I mean, yeah. But the last time we moved someone like this in a trade it was Jeff Hoffman, and that stung at the time too.

Of course, I LOVE this trade.

Chris Sale has a fractured rib, suxxx for him, great for us. :P

It's gonna be so nice having him over there instead of Biggio. It'll probably add a couple years to our lifespans.

I'm mentally preparing for him to make an error on an easy play in the first week of games. If I don't start preparing for that now, I'm going to explode from the number of dumb takes if/when it happens.

I am friggin so happy. There were so many game changing errors at 3B last year and now we have a stud there. On top, there's hope you can get his bat back to normal after enough time to heal from hip surgery, there's no reason not to LOVE this deal. Edited by Jays24

24-15 advantage jays on baseballtradevalues.com

I dig it. Hoglund will be replaced in this years draft. Team upgraded in off-season with only losing hoglund/smith. Ideal. About 20m to spend you would think.

Kirk bulk of dh

Pearson to aaa rotation with loss of logue.

Opens up 2 roster spots on the 25 man

Get another bat to rotate through and bp arm ( rosario and jansen/tepera work for me)

I like it. It allows you to copy and paste a name or excerpt from the tweet without clicking/highlighting the actual tweet(which then opens up the tweet in a separate tab).

I am very happy with this trade. Makes me feel good that in what seems to be a buyer's market (Oakland, Cincinnati), the Jays finally got the piece they needed off the discount rack. This is ultimately what I wanted as well, to shore up the defense. Yeah the BP stunk it up for the first half of the year last year. You know how NOT to fix that issue? By putting below average fielders at every infield position which is what would have happened with Guerrero at third and Freeman at first. That being said, even with Chapman, I have absolutely no qualms with acquiring Freeman or Schwarber if the price is reasonable.

I mean it doesn’t get much better at Third Base. And we needed a Third Basemen. Hard to not like this a lot. Hoglund could be very good. But it’s hard to get attached to a guy that was just drafted and never threw a profesional inning due to injury.

Schwarber signed with the Phils for more than I'd have been comfortable paying.

I guess like everybody I think we slightly overpaid with Hoglund but I think we can survive. Snead was probably going to have to come off the roster, so at least his coming off the roster provides some value. Smith would have been the second backup infielder, so no big loss. Logue I kind of anticipated going in this type of trade.

So next steps: pick a backup backup infielder, figure out what to do with the dh slot and maybe backup outfielder. That should be the offense. In terms of the bullpen, maybe another high leverage arm.

You think this was an overpay? I would say this is much closer to a fleecing in our favour than any kind of “overpay”.

Haven't been on this board much lately but did people have their hearts set on Jose Ramirez or something? This is an awesome trade. The return is very reasonable and Chapman could be another potential star in the lineup. If not, his defense still makes him an above average regular. Very excited about that; it's been a long time since the Jays have had an elite infield defender and this should take some pressure off of Bichette on the left side.

Wow Smith, Holland, Logue and Kirby Snead

It’s g0nna be WAY more then u guys think

Great trade.

Logue and Snead don't have much/any value. I guess Logue has a small amount as a controllable arm with a chance to start a bit.

Smith is high risk. So is Hoglund. Both have value and could be good but odds are they will not be major contributors.

Question for the uninformed.

Does this help in any way the players exposed for the rule 5 draft if that draft is still happening?

I kept thinking that we were going to lose Kevin Smith if we didn't take him north to start the season as an example.

How is that an overpay? We clearly won that trade even if Chapman doesn't return to his 2018-2019 form.

I started doing this because some people said they couldn't see embedded tweets on the device they were using. I don't know if anyone has that issue anymore but I decided to keep doing it this way in case they do. I also figured it would be good because the text would still be there even if the tweet got deleted or Twitter was down.

The Rule 5 draft was cancelled

The biggest acquisition the Jays has made this season that may have the biggest impact is the Rogers Centre for 81 games. But still gotta love the trades and signings..

This trade is a good litmus test to see who is just a prospect-hoarding reactionary on this board. There is no one given up in this trade that would have provided much value to the Jays heightened level of contention over the next 3-4 years. And they can be easily replaced in future drafts during that time. The Jays take a mild hit in farm system rankings but when your team is basically set for the next three years, farm team rankings don't mean much.
