Yeah the lineup was going to be ugly no matter what with no Hernandez and Chapman sitting out but Tilapia batting 5th makes it look even worse. At least Heinamen isn't playing.

Does anyone know why Chapman is not in the lineup tonight? Is he simply getting some rest? Is he a really bad matchup against Severino? Or a bit of both? Or simply trying to get as many left handed batters in the lineup as possible?

Rest days should not happen when playing that team you need to beat in the division. Only way this move makes sense is if you fully expect to lose the game.

Kirk is struggling, Tapia is Tapia, Zimmer is Zimmer... Espy isnt scaring anyone despite his new EV. Severino could throw fastballs only for half the lineup and not even worry.

Yeah the lineup still isn't even that bad; it's just bad compared to our usual All-Star lineup.

 

Kirk can really hit. Biggio and Espinal project well. Tapia isn't a strong hitter by any means but against righties he's not a total zero. Zimmer probably can't hit but he's batting 9th and is one of top defensive outfielders in baseball. The lineup is fine.

Yes, most of those guys with MLB experience will have a clause in their minor league contract saying if they arent added to the roster by X date, they can opt out of the minor league contract to sign elsewhere. That's what happened.

He's currently in Scranton in the midst of a 2 for 15 slump to start the year. Although I'm not sure slump is the right word because that would imply that he's actually a better hitter than that and he's not really.
