Did anyone actually read this? I hadn't taken a look yet but holy s***, this is a pretty f***ing major exposé with a ton of receipts.

 

Haven't looked at the spin rates but maybe this is why Chatwood is s*** now.

I didn't check to verify it, but I read that he became s*** prior to the investigation leak.

Could be that he's just s***. Could be that someone clued him into the investigation and he stopped immediately.

 

Need to see the spin rate data to be sure and I'm too much of a noob at Baseball Savant to figure that out.

He definitely could have been tipped off. Just because it leaks to the public doesn't mean clubhouses weren't informed ahead of that.

Yeah, that's a f***ing joke. In practical terms that's just a skipped start for SP. Needs to have escalating penalties for repeat offenders.

Lol. A 10 day suspension with pay is a vacation. Might even help some rookies stay making big league money rather than getting optioned to AAA.

Well, in fairness it prob makes a lot of sense (as well as they can enforce it anyway). Union wasn’t going to agree to anything else I imagine and it acts as a notable penalty to the team.

Penalty is fine as long as it is actively enforced during games. Having a pitcher removed from the game is a huge penalty

Oh I know it was likely all they could do based on the CBA/MLBPA, but it just sounds funny in writing. I guess the embarrassment of being lumped into the cheating category should act as enough of a deterrent now that pitchers can't get away with it.

Yeah, the media narrative and also letting down your teammates is a strong enough deterrent for sure. Pay is pretty inconsequential but it does ring funny

IIRC... it was through the same amount of games AVG/HR and RBI's it was close.

 

I checked FG's and the advanced stats aren't close. :P Ichiro got screwed that year in '04.

I don't think it would be that huge of a difference. If anything, his wRC+ would probably be lower because league averages would be higher, and he'd probably have a slightly weaker MVP case (though he'd still be front-runner). At some point you can only be so good. Guy is literally lapping the league right now with a 206 wRC+.
