He’s just an easy DFA. I would like to see the bench upgraded. A legit pinch hitter option would be nice. Lower priority than pitching ofcourse.

Get Robertson and Ortega, 2 birds with one stone, move Tapia into Zimmer's role?

Quintana, Bednar, Barlow. Two of those three, I'll be happy.

Getting Bednar and Quintana might cost too much together.

Bednar would be terrific, can't see it happening though.

Quintana would be a throw in for cash and a C prospect, rental. It'd likely help the Jays in regards to Bednar.

Robertson and Bard aren't good enough IMO. The type of guys that come in and disappoint, I think.

Oddly enough I heard someone argue tonight that the Jays should be looking for relivers who have pitched in a lot of high leverage situations this year (instead of targeting setup men on non-contending teams). Romano leads the league in high leverage situations, while Bard and Robertson are both in the Top 5.

No idea if I agree with that position, but I thought it was ironic after reading your position on those 2 earlier today.

Marlins also open for business on everyone minus Alcantara.

Yup, and they are looking for MLB bat... Problem is they want a lefty power bat, of which we don't have one... Might have to do a three way to land Pablo Lopez and maybe we can pick up one of their RPs as well.. That would be very fertile hunting grounds..

That just seems like a good way to overpay. The reason I don't want Robertson or Bard is because their teams will want "closer" prices but they are not elite, not even close.

Like by K-BB% for relievers with 20+IP they rank 66th (Robertson) and 124th (Bard). That's out of 247 so Bard is closer to average than anything and Robertson is good but not elite.

I think my less "on the radar" targets might include:

Joe Jimenez

Chris Martin

Scott Effross

Joe Mantiply

Matt Bush

Andrew Chafin

Anthony Bass

Matt Strahm

Tyler Kinley

Just looking at the top ~50 in K-BB% this year, on bad teams.

Who in our lineup are you pinch hitting for? Tapia when he starts slumping is about the only one and if he's starting we've got 2 good pinch hitting options on the bench already. It's easy to say Zimmer sucks and we can upgrade him with a better bat. But that upgrade is going to have to be really good for me to ever want to use them to pinch hit for anyone at which point they're probably a starter and too expensive to acquire given the opportunity cost.

Zimmer is what he is, and it's not good but when your top 11 guys are as good as ours are(when Tapia doesn't suck) the 12th and 13th guys are only going to be useful as pinch runners and defensive replacements which Zimmer is fine as. Just don't try to use him as anything else.

I would easily pinch hit for Espinal. He needs to stop getting tons of at-bats against RHP. So if were trailing in a close game or need a big hit late. He needs to be pinch hit for. Hes abysmal. Last time I checked I think he is .OPS was under .640. Yup just checked an abysmal .637 vs RHP this season. And he somehow made the All-Star team despite not even being the best Second Baseman on his own Baseball Team. Cavan Biggio should be starting at Second Base everyday vs RHP.

This team would benefit from having a legit bat off the bench and I'm not talking about Tapia. Tapia is fine as the 4th OF.

That's all fair and the top guy on your list is atop my list as well. If they expect to get a 'closer' return for Robertson and Bard, then they can f*** off. Do you think there's any truth in targeting pitchers who are succeeding in high leverage situations if you're adding them to a team in a playoff race? (instead of guys with better numbers who aren't pitching in high leverage situations as often)

They wouldn't get closer price? That'd be absurd.

Kinley's done.

This value for Groshans is probably outdated, too high, sadly.

Makes sense. They are going to bad for awhile. May as well let him eat innings for the next 2 years.

To be fair Jansen's value is probably similarly too low, unless for MLB players they update in-season as projections adjust.

Meh if he rebounds next season, increases his value somewhat and they need someone to eat innings.

This should be an exciting deadline, come on Atkins

Yup now that the draft is mostly wrapped up, we should see some crazy action across the league the rest of this week.

Just waiting for the first big domino to fall

I'd love to see the Jays FO finally switch gears and quit tinkering around with the bullpen. Bring in a couple big arms if they're available and start to build a lock it down pen like the big boys.

Iglesias and Bednar would be two high leverage, closer types from garbage non playoff teams that might be available.

Would anybody here trade Pearson straight up for Bednar if it was offered, or is that just a stupid idea?

Bednar only two years older than Pearson and is already established as a quality high leverage closer.

Pearson still has the way higher ceiling but can never stay healthy.

Pirates would prob want a healthier prospect (or a healthier prospect plus Pearson as a lottery ticket)

At this point I'm sure we're better off just keeping Pearson and see what happens

I suspect just about everyone on here would make this trade in a heartbeat. If Pearson could actually stay on the mound he theoretically could provide more value as a starter, however it's become increasingly apparent that ship has sailed. Bednar is likely a best case scenario for what Pearson could turn into with better health.

I was going to suggest they had updated recently which they had but Groshans value hasn't changed since the offseason so perhaps they only update MLB players during the season, and prospects only get updated in the offseason.

But but but Toronto has an advantage or something.... as if we don't have a smaller player pool to try to acquire players or something

Dammit that sucks. Well at least we know for sure no Chafin trade is happening

What does the club really need pitching wise that necessitates moving pieces off of the MLB roster? I see the need for some bullpen reinforcements and a back of the rotation pitcher/swingman. The team has plenty of prospect capital to make these types of acquisitions. Swapping Gurriel for Laureano looks to be more of a sideways move in my view. If I'm not mistaken, Gurriel only has one remaining year of control so he wouldn't likely be of great interest to weaker/rebuilding clubs who are willing to move pitching out at the deadline.

LGR jr is not a FA until 2025, is a MLB piece, OF, good bat, Cuban. All the things Miami wants except for being left handed... Regardless, Miami wants OFs...
