Anthopoulos is playing 4D chess at this point in his career

If he was still in Toronto the team would be 5 games up on the Yanks right now.

Soto would be a Blue Jay

So do the Braves have the 3 most team-friendly extensions in baseball now? Not sure how AA, and pretty much only AA, is able to get these contracts done.

Yes, smells fishy

The A's just released Elvis Andrus in the midst of a 2 WAR season, good baserunner (although not fast at all anymore), still plays a passable SS, and league average hitting although the statcast numbers don't really love him. Feels like they just gift wrapped a contender a capable bench infielder with experience for the league min.

Now this is f***ed up. How could Ownership okay those big offseason contracts if his job was under any type of scrutiny?

It was obvious from the moment Semien and Seager were signed that the Rangers would probably still suck

Yeah it makes little sense

Should've been able to eat the contract and get a prospect a couple of weeks ago...

Yeah I thought that too. The team was nowhere close to ready for big FA additions. I wonder if it was JD and his baseball ops that pushed for them, or of they came from ownership.

"Everybody knows I'm an everyday player. So doing this, it's not fun for me," he told the San Francisco Chronicle. "Of course I'm upset. I'm pissed about it. But like I said, the best I can do is stay positive and wait for my turn and be ready whatever happens."

Paul Beeston once said IIRC that AA was such a good negotiator that "he could talk a starving dog out of a steak".

Lol, Well when the Jays talk about our WIN NOW mode in the next few seasons, Braves have a very large win now window.

Rangers Fire President Of Baseball Operations Jon Daniels

By Steve Adams | August 17, 2022 at 11:35am CDT

The Rangers are dismissing longtime president of baseball operations Jon Daniels, Ken Rosenthal and Levi Weaver of The Athletic report (via Twitter). Texas announced the move shortly thereafter, adding that general manager Chris Young will now oversee all baseball operations decisions and processes. The move comes just days after the organization fired manager Chris Woodward.

“This morning I informed Jon Daniels that his contract would not be renewed at the end of the season and that is being relieved of his duties effective immediately,” managing partner Ray Davis said in a press release announcing the move. “Jon’s accomplishments in his 17 years running our baseball operations department have been numerous. He and his staff put together the best teams in the franchise’s history that resulted in five playoff appearances and two American League pennants between 2010 and 2016. His impact on the growth of our player development, scouting and analytics groups has been immense. Jon has always had the best interests of the Rangers organization in mind on and off the field and in the community.”

“But the bottom line is we have not had a winning record since 2016 and for much of that time, have not been competitive in the A.L. West Division. While I am certain we are heading in the right direction, I feel a change in leadershiop of the baseball operations department will be beneficial going forward.”

And they have him fire Woodward a couple days ago and now fire him? Puzzling and unprofessional.

The Rangers are even better than I thought they'd be. Their Pytho is 57-59 and they have a pretty solid farm system too.

But they've been pretty damn bad ever since we whipped them in the playoffs in 15-16 and it's very much a what have you done for me lately kind of league. All told they could probably do a whole lot worse than Daniels though. Seems like ownership should have cooled it on the expensive contracts and waited on the farm until they made big signings.

You'd have to think that he somehow talked Ownership into the idea that by signing Semien, Seager, Gray that they would be a contender this year and after buying that BS, Ownership has now had enough.

um....not so much Elvis. He kind of reminds me of Kevin Pillar at SS. I mean you have to be confident to play in MLB, but he's been a below average starting SS for like 5 years now.

Now that they turfed him lets see if anyone picks him up.. I hope he fades into the sunset never to be seen again.

This is probably just the A's realizing that since they cant get anything for him player-wise, theyd rather not pay him for the rest of the season, plus he had a vesting option for 2023 that was very close to coming up, they would have had to pay him 15 million next season.

This is a massive salary dump for no real reason other than not wanting his 2023 option to vest. That's probably why they couldnt trade him at the deadline too, as teams would want no part of that vesting option.

Doesnt this kind of thing seem like the kind of thing that should have a grievance filed over? LIke, he's no star player anymore sure but he's only a shade under league average OPS this season, it's not like they can justify the release due to his on-field performance. This is simply dumping a guy to get around the vesting option for 2015. I dont think this is a good faith move.

One caveat applies, in that if they allowed him and his agent to quietly ask around to see if anyone would pick him up if he was released and they found a team that's ready to take him on.
