Anyone check out the new videos just released for phase 2 of the Renovations. Super swanky! Seats behind the plate and dugouts look like they will no longer be affordable to the average fan.

Mark Shapiro has such a brilliant business mind.

These are kind of similar in some other ballparks across the US, where they make seats around home plate and the dugouts premium seating areas closed off from other parts. Like in San Fran, San Diego I believe, Cincy and Yankee Stadium. Also, kind of like Platinum seating at the Scotia where Platinum ticket holders get to access the Platinum Club.

The days of an average income person being able to afford a good seat at any sporting event are dissappearing

Sad but very true. Also, factor in the cost of food and beverages at these sporting venues, it's absurd.

Blue Jays are still probably the most affordable ticket to see a sporting event in Toronto, though ticket prices have been increasing obviously over the years. Also, dynamic pricing based on dates and opponents as well, which is something the Jays never did under Beeston.

I remember back in 2009 and for a couple seasons after, I would buy 25 home games from a season seat holder who had seats two rows behind the Away dugout. Would pay $50 for each seat from him. They were awesome seats. I think now the cheapest price for seats like that through the Box Office are $124 each. Not sure what the season seat price is.

I could see with the new renovations done behind home plate, each game for sure will be above $150-200 per seat. Again in comparison to getting lower bowl Raptors or Leafs tickets, the average person can't even touch those.

Sorry poor people, there's profit to be made (at the expense of all else)

Do "average income" people really sit in the lower bowl right now though?

For the most part I see middle class people do that only rarely. Like, birthday present tickets or something. Most of the time the middle class family tries to sit in field level outfield seats, or somewhere along the baselines in the 200 level. Or in the outfield. And the poor college aged people or working class boozers sit in the 500s.

You can tell just by looking at them what income bracket they fall into? That's a neat trick.

The problem with these luxury seating options is the people who can afford these or would buy this stuff don’t cheer at games.

I have got luxury box tickets for Leafs and Raptors over the games through Casino Rama. I’m there in a jersey and surrounded by people wearing 1200 dollar suits and when the period starts they in their boxes drinking and don’t give a f*** about the game. Some of them stumble in for the final 5 or 6 minutes then retreat to the boxes.

The bottom line doesn't give a f*** about that. Better bottom line could mean more salary budget, which could mean a better team.

I mean even the changes in the OF aren't really intended for true baseball fans. Those are catering to casual fans who want to come drink more, hang out with friends and catch a little bit of baseball. I fully suspect the marketing studies suggest you need to have a ton of diversity within your options to optimize who buys tickets and that's what they seem to be going for.

How much money do you make and when you go to games where do you sit? lol

That'll be part of the new questions when you go to buy tickets.

annual household income under 100,000? Okay, youre options are the 500 level ... or standing room in the concourse. Thanks!

No sir, tickets in that area are for people who can actually afford to be here. We call them our "people who actually succeed in life" tickets. Anything else I can help with?

If I’m not in the lower bowl then I rarely go. I won’t watch a game in the 500 level even if the tickets were free.

I don't understand the people that pay for expensive tickets then stand in line at concession stands for over priced food and miss the game

I've sat all over the place...and I make more than enough to get good seats. Sometimes I just want cheaper seats, not because I can't afford better.

I've heard 500 level right behind home plate (say first 5 rows) is a really cool and good view. I want to try that out soon.

I also love the 200 level in general - almost from any location in the ball park. Shorter lines for food/washrooms too. 200 Level right behind home plate is probably my favourite seat in the house.

I think the 100 level between the edge of the infield and the outfield are the worst seats in the house. Those are the seats I wouldn't sit in, even if the tickets were free (200 level in those locations are better, but still not a place I want to be). I've always enjoyed 100 and 200 level outfield seats. Good value for me to take my family of 5 to.

Those reserved areas... lots of times its company big wigs booking them to do nothing but talk business and schmooze clients, they could give 2 rat shits about the game, it's just a way to write off your expenses.

I certainly understand this happens, but man do I struggle with it. If someone invites me to the baseball game - I want to watch the f***ing game. If you want to talk business, let's go out for dinner.

