Schneider getting roasted on FAN 590 for pinch hitting Kirk for KK

Is there anyone on the FAN who's knows anything about baseball? I didn't think so. It's media - their job is to create context that gets listeners and clicks. They might as well hire Tucker Carlson.

Schneider doesn't understand the mound visit rules. He also seems to let his pitchers bully their way into staying in the game. Make the move or don't, but quit getting cute with these stupid mound visits.

Schneider not knowing how many mound visits he’s at is f***ing brutal. Checked out or what? What about the rest of the staff not pulling him back?

I don't think the staff pulled him back because the decision was to just yank him. Well then he gets out there and let's Manoah talk him out of something he can't even do? Unreal.

John Schneider post game: “I f***** up”.

Will probably get a lot of use out of that quote.

lol had Monoah questioning reality

I feel like this is when the players start to lose respect for the manager. Dumb mistakes that the players can catch but the Manager doesn’t.

Are we looking at a 2nd straight year where we fire the Manager mid-season and go with the bench coach?? I guess we’ll see

Almost time to start up the Fire Mattingly thread

If that happens, it's Shapiro's move along with Atkins going out the door.

I get there’s some venting happening here but there is 0 chance Schneider gets canned right now unless the Jays go on some weird ass streak that sees them dump 20 out of 25 games or something.

I’d be okay with during the hitting strategist coach though, whatever the f*** that position is meant to do its failing.

No way Atkins fires another manager in season. It would make him (Atkins) look like a complete incompetent.

Oh and of course there was this one time that Mattingly had to remove his own pitcher when he didn’t want to when he went to the mound himself twice in the same inning on an even dumber gaff, so I guess Don is out as his replacement. Can’t hire a guy as a manager who would do something so dumb…

Gonna have to let Walker take over I guess.

I'm not sure how anyone can sincerely think JS is the issue.

In the entire 150 year history of MLB has a pitcher ever answered, "yes, please take me out of the game" when his manager goes out there to ask?

So even if Schneider was able to keep the mound visits straight, why even go out there and ask the question? Either pull the guy or don't.

Managers probably ask this regularly in some way or another whether they have made a decision or not just to see what the guys body language is when they give an answer. Hell, we saw Schneider leave his starter in last week after coming out to the mound and it worked out just fine.

It would have worked out fine anyway. Schneider getting to show his face on TV had zero to do with it.

Well yeah managers don't really have much of an effect anyway so he's not the issue but if we are going to spend this much time on a message board we might as well discuss the manager.

From what we've seen, he made garbage Game 2 decisions (Atkins and Co. probably a factor here), he acted like a donkey the entire Yankees series and then either didn't know the rule or forgot about the the previous mound visit from Walker. It's been a rough stretch.

He also seemingly requires a babysitter (Mattingly).

It’s a slip of the mind, s*** happens. Sam thing happened to Mattingly years ago except he made two trips to the mound himself between 1 pitch and the second trip was entirely accidental.

Hitting strategist is suppose to help them anticipate how the pitcher will approach them and what pitch and location to look for. So theoretically they should help Varsho stop swinging at high fastballs, and look for pitches he can handle.

Related are advanced proprietary pitching machines that some teams have that I assume are even more advanced than ones sold commercially (which look they are getting pretty advanced).

If you are interested here is an article on what the good teams do...

I can't get past the paywall, but I assume for the good teams like Baltimore that the role of 'hitting strategist' job would be to work with these guys in the cage, program the machine to their weaknesses, and get them drills and a program to help recognize the pitches they are struggling with. So in the Varsho example the hitting strategist should program the machine to throw a combination of high fastballs and other pitches at Varsho, to help him start recognizing them better.

Above is what the good teams like Tampa Bay and Baltimore do, now who knows what the hitting strategist does in Toronto.

The issue is outside of Manoah they haven't acquired, traded for and developed much talent from their losing cycle 2017-2019.

Vlad was signed in 2015, Jansen drafted in 2014, Bo, Kirk, Moreno signed/drafted in 2016. Gurriel in 2017.

Stroman trade was useless. 5th overall pick became useless. Pillar/Donaldson traded too late. None of the little trades they made at the deadline (other than Hernandez in 2017) got much of use I don't think.

If they had won 110 games a year from 2017 to 2019 Manoah wouldn't be here, but other than that not sure anything would be different about the team. Even the Chapman trade was done with assetts a winning team could have.

So there was no rebuild. This team is made of players acquired during the 2 ALCS years basically, and free agents vet-trades. No 'rebuild' type moves have worked at all.

Yeah, and clearly he sucks at his job. It’s Dave Hudgens.
