BTS Community Moderator Posted February 17, 2023 Posted February 17, 2023 This is wild. "Putting me at the forefront as the reason why we didn't make the playoffs last year". Burnes made every start and had a 5-win season. Imagine torching your relationship with a top-5 pitcher in the game over 750k.

Like at least let $3m or something be where you bring out the grenades lol
L54 Old-Timey Member Posted February 17, 2023 Posted February 17, 2023 Teams will look for every single advantage to extract $/WAR even when it means ripping the best player on your team to his face over 750k. So dumb.
jaysblue Old-Timey Member Posted February 17, 2023 Posted February 17, 2023 Crazy about what the Brewers said about Burnes. I even imagine that hurts their image with other players and arms around baseball. Not sure the Jays have enough to trade for Burnes right now. If the Jays still had Moreno, could have been a possibility. Only other guy would be Bo, which isn't happening haha.
Jimcanuck Old-Timey Member Posted February 17, 2023 Posted February 17, 2023 Latest News Feb 17, 2023 11:26 AM EST Rodriguez could run more this season, Mariners manager Scott Servais told Corey Brock of The Athletic on Friday. Analysis Just four of Rodriguez's 25 stolen bases in his rookie season came after the All-Star break. Part of that was health-related as he dealt with wrist and back issues and part was pitchers simply paying more attention to him. However, Servais noted Friday regarding Rodriguez that stealing bases is "a big part of his game." J-Rod also figures to be one of countless players to benefit from the league's pickoff throw limits and bigger bases.

Brownie19 Old-Timey Member Posted February 17, 2023 Posted February 17, 2023 I'm not surprised by either decision to be honest. I figured McGriff wouldn't be able to choose between Toronto and Atlanta and would go with no logo
Terminator Old-Timey Member Posted February 17, 2023 Posted February 17, 2023 Small win on McGriff. We can partially claim him now and I fully intend to do so. If I were the team I'd have a special day for him and would put him on the Level of Excellence just to stake our claim if nothing else. Glad Rolen chose the Cards over the Phils or no cap. Phils are on my HoF s*** list and we all know why.
Ray Verified Member Posted February 17, 2023 Posted February 17, 2023 Robbie Grossman to the Rangers.
glory Old-Timey Member Posted February 17, 2023 Posted February 17, 2023 Robbie Grossman to the Rangers. Grossman signed for 1 year, $2m with $3m in potential performance bonuses. Would have fit in nicely with the Jays but based on those terms it looks like path to playing time was a factor in his decision. Looking like one of Lopez, Lukes or Bernard is going to get that final spot on the bench, unless I'm missing someone.
Terminator Old-Timey Member Posted February 17, 2023 Posted February 17, 2023 Thank god. More like Gross-Ass if you ask me. Dude sucks and I was tired of hearing about us signing him. Jays have about 4 better internal options including Otto Lopez.

So dumb. As Manoah and Bo said, it's a flawed system. 750K is a really dumb reason to pit against your staff Ace, *smh*.
Laika Community Moderator Posted February 18, 2023 Posted February 18, 2023 "it's a flawed system" says the player who clearly filed for way too much money and overestimated their own position

TheHurl Site Manager Posted February 18, 2023 Posted February 18, 2023 I'm not surprised by either decision to be honest. I figured McGriff wouldn't be able to choose between Toronto and Atlanta and would go with no logo I know he won his WS in Atlanta but really they were not his best years (which would be Toronto and San Diego. In the end he spent 5 years with Toronto, Atlanta and Tampa, 3 with San Diego. Then another 7 with Tampa post playing career. I'm sure Tampa was a thought for him too. 2nd player to ever play for the Rays in the HOF.
TheHurl Site Manager Posted February 18, 2023 Posted February 18, 2023 It isn't as if the system is new. Burnes agent did a really s***** job at prepping him for the meeting if he came out this hurt. Not saying the Brewers were right but this is what these meetings are. About 30 players a year go to the hearings and many still end up with good relationships with their team. Max Fried is going every year (how he lost this year is insane to me)

Bader, Judge, O.Cabrera, Hicks. I mean I expect Cabrera and Hicks to suck, so maybe Stanton does need to play some OF?