I dunno man. You sound pretty middle class and it sounds like you feel like you can't afford to sit in the lower bowl most of the time.

cheers!

field level outfield are horrendous at Rogers Centre. far from the action and the seats don't even point at home plate.

500 level near the infield, on the railing = good value

200 level somewhere along the baseline, on the railing = good spot

Didn't the renovations change the angle of all those wrongly pointed seats back towards the plate?

Haven't been yet this year but I don't think they are touching those seats until next offseason

by field level outfield I mean the seats in foul territory down the LF/RF lines

I concur on some of what you said here. I never understood why 200 level seats have better leg room than 100 level. In terms of seat angle 100 level is not good from first base line to third. I once had a guy with a head the size of a large pumpkin sit in front of me. Couldn’t see s*** for most of the game until he got up and left for the last three innings. He probably heard me complaining about the size of his noggin. Oh well.

I’ve sat pretty much everywhere in the stadium multiple times (including boxes and premium seats) and i’d say 200s (anywhere really) and 500s behind homeplate are the best seats considering view/value.

100s aren’t worth it unless its near homeplate and even then, the 100s seats are so tight and the slope angle isn’t great (people in front block your view).

Best seats in the house are 200s TD zone behind home plate. Movie theater style seats with personal waitress service. Worst seats (other than 500s back rows) are probably the 100s sides near the foul netting.

Haven’t tried the new 500s seats yet but im excited about the upgraded seats.

The one game i saw at Rogers center a few years ago I sat in those TD zone seats with the wife. Those were very good seats I must say, I was just to the 3B side.

The most fun I have ever had at Jays games was when I was a bleacher creature, much, much younger at both Exhibition stadium and the Skydome.

Now, in my more refined age, I have zero patience for those sections, seats are too tight, too far from the field etc.. So hard no.

I really don't think the $10K CDN for the new clubs is that bad. Works out to like $129 game which these days is good.

I am going to Boston for work the week of May 1st.. The Jays vs Boston happened to coincide with a work trip, wink, wink... I expect to get bent over for tickets even though the Red Sox aren't that good this year...

I am also going to see the Jays play the Marlins in Miami in June, that was over $250 USD for the Marlins' park..

Also going to Oakland vs the Jays in September, even at that s***** and empty stadium it cost me about $200 for the family for tickets.

None of the above prices include parking, food, beer, etc, etc..

You're assuming I go alone. Sometimes the people I go with would rather sit in the 500s or a friend can't make it and just give me the tickets.

If you're talking good Leafs tickets, then ya, that's beyond what I'm willing to spend

I'm really glad someone else noticed this , I thought I was crazy! Leg room is very important for someone who is 6 foot 6. Sorry about the big noggin, that was probably me haha.

Wonderful to know that there will be yet another sport that prices itself out of regular folks and families. Also nice to know that an even greater percentage of fans that show up to the ballpark will do everything except give a s*** about the game itself.

I know, I know, this is what progress is supposed to look like in the modern sporting world. Good business blah blah blah. But I'm allowed to yell at the sky.

I used to go to like 25-30 Blue Jays games per season when I was in university. Had that package of seasons I bought from someone second row behind the away dugout and games I didn't have tickets for would buy $5-10 tickets off scalpers for the 500 level and sit in my friends sections (who were ushers) down in the 200 or 100 level. I now maybe only go to like 2 or 3 at most and try to grab a Postseason game every series.

I would now rather sometimes watch the game in the comfort of my own home on my brand new Sony Bravia 65" OLED TV, have my own snacks and drink my own beer.

I'm okay with now going to 2 to 3 games per season, and if I go will try to get 200 Level seats around 1B or 3B line which are decent value. Also, would rather save and spend money on Postseason games instead of regular season, unless there is a special team or player I want to see.

In terms of other ballparks, I'll try to get really good seats since I'm visiting from out of town, even if it means splurging a bit. But for the most part, tickets for ballparks in the US aren't that expensive if you buy on StubHub before game time.
