Krylian Old-Timey Member Posted March 16, 2022 Posted March 16, 2022 Highly doubt the we gave up anyone the org is extremely high on Hope not. It's not like Chapman had a good year with the bat last season. His value isn't what it used to be.

Deadpool Old-Timey Member Posted March 16, 2022 Posted March 16, 2022 Hope not. It's not like Chapman had a good year with the bat last season. His value isn't what it used to be. I could see someone from our second tier of pitchers, Van Eyk, Robberse (though I would rather keep Sem, 'cause Dutch!) or the like.
RustyTrombone Verified Member Posted March 16, 2022 Posted March 16, 2022 Smith, Robberse, Jimenez and maybe another down list guy. Thats my guess.
gruber92 Old-Timey Member Posted March 16, 2022 Posted March 16, 2022 Otto Lopez could be another name involved.
Spanky99 Old-Timey Member Posted March 16, 2022 Posted March 16, 2022 Baerga said it was 2 spects... and leaked Smith, it'll be a good prospect guys, 3.5 projected WAR's expensive.
HERPDERP Old-Timey Member Posted March 16, 2022 Posted March 16, 2022 As long as Chapman continues to pick it, I don't mind a 3 WAR year as opposed to his 6 WAR years from several years ago
The Cats Ass Old-Timey Member Posted March 16, 2022 Posted March 16, 2022 Hope not. It's not like Chapman had a good year with the bat last season. His value isn't what it used to be. Even with his hitting the past two years he was still inside the top 10 3Bs both years. Prior to that he was top 3. His K% skyrocketed, maybe he needs a pair of glasses.
RustyTrombone Verified Member Posted March 16, 2022 Posted March 16, 2022 Baerga said it was 2 spects... and leaked Smith, it'll be a good prospect guys, 3.5 projected WAR's expensive. Oakland has no leverage here, everyone knows they are desperate to shed $$$. Chapman coming off his worst offensive season should make the cost significantly less than Olson who got a pretty underwhelming return for a 6 win player.
Pendleton Old-Timey Member Posted March 16, 2022 Posted March 16, 2022 Baerga said it was 2 spects... and leaked Smith, it'll be a good prospect guys, 3.5 projected WAR's expensive. Pearson + Smith seems reasonable to me
RobinThicc Verified Member Posted March 16, 2022 Author Posted March 16, 2022 Pearson + Smith seems reasonable to me Morosi said its no one off the roster, so I dont think it'll be Pearson.
Deadpool Old-Timey Member Posted March 16, 2022 Posted March 16, 2022 Pearson + Smith seems reasonable to me Posted above that it won't be anyone from the MLB roster, that would exclude Pearson.
Spanky99 Old-Timey Member Posted March 16, 2022 Posted March 16, 2022 Pearson + Smith seems reasonable to me It's not supposed to be any MLB guys, though.
Angrioter Old-Timey Member Posted March 16, 2022 Posted March 16, 2022 Welcome home, chapman and his +32% k rate
Pendleton Old-Timey Member Posted March 16, 2022 Posted March 16, 2022 It's not supposed to be any MLB guys, though. Gotta be another quality spec then

I think it's headlined by Groshans or Tiedemann. We'll see.

RustyTrombone Verified Member Posted March 16, 2022 Posted March 16, 2022 I hope I'm wrong, haha. I think it's headlined by Groshans or Tiedemann. We'll see. Would be extremely foolish to give up Tiedemann.
Angrioter Old-Timey Member Posted March 16, 2022 Posted March 16, 2022 Carlos Baerga: Suzuki to the Cubs 5/70M
Pendleton Old-Timey Member Posted March 16, 2022 Posted March 16, 2022 Carlos Baerga: Suzuki to the Cubs 5/70M Thought he wanted a warm climate, maybe someone informed him baseball is a summer sport.
saskjayfan Old-Timey Member Posted March 16, 2022 Posted March 16, 2022 Welcome home, chapman and his +32% k rate Yeah, that K rate will get frustrating at times, but even in his worst year last year he was still a league average hitter so even if he can bounce back a little bit 5 to 10% better than league average hitting 7th or 8th with elite defense. I'll take it. If we're talking 2 prospects and Smith is one of them, I would guess the least it could be is Groshans. I'd be fine with that. If it turned out to be Moreno, I'd hate the deal. Also I'm shocked at how many people would be fine with Pearson going and have given up on the kid. He'll get his opportunities to start when injuries hit the rotation this year, and we'll be glad he's still with the Jays.
Spanky99 Old-Timey Member Posted March 16, 2022 Posted March 16, 2022 Carlos Baerga: Suzuki to the Cubs 5/70M Wasn't that yesterday?
saskjayfan Old-Timey Member Posted March 16, 2022 Posted March 16, 2022 Thought he wanted a warm climate, maybe someone informed him baseball is a summer sport. Turns out he wanted an extra 10 million dollars more than he wanted a warm climate?
Spanky99 Old-Timey Member Posted March 16, 2022 Posted March 16, 2022 Turns out he wanted an extra 10 million dollars more than he wanted a warm climate? No, Baerga leaked 5/70 to the Padres yesterday, lol. Oops.
jerb Verified Member Posted March 16, 2022 Posted March 16, 2022 Shi Davidi @ShiDavidi The Blue Jays and Athletics are close to a deal for third baseman Matt Chapman, multiple industry sources tell me and @thehazelmae. Pieces are still being finalized but expectation is deal will be completed. Major upgrade at hot corner for Jays. Shi Davidi @ShiDavidi Also hearing pessimism about Blue Jays chances of landing Kyle Schwarber. Sounds like he might be headed elsewhere.
glory Old-Timey Member Posted March 16, 2022 Posted March 16, 2022 Other than Ramirez which was probably a pipe dream, this was the best 3B acquisition the Jays could have made. Lots of K’s but power and great defense. Hopefully he can bounce back to pre 2020 form. Now just have to see what’s going the other way.
connorp Old-Timey Member Posted March 16, 2022 Posted March 16, 2022 Yuck on its own. I hope they don’t even give up Groshans. Why not aggressively go after E. Escobar for 2 years, who wouldve been easier to stomach at the plate and still play solid D
jerb Verified Member Posted March 16, 2022 Posted March 16, 2022 Chris Black @DownToBlack Thought this was interesting: Blue Jays pitching induced more groundballs to third base than any other team last year (420). On a player-level, Ryu induced an MLB-high 73 & Kikuchi 10th most (55). This trade is a wonderful fit.
Deadpool Old-Timey Member Posted March 16, 2022 Posted March 16, 2022 I'm digging the fact that Chapman is still pretty young. Though, I have to imagine that in a best-case scenario, he's only with the team for a couple of years (when one of our MiLB guys should be ready to take over...)
