By fanbase, you mean social media? What was said during the telecast?

Social media, fans chatting at the ballpark, media perception. He's more low-key than Manoah, which I think contributes, and of course the ever important win/loss record🙄

Tapia leading off and JBJ batting 9th.

Charlie at home with a tear of joy trickling down his face looking at that lineup.

IÂ’ve heard numerous pundits say Manoah is TorontoÂ’s Ace.

ItÂ’s just Wins and ERA bias I guess

There was a point a few weeks ago where Gaussman's era was like 5-5 3.30 or so and he was coming off of a rough patch, and Manoah's was like 9-1 2.20 or so with good peripherals.

Difference between them in conventional stats has closed a lot in a few weeks, and Gaussman has increased his lead in advanced stats.

Awful lineup today. Tapia shouldn't be batting leadoff. Shouldn't also have both Tapia and JBJ in the lineup. Shouldn't be sitting your starters against an ace like Gerrit Cole. I understand Springer since he's injured, though Lourdes or Merrifield should be out there or heck even Biggio who has 2 HR's off of Cole.

Biggio should definitely be playing over Tapia, especially if it’s in LF.

A smart front office doesn’t give Tapia 400-500 plate appearances in a season they want to compete. I’m not sure what the hell the Jays are doing or what they see in him.

This has been my issue with the team this season. They're wasting ABs on players like Tapia especially when hitting him at the top of the lineup. He shouldn't be playing this much even now with Biggio and Merrifield here. If Tapia is in the lineup, he should be batting at the bottom. Like you said, a team like the Blue Jays who are trying to contend for a Wildcard spot shouldn't be playing him as often as they have, especially when he also hurts you in the field as well. If the Jays miss out by one game again, it's because of the organizations incompetence when it comes to roster utilization and construction.

I hope next season this front office realizes that guys like Springer are fragile and they need some adequate roster depth behind him and others. During the offseason, bring in a solid 4th OF who could play all OF positions and who wouldn't hurt you if he has to play for an extended period of time.

They seem to do this every f***ing year. Last year had guys like Breyvic Valera and Josh Pelacios getting too many starts. 2020 it was Joe Panik getting too much playtime

And from the moment Tapia was acquired, we all KNEW he would be playing way too much

Yup, they give these guys way too long of a leash. If they want give their fourth outfielder 4 to 5 starts per week, bring in someone who can be above average. Adding a 4th outfielder who you're comfortable giving 300-400ABs shouldn't be that difficult during the offseason. It wouldn't be a bad idea given Springer's fragility and in case another OF goes down. At the end of the season, it would be a shame if the Blue Jays missed out by the Postseason by only ONE game again. Shouldn't happen and if it does, you can point to this FO giving players like Tapia too much playing time and not properly addressing these needs during the offseason.

You're battling for a Wildcard spot, against a team in front of you and against their ace. No excuses why Tapia and JBJ should be starting over Lourdes, Biggio or Merrifield, especially when Springer is out because he's banged up.

Talking about having a guy on the bench primarily as a pinch runner ... makes me think of Tom Lawless in 1989 who helped the Jays clinch the division against Baltimore with a big stolen base in extra innings during the final weekend vs. the O's.

Iunno, half glass full take.

Biggio can't hit fastballs.

JBJ is one of the best fastball hitters (iirc) this season v. Merrifield who hasn't been crazy good at the plate (struggling I'd say)

Springer still healing knee

Gurriel has never had any success against Cole (.100/.174/.100 in 23 PA) v. Tapia who at least has speed/contact to put pressure on the defense who has been pretty s*** of late.

On the topic of Gausman, is fWAR for pitchers just not reliable tool to measure how well the pitcher is doing? Gausman literally leads the league in fWAR for almost the entire season and he's hasn't been a favorite to win the cy young at all on betting sites. I've also heard no one in media talk about him winning in the media. bWAR has him quite a bit lower for what Its worth. I also know that WAR isnt everything, but I was seriously surprised to see him being such a dark horse he's been elite this season outside a few bad stretches.

His babip is also at .366, surely that isnt sustainable so I figure it stand to reason he could be even better down the stretch

You kinda answered your own question about fWAR, bWAR and then mentioning babip. fWAR doesn’t give a s*** about what his babip actually is since a pitcher cannot control the outcome of a batted ball event.

I have barely been able to get on line or have time to watch tv in 4 days and we are 4-0. I’ll keep the streak going for science until we lose.

Tomorrow's game is huge.

If we win we are 6 games back which is daunting but doable. Rotation 1-5 looks solid and the bullpen is both really deep and good.

8 games back seems like a longshot.

Only 5 games back in the loss column as well. It sounds trivial, but it matters. Things are definitely looking up if we can get a win.

He looks like a kid whose team just lost the lead in a LLWS game

Would be awesome to sweep the Yanks! Still taking 3 of 4 is huge!

Manoah going tomorrow gives the Blue Jays a great chance and they already got Cole out of the way. If they were going to lose a game this series, would have thought it was going to be today.

Have decided I want them to catch the Yankees

Ten and a half games back is a stretch. But if we get to within 5 by the end of this month I am on that train!

Two weeks later....

Manoah has also been insanely consistent all year, which counts. Basically there has never been a single game where he has f***ed us over. Gausman is unhittable most of the time but occasionally will pitch like Kikuchi.

A great base stealer can absolutely steal you games in October when runs are truly at a premium. Ideally, they wouldn't be black holes offensively because it's tough to justify a roster spot for strictly a base runner, but on the other hand they can also be the difference between winning and losing playoff games and beggars can't be choosers.

Yes. With the new rule that you can't carry more than 13 pitchers, we absolutely have the roster space to carry a pure pinch runner/defensive replacement.

What do you think the run probability difference is when you pinch run Hamilton for Kirk late in the game? Probably huge. I would love to carry a 3rd catcher again so we can do this often. It gives Kirk some innings off his feet as well.

With Biggio and Merrifield covering the outfield I would love to dump Bradley Jr. and Tapia for Hamilton and Collins. The front office has a boner for Tapia so this would never happen.

Hernandez has a bruised left foot and X-rays were negative Saturday, Keegan Matheson of MLB.com reports.

Analysis

He exited Saturday's contest against the Yankees late in the game after fouling a ball off his foot. The Blue Jays will see how Hernandez's foot feels Sunday morning before determining his status for the series finale.

I didn't even realize it happened.
