Video shows up to 96 from the right and 92 from the left. I don’t know how hard Pat Vendeitte threw but doubt he was 90 from both sides.

Venditte didn't crack 90 either way, this kid has a bonafide shot at doing well. Nice, saw this on SN, pretty neat. He won't be eligible for a couple years as a freshman, right?

Yeah he was drfated out of high school by Milwaukee but passed. He's also a switch hitter and wants to play both sides of the ball. We'll see how that goes.

Another one going off about arbitration. And he spills way more details about what went on than anyone yet.

Rays reliever Ryan Thompson details messy arbitration hearing after losing battle over $200K

It's interesting to kind of get a look behind the curtain of these hearings. I can see why small market teams do this but if it's a player you'd like to keep for a while it can sour the relationship pretty quickly.

I can’t even keep up with modern baseball apparently. I just read about the “Savannah Bananas” for the first time just now.

I have tried to get tickets to take the family. All games sold out faster then a Taylor Swift concert. Damn hard ticket to get.

The Rays just don't seem to operate that way

Evan Longoria is the only player I can ever recall where there was *maybe* some favoritism in negotiations for putting a player over the team. And even he got coldly traded when he was about to not be worth his contract anymore. And you know they'll do the exact same thing to Franco when rhe time comes.

The producer called me you douchebag and they don’t just send anyone the backround check. It started with email correspondence. I could send you a screenshot of the producers number but I don’t need you to call him to verify his identity lol.

He told me obviously my work and the girl would need to be on board and reach back out

That would be awesome, I would 100% watch that. Once you do one season if you are smart you can come back for the other shows where you watch the show,,after the 90 days etc. You can also monetize your social media etc. You will get a lot of pussy even if it doesn’t work out with the girl. Good luck!!

Thanks and sorry to post on it again, but it seems dead in the water. But yeah, I see it like you do of course. Both girls say they’re not going to publicly embarrass themselves, and the Muslim girl didn’t like the public intimacy. I had a 3rd option I liked but not nearly as much as other 2. I had ghosted her after meeting her a couple days and sent a a random email basically being like” hey, going to sound weird but what about doing a tv show”.. she read it by didn’t even reply.

So whatever. I wasn’t guaranteed anything I guess anyway. The producer just wanted to get the girl on board and call him back for the “next steps” but maybe I still don’t go on idk, so I’m not going to start over I don’t think

I thought this was pretty interesting. I think most would assume that TB has had a lot more success over the years than Arizona (based on recency bias as Arizona obviously had a lot more success early on). I think Arizona's success has been a lot more up and down, but in the end, they've had similar success. Arizona is certainly on the rise again.

Nerdy 15 year olds might say Tampa but I think the casual and older baseball fan will say Arizona. Arizona actually won led by HOF and near-HOF players. Tampa...just exists. In Toronto we are biased because of the division rivalry and the struggles against the team but I don't think a lot of baseball fans think about or respect what the Rays have accomplished over the last 15 or so years. And honestly for good reason. There will also probably be people like me who hold the organization in contempt for finding constant loopholes in the system or bucking tradition that have brought changes to the game I don't like.

It's the finesse part of it.

Switch hitting doesn't necessitate using much finesse from either side of the plate. Even if you are a plus hitter from both sides who can, say, serve specific pitches into the opposite field at will... the finesse required pales in comparison to the specialization and feel needed to consistently execute offspeed pitches or hit your spots.

I think the only way to make it work and train each arm adequately would be to basically double your throwing time. Like if a normal P throws 7 hours per week, you need to throw 7 hours per week on each arm.

It would be funny to sign your switch pitching kid up for two travel ball teams and make him a RHP on one and a LHP on the other.

I was an amateur boxer back in my college days and I could hit as hard with my left really as my dominant right ride. But throw a baseball, and it’s like a 7yo girl. You need one of those Mickey Mantle dads having the kid throw both ways at 4yo

I get that. I feel the same way with boxing too, left is pretty close to right. Especially with uppercut. It could have to do with the elbow not extending too far behind the shoulder. When I flick something as opposed to a full throw, both arms are pretty close in performance. But the full throwing motion is where things go off. To Laika's point about finesse, my left arm can get reasonably close in distance to my right but the release point will be all messed up and it leaves my arm at some crazy bad angle.

That was only a few pitches but man that went by quick. Once pitchers/hitters get used to this, there's no doubt it's going to make the pace of play a lot better.

Absolutely. Best rule change in the past 30+ years since the one that made helmets mandatory for catchers while on defense in 1988.

I wonder if a pitcher who relies on various speeds of pitches would benefit from this time clock also?

The tighter the time frame between of pitches it would amplify the difference in speed.

.399 winning percentage their first 10 years, since dropping the Devil (how the bible belt hasn't embraced this team I just don't understand) .544

So lets look at those "just existing" 15 years.

2 AL Championships

8 playoff appearances (3rd)

8 90 win seasons (3rd)

4th in wins.

I won't even go into lowest payroll stuff that will get you triggered. That is a successful on field product.

A 10 pitch AB is going to be grueling for the pitcher.

I think what youll find is that PAs will trend downward in the # of pitches thrown per PA. I'm not sure why I think this, it just seems like that should happen

Everyone has to pitch like Mark Buehrle, so they may in fact need to pitch to contact a bit more.

I don't have the video, but the first violation was called on Manny Machado (surprise, surprise) for being too f***ing slow getting in the box. The umps points at him and clearly stats the count is 0-1, but of course the broadcasters can't figure out what happened, thought he pointed at the catcher and assigned a ball.

IG comment section is going off - most of which didn't catch the violation was on Manny - screaming this is stupid and the catcher didn't do anything wrong. What a s*** show. It's going to take several weeks for players, fans and broadcasters to adjust.

Hopefully they can iron most of it out in spring training.

Honestly, I am loving trolling old people on facebook, twitter and virtually anywhere else i can about the new rules. It's like anytime there's a post about the new rules, its' like the bat signal to anyone over 50 to get on and whine about how the game is ruined.

I like the rule. Don't care for the distracting countdown clock

Understandable, but... pitchers have to be able to see it.

I mean - they need their eyes checked if they can't see that baby. A tad smaller would be nice.

I assume there's another clock in the OF that the home plate ump/catcher can see too? Is it only the plate ump who makes calls? or can a base ump call a violation also?

Yep theres one in the OF also. As far as I know, only the HP ump can make the call.
