Just noticed the Guardians/Tigers 1-0 game was only an hour and 50 minutes long.

Amazing

Only 7 innings because it's a double-header.

This is the most reliever thing ever. Credit to the Phils of course if they actually did find the formula for fixing him, but colour me a bit skeptical that he won't randomly go back to walking 6/9 either by midseason or next year seemingly out of nowhere.

He was pretty solid with the Rays.

I don't think the Phils fixed him. Just found a reliever with success in the past and he's found his previous form with them.

Yeah I don’t expect him to dominate all season

Meh relievers are funny. He can dominate this season and then be awful next.

That’s pathetic

I can't get over how few assets they have after selling Olson, Chapman, Montas, Manaea, Murphy, and Bassitt. Basically Shea Langeliers and Esteury Ruiz.

Christian Bethancourt, who Oakland traded to TB for a bag of balls last year, would be leading their team in fWAR.

Just an embarrassing, incompetent, shameful organization.

And by the time we roll into town mid June, as luck would have it, they'll all pitch like aces against us.

f*** this phantom runner s***. Tie games should be decided by a home run derby - get the fans excited. Curious to hear Grant's opinion on this idea.

I would endorse this just for the Grant meltdown

The 2023 As might be the worst MLB team I have ever seen.

Has a team ever had no 2-WAR players? There's a real path there for Oakland. Nobody on the pitching staff is a good bet. It's basically just Ruiz and Langeliers with a real shot offensively. Ruiz swings a pool noodle and isn't even really good at defense, and Langeliers just doesn't seem to be much good.

The worst news of this is they don't have a good 3B for us to trade for at the end of this season.

Half the board could run them better on the player side

Still should’ve mixed in a good player in return for all of those guys. They legit got zero.

Sure, but my point is that despite being atrocious at everything related to running a baseball team, they are making money for their ******** owner because of the revenue sharing in place from all the teams that actually give a f***.

Seriously, their attendance is garbage year after year and the owner is still pocketing 10s of millions in profits. With the way the revenue sharing works, there's literally no incentive for teams like theirs to even try fielding competitive teams. Their attendance this season would be 250,000 total, and theyd still makes 10s of millions in profits. It's a joke that MLB needs to do something about real f***ing fast, or youll see other orgs do the exact same thing.

People whine that the Mets owner is bad for the game by spending? f*** no. The guys ruining baseball are the all the gusy spending 50 million or less on payrolls while rolling in revenue sharing cash.

Wander's recent slump has been explained, he had a root canal today.

A gimmick is a gimmick. If they aren't going to decide games by playing baseball then they may as well make it exciting. Also, we have Vladdy.

This is a far bigger problem for the game than the Mets or PAdres spending too much money. The A's owner is so cheap he's let a possum live in the visitor's broadcast booth over two seasons now.

Both can be problems if left unchecked. BAsically as it stands now, the super rich teams are paying other teams money to simply not compete against them.

They honestly might be the catalyst to change the one all star per team rule.

Marcus Stroman is off to a great start

He has never had a FIP or an xFIP of 4.00 or greater

Remember when we all thought we made out line bandits to get SWR, Kay and Ryu for Stro? Good intent, but that was a swing and a miss.

Ryan Noda is the new greek god of walks and will surpass 3 WAR this season :)

I don’t think anyone looked at that trade favorably. We were all upset we didn’t get a better return.

Lets hope Manoah has a similar career. At least for his Jays tenure

IIRC most posters hated the return. I remember defending it, because I am a front office apologist. Many wanted one of the Mets' infield prospects at the time (Gimenez, Mauricio, Vientos...). It was an underwhelming return especially considering that Stroman was one of the best piece available that deadline and Toronto decided to flip him to a non-contender for some backend top 10 prospects.

It didn't work out for anybody. I think Stroman ended up sitting out the Covid season so the Mets really only traded for 11 starts from him, haha. His 2021 with NYM was the result of him accepting the QO, no?

The trade ended up bad for Toronto, but the Mets didn't get much value out of Stroman anyway, and the Jays were able to spin SWR into Berrios who was okay at first but then they f***ed that up by extending him right before he turned into a pumpkin. A string of sadness.

SWR still has a chance to make it though.
