Jonn Old-Timey Member Posted July 28, 2022 Posted July 28, 2022 Bentendo still has a 6 week process to come to Canada if be plans to get 2 doses. Unless he gets Johnson & Johnson he could do it in 15 days. Doesn’t sound like a substantial return so hopefully that sets the market on not overpaying.
Stangstag Old-Timey Member Posted July 28, 2022 Posted July 28, 2022 I really want to see a high end player call their bluff. Aaron Judge should grow a beard. That would be an extreme alpha move. Grow a beard, continue mashing, walk away to the Mets in the offseason. Absolute Chad s***

You know it’ll likely be J&J, just makes more sense time-wise and especially for someone who would be against the vaccine in the first place
Spanky99 Old-Timey Member Posted July 28, 2022 Posted July 28, 2022 Scenario One Blue Jays: Hey do you want to sign up here in Canada? Toronto is a nice city and it's got a bunch of nice people and even though taxes are high we will pay your more! Players: No thanks. Scenario 2 Yankees: Hey will you take a discount to play in this shithole town? Oh yeah, you'll have to shave your balls daily, convert religions and get a vasectomy too. Players: Sure! Basically... lol... he's an upgrade on Gallo.
Spanky99 Old-Timey Member Posted July 28, 2022 Posted July 28, 2022 Royals get... Click on the links, certainly wasn't nothing, two decent prospects.
Ryu In My House Verified Member Posted July 28, 2022 Posted July 28, 2022 Oddly enough I heard someone argue tonight that the Jays should be looking for relivers who have pitched in a lot of high leverage situations this year (instead of targeting setup men on non-contending teams). Romano leads the league in high leverage situations, while Bard and Robertson are both in the Top 5. No idea if I agree with that position, but I thought it was ironic after reading your position on those 2 earlier today. I have a strong feeling they pick up Robertson before the deadline. The Jays have to consider who hasn't had their COVID-19 vaccinations. If we had a list of players who haven't, we could scratch them off the list.

BlueJaysFever Verified Member Posted July 28, 2022 Posted July 28, 2022 Okay Benintendi doesn't suck but he's a super boring player that might give the Yankees like 0.6 extra projected WAR. Looks like a couple of the arms they gave up are actual prospects Fair trade but it doesn't make the Yankees any scarier I think they’re basically dime a dozen prospects but more bullets in the chamber is never a bad thing. Which is completely reasonable for a guy that won’t move the needle a ton, however being able to replace Gallo with a competent AB is solid for them

Looks like a couple of the arms they gave up are actual prospects Fair trade but it doesn't make the Yankees any scarier Given Stanton's injury and the way Gallo has played, Benintendi might be boring but he's definitely a nice add and will be a positive upgrade IMO. Also gives the Yankees a different type of bat in their lineup instead of a big power bat, so he'll add some balance. Also, I see his power numbers improving hitting at Yankee Stadium and other AL East ballparks.
jaysblue Old-Timey Member Posted July 28, 2022 Posted July 28, 2022 Basically... lol... he's an upgrade on Gallo. Yeah I don't think the Yankees care about the one remaining series in Toronto this season. Even if Beintendi is left off the roster, they still can put together a solid lineup. Even during a Postseason matchup in October if they played the Jays, the Yankees would have home field advantage anyways. And who knows by October if the policy changes for both the United States and Canada in terms of travel.
The Iceman Verified Member Posted July 28, 2022 Posted July 28, 2022 My crystal ball says one move the Jays make is we get Robbie Grossman as the Dickerson/Dyson type role. Low acquisition cost and bye-bye .107 Zimmer
Dagagad Verified Member Posted July 28, 2022 Posted July 28, 2022 In retrospect my fave deadline moves are usually big or small with not much in between. So, if we go big, make it Castillo or a pitcher or hitter who can make a substantial difference. Otherwise, rentals. No buying control for relievers. Get a Zimmer replacement for cheap. That kind of thing.
Daniel Labude Jays Centre Contributor Posted July 28, 2022 Posted July 28, 2022 A.J. Puk could be a relatively cheap reliever option
Carlos Danger Old-Timey Member Posted July 28, 2022 Posted July 28, 2022 A.J. Puk could be a relatively cheap reliever option Would love that move! Fits various needs!!

Nah, I read he's getting vaxxed, they certainly upgraded, they'll use him as the strong side of a platoon with Hicks when Stanton comes back, and those border restrictions are going to be even tighter in a few months friendo,
Spanky99 Old-Timey Member Posted July 28, 2022 Posted July 28, 2022 Wasn’t he one of the anti-vax A’s? Don’t think he made the trip to Toronto. Yes he wasn't vaxxed.

Krylian Old-Timey Member Posted July 28, 2022 Posted July 28, 2022 Is there a database of unvaxxed players anywhere. Easier to know which players we can just ignore from a trade standpoint.

Maybe it's not an ignor thing anymore, clearly players are changing their minds on vaccine status based on the possibility they may have to travel to Canada for playoff ball. Could mean theyre also willing to change their minds if they are on the trade block to the Jays.

No point in trading for someone who is 15 days away for playing with your team if they get the vaccine today. We need players who can come help now.

There’s a 10 game road trip in August with 2 offdays. If you traded for someone today and they had to get vaxxed they would only have to stay in the US and miss the Detroit series

Solaxys Old-Timey Member Posted July 28, 2022 Posted July 28, 2022 Dun dun DUNNNNN (its probably just rest - no moreno or groshans ) Horwitz more time in LF tho - maybe, if not traded, comes in next year to replace Tapia or Zimmer? I think he has to make 40-man this year or rule-5 draft.

Jonn Old-Timey Member Posted July 28, 2022 Posted July 28, 2022 lol. I got to pay more attention to the username. This is the worst time of year for it lol. I have already blocked over 10 accounts and were still days away from the deadline lol. A good rule of thumb though. Is no non American player will be unvaccinated. They had to be vaccinated in order to get into the US. Only American players who have never had to leave the country will be unvaxed.
