Super disappointing for baseball fans. There's an awful lot of great history in Oakland and things could have worked with a new stadium, much like in Montreal. It's a failure of the league and ownership more than the fanbase.

It's also the fault of Oakland's horrible city council, which has caused the loss of all 3 of the city's sports franchises in such a short span. I feel awful for the people who live there.

That "shoplifting crisis" angle is such horse s***, but even papers that aren't ridiculous, bottom tier tabloid ******** ran with it for a while (until industry spokespeople were forced to admit that it was a total fabrication/lie...)

You can find whatever you want in the numbers. Last I read, gang related organized theft in places like Portland was on the rise by like 25% which becomes worrisome when you you stop prosecuting. I’ll leave it to that. Just couldn’t let you get your lib slant in unopposed

Speaking of which...

What is Pearson's Stuff+ in AAA? Is there a website to find all this s***? Why isn't it on Fangraphs yet FFS?

If it remained on their hands for a couple of innings, how do they know the test in the 4th inning was from his hands and not from their own still being sticky?

The politics on the board always begins with a lib slant that the mods let go... I'm pretty center of the road politically, but pretty sure shop lifting is a problem. Always has been, but in the last few years trends in homelessness, drug use, and shoplifting, which are correlated have been up. Seems like that should be a common sense.

On the other hand are armed gangs of scary different people terrorizing the local Walmart? Probably not. I've never seen it at least. Just as likely white rich kids who want more than their allowance will buy are shoplifting around where I live.

Figured Las Vegas would be a choice with hockey and football thriving, though the only downside will be in the summer months tourism isn't as high as in the winter months, and most baseball games will have to be at night since Vegas is more of a nightlife city. Can't have 1PM or 3PM start times haha.

Nashville will likely be the second option. Baseball definitely will work there IMO.

Montreal won't get another team IMO unless they announce they will build a new ballpark downtown somewhere.

Portland has its issues as does every major city. Yes Portland over the last couple of years has seen a steady rise in homelessness, drug use and shoplifting. Those are the facts.

Will it stop the MLB from moving a baseball team there? Likely not. They still have teams in Detroit and Baltimore which are far worse.

It's about time. Now the stray cats and rats can finally take over the stadium.

Las Vegas A’s has a nice ring to it.

In no way wiill they change the team name from the Athletics. Its been the name of the franchise since 1901 across 3 cities.

Montreal is not getting a team.

Until around 85 attendance for the Expos games was top 3 in the National League in years they were competitive. Drawing 2.3 million or so a couple of times which was outstanding for that era.

Then something began to change. The 92-94 Larry Walker teams did not have the same attendance numbers the good Andrew Dawson teams did, despite being just as exciting and just missing. Of course we will never know what attendance would have been in August through September 1994.

Then the strike, lots of stars leaving and 97 through 2001 the team was a massive mess. Despite being first told they were to be contracted, then told they were going to be moved, then told to play 20% of their games in Puerto Rico there were signs attendance was starting to rebound 2002 and 2003 with interesting, sort-of-competitive teams, then they had a horrible 2004 and moved.

What does it all mean for Montreal as a market? Not sure. Can't imagine Oakland, Cleveland, Tampa Bay, Miami, Pittsburgh, and a few other cities doing any better than Montreal, if they had to play in a terrible stadium, in the suburbs with uncommitted ownership and runs of 6something win seasons.

So what is Montreal like with a nice downtown Stadium, decent ownership and average competitive winning cycles?

Montreal needs a new ballpark downtown.

Again, to attract casuals, will want the ballpark to be near great bars/restaurants, along the river and easy to get to. Ballpark will have to be like Seattle's or Houston's where the roof can open or close, but allow enough natural light in.

In terms of winning, yes most Montreal fans will go to the games and pay if the team is winning. If the team doesn't have a dedicated ownership looking to win a World Series, attendance even with a new ballpark will be an issue.

It also needs to be an Outdoor stadium with a roof for climate control. People in Montreal want to be outside in the Summer time. Another dome would not go well.

Diamondbacks just designated MadBum for assignment. Sick of his s***** play and constant drama I assume. What a horrible signing this became for the Diamondbacks. 5 years $85M (in 2020) and he gave them 2 WAR before being released.

I don't think we'll ever see another team in Montreal. I think they'd go to Mexico City before moving back to Montreal.
