Eat My Shatkins Verified Member Posted April 30, 2024 Posted April 30, 2024 Manoah is shoving tonight so far. 4 IP, 7 Ks, 1 hit, 1 walk, 0 runs 57 pitches 39 strikes
Terminator Old-Timey Member Posted April 30, 2024 Posted April 30, 2024 Holy s*** Manoah is going toe to toe with Paul Skenes right now. 7 Ks and 1 walk through 4 scoreless innings. He's ready.
Masterbather Verified Member Posted April 30, 2024 Posted April 30, 2024 He looks like he lost some more since ST. I was wrong. On Manoah and Vladdy. They need to get fat again, as fat as they were during their MVP and Cy Young seasons. It's our only hope now.
Terminator Old-Timey Member Posted April 30, 2024 Posted April 30, 2024 Manoah has 10 Ks and 0 ER through 5 innings now. Just 2 walks and 1 hit. Lukes is 3-3 with a 2B off Skenes.
Eat My Shatkins Verified Member Posted April 30, 2024 Posted April 30, 2024 Manoah gave up a dinger in the 6th, but two more K's 6 P 12 K's 2 walks 2 hits 1 run 92 pitches, 62 strikes. I'm only following on the gameday, slider is 82 MPH, 4 seam 93-95 MPH and tons of swing and miss. (obviously)

He averaged 94.2 MPH on the heater and induced a 57% whiff rate on 13 of 23 sliders. He threw 62 of 92 pitches in the strike zone as well.

Francis isn't a starter. Just bring Alek up and let's see what he's got.
Terminator Old-Timey Member Posted April 30, 2024 Posted April 30, 2024 Cy Manoah is back and the Jays rotation is going to be STACKED
HomeRunHomer Verified Member Posted April 30, 2024 Posted April 30, 2024 I think his rehab stint ends in a week when they would either have to bring him up or option him. So maybe he gets one more AAA start before they bring him up.

If he has a second solid start, maybe I'll start to buy it but he was a lost cause practically all of last season and has looked terrible until suddenly he has this start.

G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted May 1, 2024 Posted May 1, 2024 I'd LOVE to see him do it again and actually make them feel good about bringing him up
BigCecil Old-Timey Member Posted May 1, 2024 Posted May 1, 2024 I'd LOVE to see him do it again and actually make them feel good about bringing him up Ya, we need Manoah. Francis, Yariel, Green IL. Pitching staff ends the month 28th in fWAR. 21st in ERA and 27th in FIP. 25th K/9. 18th xFIP. Great D can only do much. Man, our offence really needs to get going.
MikeM3 Verified Member Posted May 1, 2024 Posted May 1, 2024 Way too much reverence being paid to Springer Bo and Vlad. None are even close to Corbin Carroll and that guy got moved to 8th. Right now the top of the lineup should have Varsho Babe and Danny sprinkled in it. Keep Vlad 4th if you want. Springer and Bo can drop
Terminator Old-Timey Member Posted May 1, 2024 Posted May 1, 2024 One thing about the offense that isn't getting mentioned is how depressed the offensive environment is right now. Jays have a .674 OPS and that's the 4th worst April in franchise history. But it's still good for a 98 wRC+.

I've gone to 5-6 games at RC so far and the ball just isn't carrying.

I've done quite well on over totals so far this year which means the bookies are overcompensating with their models. In what universe does Boston give up an average of 3.5 runs per game for a sustained period of time?

Yes I believe the April effect is a real thing but I think this April has been especially harsh on offense. Haven't seen any official numbers on that or anything but I have heard it mentioned.

I bet the Stuff+ we have faced on the season is well above average. May's schedule looks far easier. 5 off days (compared to 3 in April) and 6 games against the White Sox. I bet the offense starts to look a lot better this month.
Jays24 Old-Timey Member Posted May 1, 2024 Posted May 1, 2024 With the multiple days off, I don't think the Jays need a 5th starter but guessing when they do, Manoah will be the guy to do it.
Jays24 Old-Timey Member Posted May 1, 2024 Posted May 1, 2024 Has there been any word on Votto or did stepping on a damn bat end his career? I swear some of the injuries baseball suffer are ridiculous.

If he has a second solid start, maybe I'll start to buy it but he was a lost cause practically all of last season and has looked terrible until suddenly he has this start. This is 2 out of 3 solid starts for Alek. In his first AAA start it sounds as though he was largely BABIP'ed to death as his FIP was solid at 2.19. His second AAA start was pretty good with 2 ER over 5.2 innings of work and he allowed no walks. The 3rd start was the disaster where he had no command and walked a ton of hitters and garnered a lot of solid contact against, and that was followed up by the gem yesterday. All told in the 3 starts where he appeared to be commanding his pitches and working in the strike zone he walked only 3 batters in a combined 14.2 innings so it appears as though his strike throwing ability and command are improving a lot over time.
Brownie19 Old-Timey Member Posted May 1, 2024 Posted May 1, 2024 An element of our s***** offense that nobody talks about is base running. Turner and Kirk playing a lot to start the year obviously drag it down, but other than that, we should have a solid base running team. We're currently 4th worst in baseball. It's not acceptable. I thought changing up the 3rd base coach would help, but it hasn't. Pretty sad unfortunately.
