Is Lewis cooked? Hummell's put up big time minor league #'s but he's entering his age 28 season with no success at the majors

I enjoy this line of thinking.

Seattle must like Hummel for statcasty reasons, based on MiLB data.

His MLB sample showed 71st percentile Max EV and 88th percentile sprint speed and 93rd percentile arm strength.

Evidently he is tooled up and he did have back to back .300/.400/.500 lines in AAA.

Could be one of those guys who prospect lists just missed for various reasons. I mean he's very old so that matters.

Ah the non-tender deadline is today. This is where things start getting interesting.

MLBTR

Perhaps the most significant decision any team faces due to today’s deadline is that of the Dodgers on former MVP Cody Bellinger. Just a few years ago, he was widely considered one of the sport’s brightest stars, but back-to-back disastrous seasons at the plate, combined with Bellinger’s projected $18.1MM salary for 2023, could give the Dodgers pause about retaining him for next season. Bellinger still has value as a plus baserunner and excellent glove in the field, but his .193/.256/.355 slash line since the start of the 2021 season inspires little confidence in his bat going forward. As one of the game’s financial powerhouses, the Dodgers could conceivably be more comfortable taking a risk of this nature than most teams; a one-year, $18.1MM contract would not be quite as painful for them as it would be for others should Bellinger struggle again in 2023. If the Dodgers ultimately do non-tender Bellinger, his free agency will be a fascinating one to follow, as he would join a thin center field market behind top option Brandon Nimmo.

Decent reclamation project for a non contender

But no serious contender can afford to let him hit full time

Yeah but even a non-contender wouldnt want a reclamation project at 18 million+

Because his arb 1 salary was 11.5M after winning MVP. That set the bar for the rest of his arb years. Crazy but true

MVP season set him up, man. Can't go back down.

If you suck and your arb 1 salary is $2M, but then you get better, they adjust your pay. But if you start out great, and then suck, they don't adjust it down. That is f***ing stupid. This is union non-sense IMO. It's not like FA's have to be paid more than they were under their previous contract - they get paid what their worth based on previous and projected performance.

How is Bellenger's arb number any worse than someone signing a huge contract then falling off a cliff? At least this time it happened to someone who didn't already have like $100M+ in lifetime earnings.

It was probably a win or concession in whatever CBA it took effect. But honestly there’s probably not many extreme examples like Bellinger, where there’s going to be owner pushback in future CBAs

well it doesn't need to be adjusted down through arb

these are non-guaranteed deals so if the team does not think the player is worth anything close to the arb projection anymore they just non-tender them

and some other team can then sign them for whatever they are actually worth

I guess - but in some cases, the team would like to keep him at their true value. I admit this doesn't happen very often, so it's not a big deal.

Mike Puma of the New York Post reports that the Mets are acquiring right-handers Elieser Hernández and Jeff Brigham from the Marlins.

I thought the Jays would try something similar, picking up depth with options.

I like second from the left. The rest are bland.

The M on the hat is weird. Reminds me of the Marlins hat.

Seems weird but yeah I guess it makes sense...

I can firmly say that all 4 uniforms are pure trash. I can't imagine paying someone to come up with those.
