Bullpen needs upgrades if this team actually plans on competing for a WS

This pen is built to shut down the Detroit Tigers not the New York Yankees or Houston Astros

Hopefully Pearson can help. Not holding my breath though. Need at least one and probably two guys better than Garcia/Cimber/Phelps

Agreed... Pearson, Hernandez and a trade should help immensely. I don't seriously see what CD thinks he's dunking on, lol.

Hopefully one of those two guys internally can be impactful.

Yea, so the point of this board is to discuss opinions, make predictions, prognosticate on what you think will happen or should happen to the team/player.

However, you consistently reply to many of these posts in a snarky know it all manner with your lol, WTF etc. Your not Spanky who actually knows baseball.

You are one of the most frequent users of snarky replies but also one of the posters with IMO the least knowledge of baseball, what it takes to build a winner and a winning team. High post count, low baseball IQ.

I made a post questioning our rotation depth and depth past the five starters. Your response was, Lol WTF..

Just wanted to point out again how wrong you always are, which I would have no inclination to do if you made a reasonable response to a post instead of being an ignorant smart ass.

You are like the worst fielder and hitter on a Little League team shouting at teammates for an error or a K..

You have no baseball cred and no clue.

Not feeling the Jays pitching, maybe 3 reliable SPs, and no solid depth.

And that mindset when everyone knew our bullpen was already trash was THE reason why we failed to make the playoffs and a chance at a world series last year. Kicking the can down the road comes at a price and hopefully it doesn't make the difference between a top 2 seed vs playing in the Wild Card round.

I have already stated that we have the worst bullpen amongst all the elite teams in baseball. I realize not every team can have a perfect roster but this is still our Achilles heel.

You can take a look at the Vegas odds for who is expected to win the World Series. The teams at the top of this list are who we should be comparing ourselves against.

This team is missing 1 or 2 shut down relievers that seem to be very important for every World Series winning team. Maybe some of our current guys can become that since the bullpen are such crapshoots but I wish we tried to invest into some this offseason. I want a prime Andrew Miller clone lol.

If you are talking about, me, I never said our BP sucked, I do think it still needs improvement. I was replying to posters who said it was one of the top 10. It helps to look at things objectively. The writer states it is basically a toss up between the Red Sox and Jays BP. What the Red Sox writer also says, is that the Yankees and Rays have better pens. That is kinda of important when both are in our division and in the context of a playoff push.

This is not directed at just you, but it seems like many on here have lost their ability to be objective and are letting homerism or articles from the Toronto Star shape their opinions.

Looking back to the start of the 2022 season we all realized our pen was crap in 2021 but it seems more than a few of us were bullish on the 2022 pen. Hat tip to the posters above, Carlos Danger, Jays24 and L54. They called it early in April.

I wouldn’t equate “better than Boston” with being necessarily bullish on the bullpen

There are still some posters on here who think the bullpen is fine as is heading into next season.

It is "fine".

They are losing one player who does not matter from a decent but unspectacular bullpen.

It could be improved.

Surely they will try to make it better.

This is the best way to describe our situation.

Our bullpen had performed better this season than both the Phillies and Padres.

That can't be true! I'm told that only teams with great bullpens win in the playoffs. I mean look at the Yankees and their lockdown pen!

For all the talk of how thin our rotation is, and deservedly so, we have a plethora of AAA hitters who look like solid depth/bench players we can pull from heading into next year. I don't think Steamer's 2023 projections are out yet, but by using the in season projections all of the following look like they could be solid, Barger especially. There's also some fringier types like Chavez Young (CF defense), Davis Schneider and others.

Otto Lopez - SS/CF

Spencer Horwitz - LF/1B

Tanner Morris - 2B/3B

Addison Barger - 2B/3B/SS

Maybe we could find a team that would want one of these guys for an equivalent AAA SP. Some team with okay pitching but major holes in the lineup could line up in a trade. Or maybe even Craig Biggio's son could be used in a similar trade.

I assume the Dodgers would just give him away but I don't think Bellinger at his projected 18.1 Mil arb price is a good fit when we are going to need to add a couple of starting pitchers who will be pricey. His glove grades out well but his bat is just so atrocious. I'd rather just offer Stripling the QO.

If Bellinger gets non-tendered perhaps we could offer him something much lower than 18 mil but even then I just don't see CF as this huge need like the rest of the board does.

I think the argument is if Springer is going to DH 30-40% of the time to "rest" him they need a capable CF.... Or you move Springer to RF and get a full time CF.

Bellinger barely grades out any better than Merrifield who we have a team option on for 6 million.

Bellinger's a CF and Merrifield's a RF/Utility with like 60 games at CF. Say Merrifield's option gets picked up... so now he plays CF and Springers goes to RF?

Ohtani isn’t getting traded until Arte sells the team

Yeah and on top of it it's hard to see a new owner coming in and trading Ohtani as their first move. If he gets traded it's probably at the deadline.
