Jonn Old-Timey Member Posted May 19, 2023 Posted May 19, 2023 I just don’t know if the Jays team is going to hit enough this Season.
Spanky99 Old-Timey Member Posted May 19, 2023 Posted May 19, 2023 No, we should have just plunked him. Several times...
Krylian Old-Timey Member Posted May 19, 2023 Author Posted May 19, 2023 I just don’t know if the Jays team is going to hit enough this Season. They won't. I was never completely convinced that the offense was going to be as substantial as some others. Half the lineup is very effective, the other half is abominable. And there's no depth guys that we can turn to that are any better.
max silver Old-Timey Member Posted May 19, 2023 Posted May 19, 2023 I just don’t know if the Jays team is going to hit enough this Season. This team has hit a lot less than I expected. I do think they have another potential gear offensively but they just haven't managed a streak where most of the lineup has been going at once.

On the pitching/D side they are 7th in xFIP and 1st for DRS. They pretty much carried out what they meant to do, improve the D and make the offense more dynamic. Speedy guys like Whit, Varsho and KK. Although to this point, a lot of guys have been underperforming. Realistically the offense should improve to just outside the top 5 by the end of the year. Guys like Kirk, Jansen, Springer, Varsho, Belt should have better stats by the end.

I think Springer, Kirk and Jansen are all going to eventually produce results closer to their actual abilities. The middle of the order has been the biggest issue holding th team back offensively so far, so once these guys start to click a little the situation should improve a lot. Second base very well may continue to be a bit of a black hole as only Merrifield has provided any value at all so far.
John_Havok Old-Timey Member Posted May 19, 2023 Posted May 19, 2023 Sabr shmaber. If you watch grass roots baseball even, 1b D matters. Stretching, scooping, getting a jump on balls hit to the holes. WAR dumb system with 1b THat was my point.
John_Havok Old-Timey Member Posted May 19, 2023 Posted May 19, 2023 Damn if he could bring that hammer curve consistently he'd be one hell of a back end reliever.
Solaxys Old-Timey Member Posted May 19, 2023 Posted May 19, 2023 Starting pitcher, check Lefty slugger, check Get him!
L54 Old-Timey Member Posted May 19, 2023 Posted May 19, 2023 Should be easy enough to find a decent bat at the deadline. Someone who can upgrade the backup IF spot would be great or a LHH OF

Someone who can upgrade the backup IF spot would be great or a LHH OF It's weird In the off season I felt really good about a bench of Merrifield/Espinal/Kirk/Biggio Now not so much..... Merrifield has shown himself able as an everyday player and Espinal/Biggo have done worse than nothing

Espinal is by far the most egregious of course. He's there mostly for the defense and he hasn't even provided that while hitting .171/.237/.229 He was expected to get plenty of playing time but he's somehow dropped himself from All Star to AAA option/DFA candidate

The only guy who has been worth a s*** has been Merrifield Hunter Renfroe would be a good target if they are out of it.
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted May 19, 2023 Posted May 19, 2023 Looked up Oakland A's middle IF depth charts in search of a trade Almost puked when realized they're all actually worse than what we already have
Spanky99 Old-Timey Member Posted May 19, 2023 Posted May 19, 2023 Man, that's a flippin' crazy overlay, he could be a serious weapon with consistency, my God!
Spanky99 Old-Timey Member Posted May 19, 2023 Posted May 19, 2023 But... but... our offense suxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

Yuck.
