Angels stink... lol

It's especially s***** because it's been close to a worst-case season for all of their regulars outside of Trout, Ohtani, and Ward:

Marsh - corner OF who doesn't hit the ball hard

Adell - might not even be an MLB player

Walsh - mediocre contact catching up to him, looks like a run of the mill platoon 1B

Rendon - broken

Syndergaard - stuff is gone and now looks like a league average starter with huge health risk

Detmers - sucks?

They have like 3 players they can rely on in 2023. I don't see how any path but a complete tear down makes any sense.

You sell the farm for Ohtani is what you do.

He’s not going anywhere IMO.

Arte Moreno is going to force his GM to do what he always does, keep all the star names/star power and do a half-assed rebuild that doesn’t work.

Mediocrity with stars like Trout and Ohtani on the team still sells tickets.

Ohtani would be just what the doctor ordered for the Jays, or for a lot of teams I guess.

But yeah, the Angels will probably hold onto him.

At least him and Trout were never Yankees. I'd rather they waste away in Anaheim than have become Yankees.

I kinda wish Trout would've signed with the Yankees. It would have been amazing for the health of the game. Trout's the kind of player who deserves to be performing on the biggest stage in the world.

I really don’t care about Trout (he signed that long ass extension knowing they were a dumpster fire so that’s on him), but I hope Ohtani is smart enough to get out of there when he’s a FA. I’d prefer if the Angels traded him this month to jump start the much needed tear down but I have a feeling they are going to milk this for as long as they can. We as baseball fans just have to hope Ohtani doesn’t take an extension before he has a chance to test the market.

Brad Hand in 2021 before we traded for him: pretty good

After we traded for him: maybe the worst reliever in the league

In 2022: Literally one of the better relievers in baseball with top percentile hard-hit rate

Bullpen constructions is what must drive GM’s to madness.

Also, Sandy Alcantara is on pace for almost 250 innings???

That is lunacy in this day and age. What a monster.

Cost us the playoff spot... now is good? Driving fans to madness.

Was also fine for the Mets in September 2021. How does this happen

Hello. My name is Brad Hand. I'm going to drop in for 3 weeks, blow 3 games, cost you a playoff spot then be gone, and be perfectly fine after. Thank you.

Ross's fault obviously.

Not sure I'd claim he's one of the better relivers in baseball now though.

Looks like the Commish has named Miggy and Pujols to the All Star Game to recognize their contributions to the game. I'm OK with this. Not sure if they'll actually play in the game?

Felt like more than just 3 games…. Maddening.

Maybe each get an at bat near the end of the game?

No one watching ball lately, obviously.

I mean the Bucs swept the Dodgers

Team's lose when scuffling, I bet the Yanks scuffle into the playoffs.

It happens, a lot.

Chill.

True. But its a little easier to swallow a weird series like that when you have been playing .650 ball. We have not been playing .650 ball and need to pull out of this recent nose dive starting tonight.

Gross and embarassing. These washed up fatties have a combined -4.7(!) WAR since 2017 (!!!) and their bloated contracts are emblematic of everything wrong with the baseball economy. If baseball didn’t have guaranteed contracts they both would have been out of the league almost 5 years ago. Please go away, terrible old men.

Eh, they've been bad for years, but they are still future hall of famers, and they won't be taking a spot from anyone. I don't see an issue with celebrating their careers, although I don't think Cabrera is retiring after this season, so they should have waited until next year's AS game for him.

Casuals will eat it up. People like BTS will shed a few.

Bit off topic but Harden just cut his salary by 15M to give Phillies more money to get whatever assets they need for a championship push in 2023.

Has that ever happened in baseball?

I doubt it, but there aren't many player only option years on contracts anymore. Usually it's just team options or mutual options, which are really just team options in disguise. Opt-outs exist, but players will very rarely opt out unless they 100% know they are going to make more money.

Didn't Toronto players want to all sacrifice a bit of money one year so the team could sign Ervin Santana?
