max silver Old-Timey Member Posted September 25, 2023 Posted September 25, 2023 Moreno is a poor framer and DRS believes he's the second coming of Yadier Molina (who was, unsurprisingly, one of the best framers of all time). That's where the massive (2+ wins) difference in rWAR and fWAR are coming from. OAA still thinks he's a good defensive catcher, albeit more good than great due to the aforementioned framing issues. Fun fact: Varsho is 0.4 dWAR behind Moreno, as DRS believes he's Brett Gardner in LF and Kevin Kiermaier in CF. He has 27 DRS combined, 17 of which are attributed to his CF defense - which is as much as KK has but Varsho has accrued it in half the innings. Moreno is a poor framer by every available metric. He gains a huge boost from DRS adjusted catcher ERA which from what I can gather is a measure of game calling ability behind the plate. Perhaps the Yadier Molina comp is still valid, just not in the realm of framing. How do you measure Adjusted Earned Runs Saved? Much more than simple Catcher ERA, Adjusted Earned Runs Saved accounts for the quality of the pitching staff the catcher works with. There are still many other variables in play and some noise in the results, so we regress the final data to a more reasonable scale. https://fieldingbible.com/Fielding-Bible-FAQ.asp
Terminator Old-Timey Member Posted September 25, 2023 Posted September 25, 2023 It looks like 25 year old future superstar Nick Frasso has been transferred to the Development List. Congrats to him on his new career high of 93 innings. 19.1 of those innings were in AAA where he put up a 6.49 xFIP.
Terminator Old-Timey Member Posted September 26, 2023 Posted September 26, 2023 Lol bring him back. We need more *******s on the team. Too many vanilla personalities or good time charlies.

Olerud363 Old-Timey Member Posted September 26, 2023 Posted September 26, 2023 20 year anniversary yesterday.... He made it look so easy. Look at the effortless swing... At age 24 Delgado and Guerrero are the same! .270 25 93 guys with 1 WAR or so and some power but dissapointing power compared to their peers and man strength. Crazy how they took completely different paths to get to that stage at age 24. Delgado couldn't stick a couple of times and spent some time destroying the international league, his age 24 season was his first full season, first season with more than 150 at bats. Guerrero played every day since he was 20 and is in his 5th full season, including an MVP like season. But at 24 they are the same. Hopefully Guerrero just follows Delgado until age 36, then his last 4 years are also better and he just puts massive counting stats.
Masterbather Verified Member Posted September 26, 2023 Posted September 26, 2023 Edit: Already posted elsewhere I see. While JD is a prick, is this the kind of story you want to be putting out there with your team winning the division and about to go to the postseason? Fatso should shut the f*** up. Keep it in house instead of trying to make yourself look like an alpha fatty.

BigCecil Old-Timey Member Posted October 3, 2023 Posted October 3, 2023 The Hurl won the bet Varsho > LGJ on season WAR 2023, but not the kicker that he would pass LGJ by August. Varsho ends the season with 2.2 WAR and LGJ ends up with 2.1 Wall scraper. Not what we hoped.
Terminator Old-Timey Member Posted October 3, 2023 Posted October 3, 2023 Speaking of bets, does anyone know who had more WAR on a per dollar basis this year between KK and Bellinger? Would love to know the calculations for both fWAR and bWAR. Thanks.

Would love to know the calculations for both fWAR and bWAR. Thanks. Belli fWAR 4.1, bWAR 4.4, 17.5 million KK fWAR 2.6, bWAR 3.9, 9 million KK wins easily on bWAR the math there is obvious. On fWAR, KK 3.46 million per win, Belli 4.27 million per win. KK with a sweep in better value in a vacuum. Arguable as to who was worth more overall to each team given the Cubs fell short, Jays got a WC. Let the debate begin.

The Cubs missed the playoffs with Bellinger, I'm sure you know he"s no longer on the Dodgers. Pretty great brain fart though haha.

jaysblue Old-Timey Member Posted October 3, 2023 Posted October 3, 2023 Both KK and Belly ended up to be fantastic signings. KK came with lower risk since he only cost $9M vs. Bellinger at $17.5M. Just needed KK to stay healthy for the most part and play solid defense in CF, which he did. You needed Belly to make huge adjustments offensively in order to get solid value or else you were paying close to $18M for just a solid defensive player. Jays would have benefited more having Bellinger's bat in the lineup given the rest of this lineups struggles. But oh well, can't complain about what KK has provided for this club!

max silver Old-Timey Member Posted October 3, 2023 Posted October 3, 2023 That's why the Jays traded him Because he's a walking bad luck omen? It certainly does seem like misfortune follows the poor guy wherever he goes. Maybe next season he can break the curse if he comes back to the Blue Jays in free agency.
