RobinThicc Verified Member Posted February 5, 2021 Posted February 5, 2021 Luba is getting absolutely trashed in her replies. I don't get it. Probably upset Mets fans. Looking at this contract, she did an amazing job. One hell of a deal for Bauer.
vaff Verified Member Posted February 5, 2021 Posted February 5, 2021 Exactly what decision I expected him to make. Now I think he ends up doing well, but not nearly as good as last year. And will likely end up being like the third best pitcher on the Dodgers. There’s no shame in that, though, obviously.
Krylian Old-Timey Member Posted February 5, 2021 Posted February 5, 2021 2/$85 is bonkers. He'll be the most hated athlete in sports if he sucks. But sucking for only 2 years is a lot more palettable than a 9 year deal where the player tanks after season 3.
Spanky99 Old-Timey Member Posted February 5, 2021 Posted February 5, 2021 Kyle Glaser @KyleAGlaser Trevor Bauer's reported salary in 2021 ($40 million, per @Feinsand) is larger than the current 2021 payrolls of the Indians, Pirates and Orioles, according to Spotrac. (h/t @jnorris427). lol... this is crazy, too much.

G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted February 5, 2021 Posted February 5, 2021 Mets fans can go f*** themselves lol. I'mso happy he went to the Dodgers instead of the Mets And that the Mets fans got fyxjed over by Nightingale like we did by Hazel Mae Yay yay yay

The smartest org in baseball was willing to give Bauer that salary you would think that would give them a clue.
glory Old-Timey Member Posted February 5, 2021 Posted February 5, 2021 Luba is getting absolutely trashed in her replies. I don't get it. Probably Mets fans. It will take DJ LeMahieu five and a half years to reach the amount of money Bauer will get in 2. It will take Springer over 3 years, and that's with a front loaded contract + signing bonus. I know most MLB players want the long term security at a lower AAV, but Bauer's contract is great. It's NBA money.
jerb Verified Member Posted February 5, 2021 Posted February 5, 2021 Jeff Passan @JeffPassan The Dodgers are blasting through the luxury-tax threshold with Trevor Bauer's deal. Before: ~$205M, about $5M under threshold. After: ~$240M, about $30M over threshold. And they still have been in talks to re-sign Justin Turner. Either way they'll have highest payroll by far.
saskjayfan Old-Timey Member Posted February 5, 2021 Posted February 5, 2021 Could the Jays get Price and a prospect from LA in exchange for taking his contract (so LA can stay under the luxury cap)? Not many teams are looking to add payroll.... I've been calling for the Jays to trade for Price for some time. 2 years at 16 AAV. I think he's going to have a great year.
jerb Verified Member Posted February 5, 2021 Posted February 5, 2021 Mark Feinsand @Feinsand Despite getting $40 million in 2021 and $45 million in 2022, Bauer's CBT figure for the Dodgers will be $34 million per year, which is the AAV for the three-year contract.
dineke Old-Timey Member Posted February 5, 2021 Posted February 5, 2021 I wonder what our offer was if we were in the top 3.
jerb Verified Member Posted February 5, 2021 Posted February 5, 2021 Jeff Passan @JeffPassan I think Trevor Bauer getting paid as much as some teams' entire payrolls this season says a lot more about those teams than it does Bauer or the Dodgers.
L54 Old-Timey Member Posted February 5, 2021 Posted February 5, 2021 Lol Mets Glad he ended up with the Dodgers.
Jimcanuck Old-Timey Member Posted February 5, 2021 Posted February 5, 2021 Jays need to ink Seager after this season. /s
43211234 Verified Member Posted February 5, 2021 Posted February 5, 2021 I guessed 1/$42M back in August and thought that could be a touch high. Pretty good guess though! https://www.bluejaysmessageboard.com/threads/9301-Around-Baseball-2020?p=1446389&viewfull=1#post1446389

Pretty good guess though! https://www.bluejaysmessageboard.com/threads/9301-Around-Baseball-2020?p=1446389&viewfull=1#post1446389 So the douche probably would have topped $50M on a true one year deal.
TwistedLogic Old-Timey Member Posted February 5, 2021 Author Posted February 5, 2021 So the douche probably would have topped $50M on a true one year deal. Yeah, but I don't know who would actually offer him that. The way his deal is currently set-up, it looks like the Dodgers gave him the money he wanted for two years and then had a phantom third year added (almost guaranteed to be opted-out of) just to drastically reduce the luxury tax implications of the deal. His 3-year contract with them hits the CBT at a 34M AAV. And even with the reduced hit, they're paying $10.1M in tax fees. That means Bauer's already costing them more than $50M for 2021 (not taking into account any salary dump moves they make like trading away Price). If he had been asking for a one year deal at 50M, the AAV would also be 50M and the overall cost to the Dodgers would probably be near 70M for just Trevor Bauer. On a one year deal, the cap hit alone would probably disqualify both the Dodgers and the Mets.
TwistedLogic Old-Timey Member Posted February 5, 2021 Author Posted February 5, 2021 Finally got around to watching and it looks pretty obvious that he recorded three different versions based on where he was most likely to sign. I wouldn't be surprised if he already had all three uploaded to his YouTube and just switched the Dodgers one from unlisted to public when he finalized his contract. Obviously the interesting thing of note there is that the Blue Jays were one of the final three teams and didn't actually pull out until yesterday evening. That makes me optimistic that they've still got quite a bit of spending space remaining.
Eat My Shatkins Verified Member Posted February 5, 2021 Posted February 5, 2021 If the Jays were in on Bauer, then you know they are hot after Odirizzi/Paxton right now, or maybe they even had a trade for a good starter on the back burner waiting on Bauer's decision. Hopefully some good news coming in the next day or two.
RobinThicc Verified Member Posted February 5, 2021 Posted February 5, 2021 Doesnt seem likely that the Jays would come even remotely close to matching that type of contract, imo.
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted February 5, 2021 Posted February 5, 2021 Good thing for the Mets they pulled off that trade with Cleveland They wanted Bauer Springer Realmuto And got none of them
RobinThicc Verified Member Posted February 5, 2021 Posted February 5, 2021 Need Lindor to leave them after the season too. Lol would be hilarious, even though its really unlikely.
L54 Old-Timey Member Posted February 5, 2021 Posted February 5, 2021 Small little Marcus' tweet didn't age very well lol
L54 Old-Timey Member Posted February 5, 2021 Posted February 5, 2021 Mets fans thought they were going to end up with everybody They end up with one guaranteed year of Lindor lol. What a disaster.
dineke Old-Timey Member Posted February 5, 2021 Posted February 5, 2021 Need Lindor to leave them after the season too. Lol would be hilarious, even though its really unlikely. It's the mets. Lindor will probably continue his offensive decline from last year.
Laika Community Moderator Posted February 5, 2021 Posted February 5, 2021 Mets fans thought they were going to end up with everybody They end up with one guaranteed year of Lindor lol. What a disaster. Where do the Mets even go from here? They'll end up signing like, Jackie Bradley Jr., Trevor Rosenthal, and Jake Odorizzi to three year deals.
