That Trout video is fake (as noted), but I did see an old video a few days ago of Gary Sanchez hitting a check swing HR to right field at Yankee Stadium a few years back (juiced ball) - and it was real :)

If this is really how most pitchers are feeling they have to do something...

I don't understand this. I expected him to say that they are slick or the seams are too high or too low or something that he didn't like. But to say the balls are all inconsistent is really weird. And to say that they are different from inning to inning? WTF?

Is it like the batch of balls used for an inning are consistent, but the groupings of balls in the humidor are different? Not sure how many balls are used per inning, but like these 50 were all made by Bill and the next 50 were all made by Jim and the next 50 were made by Steve and they all make them a little bit differently?

Rawlings have been making balls for like a billion years. Seems very odd that they would have quality control issues. Is he suggesting MLB wants to have different balls used at different times of the game? That seems like a stretch to me. I can see them f***ing with how much juice the balls have, but not this.

I also feel like we should be seeing pitching ask for new balls all the time and throwing ones that are s***** out? I haven't seen that at all so far. In fact, I think you see that a lot less now than we did 10-15 years ago.

This fascinates me.

It's shocking that MLB isn't competent enough to provide the players with a consistent ball. Well, not shocking if you're familiar with MLB, but a major sports league struggling to provide a reliable ball is absurd.

Cohen is still butthurt:

"Per source: Steve Cohen walked through the visiting clubhouse in St. Louis last night and made it clear that any Mets player who hits a home run off Steven Matz today will get a new car."

Imagine if that just makes everyone's swings too long and he ends up dominating

When you go to a Little League game and a literal shootout breaks out.

f***ing horrifying. Feel bad for those kids and also the fear their parents must have been feeling.

The account that tweeted that is a notorious troll. Check his bio and stickied tweet. He's not a real reporter, lol.

I can't imagine raising children in a culture where that's a thing you have to worry about. I don't understand how people tolerate that.

Miles Mikolas said this morning that he hasn’t had the same experience with the baseballs this year that Chris Bassitt described last night. "It’s not the ball’s fault. Take some responsibility for your actions," he said.

Mikolas theorized that perhaps Bassitt, on a cold night, didn’t have enough sweat to mix with rosin. "If you’re not comfortable with a ball, don’t throw it. If you toss back ten in a row, maybe that sends a message."

Mikolas also theorized that perhaps pitchers — not Bassitt, pitchers in general — were reliant on sticky stuff for so long that the art of rubbing up a baseball has gone by the wayside.

It's funny how Bassitt was essentially defending Cardinals pitchers (his quote was about Mets players get HBP so much). The shade Mikolas thinks he's throwing on Bassitt here indirectly puts more blame on his own team for hitting them.

I think Mikolas is just calling a spade a spade - regardless of teams/rivalries, etc. I obviously have no evidence, but I tend to believe Mikolas is more correct. Curious to see what others around the league say and if there's any investigation or proof provided.

Yeah I can see the league making baseballs different for everyone, but not no bad that they are drastically different from inning to inning. I very much think they took some juice out of the ball this season though. The short spring training + more relievers should account for the tremendous lack of offensewe've been seeing so far.

The only thing that I can think is that maybe they take them out of the humidor before the game, and like the 4th inning and the 8th inning or something? So they have differing levels of humidity during the game.

Though, I have zero idea how humidors impact the ball, or how long it would take for that effect to wear off.

Not exactly perfect, but looks like humidity changes in the ball would be very minimal over an hour.
