I think that's why the rest of us know these changes are good for baseball.

If you don't like extra innings then you don't like baseball, period. Do us all a favour and f*** off if you like this abomination.

I’m not sure many people “like it”. I would wager most don’t, but accept it for the intended purpose. I’m not sure on the players take, but o would be surprised if the majority weren’t in favor

At best you could say, if you don't like extra innings then you don't like what baseball used to be. This is the game now. And if you don't like it, it is, in fact, YOU, who does not like baseball. This is an unequivocal, undeniable, atomic fact, period. #science

Btw Grant, have you considered, get the f*** over yourself?

I love the extra innings rule.

I have been in favour of the rule since it was first proposed. Fans sitting on their ass at home are the only ones who enjoy extra innings. And as discussed after a certain time tv ads are basically free, so even TV people don't like it. I still would like to see it tweeked from runner on 2nd. But happy it is staying

Holy f*** - you're such a weapon. I played competitive baseball until I was 40 and now coach multiple rep baseball teams. I'm on the diamond 5-6 times a week in the summer and indoors twice a week all winter. I've been chatting with random strangers on the internet about baseball for the better part of 2 decades and have followed baseball religiously since Ryne Sandberg, Shawn Dunston, Mark Grace and Greg Maddux were playing afternoon games at Wrigley. You don't get to decide if I like baseball.

My post was a joke you dipshit (because we all know how f***ing unstable you are). You've helped prove the point, so thanks and happy valentines day.

Even then, I'd prefer to watch two 3 hours games then a sloppy 6-hour marathon where junkballers are going multiple scoreless innings because every batter is tired and swinging for the fences.

So after all the stupid Darvish extension stuff to save $1.8M in CBT money...they now head into 95% tax territory for Michael Wacha. I mean it might be better than Lugo starting but wastes contracts on a couple of no option guys they signed (Unless Honeywell can start the season on the DL)

They run their club similar to how fans would.

As a fan, happy that regular season games end sooner now. Watching a game go 17-18 innings can be boring (nothing really happens) and completely depletes each team for their next game. As a fan in attendance, watching a 6-7 hour game is too much.

I understand in the Postseason, there isn't much you can do so you have to let them play. Which I don't have an issue with if a game goes 12 or 13 innings.

Padres probably bidding against themselves for Wacha. No need to give him multiple years at this point in the offseason. I guess we'll have to wait to see the details of the contract.

Boom 💥

I don’t love all the new rules and would consider myself a more traditional fan, but Grant thinking he’s the moderator of baseball fandom is annoying. We get it man you like the way the game was played when Babe Ruth was around but times have changed.

Wow! Now this is a takedown! Reminds of of some of KingKat's epic dress downs.

Rockies outfielder Randal Grichuk tells Thomas Harding of MLB.com that he underwent surgery for a bilateral sports hernia a week ago. Grichuk said that he could be ready to return to game action in about six weeks in a best-case scenario. Since Opening Day is roughly six weeks away, it’s possible he could be ready by then, but it seems that missing some time will now be a distinct possibility.

“It was one of those things that was not going to get better, and it was a matter of when was it going to get worse,” Grichuk said. “I’d much rather miss Spring Training, get back late spring and miss only a little bit of [regular-season] time than try to play through the grind of trying to play every day, 100% effort, then let it flare in April and miss two or three months of the season.”

Maybe two years at lower AAV to *just* keep them under the third tier of the luxury tax?

I like the Padres signing Wacha. Their pitching depth is really bad so they probably needed him more than any other contender. Can't imagine the terms are that bad at this point.

But I do agree the overall construction of the team is pretty wild. If you're not in the LoD fantasy league you won't get this reference but Preller runs the team like William would if he was in control of an MLB team.

So thanks and happy valentines day.

I just wanted to let you know it's not too late to send Grant a Valentines Day gift. Also if you act now you can take advantage of the 25% off last minute sale.

So I heard some former GM's talking about this when Trevor Story annouced his surgery. One of the GMs commented that one of the big lessons he learnt was and if he could do things over again is to set earlier time tables in the off-season for player assessment.

They were highly critical of the Red Sox and waiting so long with Story and have him end up probably missing a large chunk of the season.

The GMs said that the Red Sox set a Christmas or New Year ICR evaluation date. The Red Sox should have set the date around American Thanksgiving at the latest.

I wonder how much of the same happened with Grichuk... Instead of setting hard early off season trip wires, these teams wait until last minute to get non acute surgeries done and lose asset value for the regular season...

I agree with Grant, this rule is dumb. I also fail to see how this is viewed as some kind of sure bet to shorten games. Road team scores a run, home team returns the favour with a bunt and sac fly to tie it and we are back to square one next inning. I can't wait for the 17 inning 15-15 game which you know is eventually going to happen. I'll admit I did enjoy the rule when I had some total over bets that were DOA that hit thanks to this stupidity.

You want shorter games? Stop allowing teams to roster 20+ AAAA relievers throughout the year who can all throw 95+ and average a K an inning on 20 pitches of max effort. Force teams to go the Rich Gossage route and actually pay good relievers to eat up innings or fail to do so and guarantee no long extra inning games or extra inning wins.

I admit the weakness to my argument is total lack of data. I honestly have no idea if there were more really long extra inning games in 2019 versus 1979.
