The counterpoint is - look at all the other City Connect jerseys

I think there's a good chance it's not the real city connect. The source for some of this stuff is apparently that it's being sold in Mexico? I see all sorts of whacky unlicensed crap being sold in Mexico all the time.

But Laika's counterpoint is effective, all the other city connects suck and the leaks are very on brand in that sense.

None of them look this bad, though.

According to Blake Murphy, he spoke with someone in the know about them, and was told this was not the real jersey, so take that for what it's worth.

The Jays don’t design this, Nike can basically do whatever they want.

Im like 99% sure its real. Would be extremely surprised if it turns out to be fake. I think the hat is also black, just the lighting in each picture doesn’t match so the shades look different.

I’ll be pleasantly surprised if this is actually fake.

We will find out for sure by the end of the week!

Have you even looked at other teams? The "leaked" Jays jerseys are far from the worst out there.

Most of the fans complaining about the design, that its "too ugly" and "doesn't match the org branding" probably don't watch much baseball besides the Jays and don't actually know what the city connects are and that 50% of them are garbage.

Is that why people have likened this supposed jersey to something you'd find in a gas station? In terms of design, this is the messiest jersey of the lot, and it's not even close.

There's also an interesting tidbit about the leak: The person who leaked it is the same guy who designed this jersey:

There's speculation that he purposefully faked it as a way of drumming up interest in his own designs. Like, "Man, what an ugly jersey, why couldn't they go with something like that Indigenous jersey?".

The initial leak was attributed to someone going by "paintsbyparkin", and Kory Parkin was one of the designers of that jersey. Incidentally, both him and his partner sell their own jerseys and merchandise:

I freaking hope so because those things are absolutely brutal. They would win the worst city connect jersey. A 1/10 for spelling Toronto right and that’s about it

Im not sure if I believe that. We’ll see soon enou

Yep. I dont think the leaked hat matched the leaked jersey so in that regard 1 of them is probably fake at least
