JBJ isn't very good. He's Kevin Pillar but 2 years younger and bats left handed which comes in handy because he's playable more often. 24 mil for him would be a hard pass from me.

That’s a little unfair for JBJ, he’s been a grade above Pillar imo.

JBJ has a career .321 OBP and 9.3% walk rate with an ISO .173.

Being left handed helps and he’s also been able to stay healthy since 2016. Playing between 133-156 games per season.

Pillar has a career .299 OBP and 4.1% walk rate with an ISO .146 as a right handed hitter. He’s got a tick more stolen bases but JBJ grades better in other metrics. Pillar K’s a bit less, but his WOBA is also lower by a tier.

The bench mark is not too high for a plus glove centerfielder. On a non-covid year, 30 yr old JBJ is definitely worth 24M/2yr while Pillar is not really worth it.

Yeah I agree that JBJ is better but I do think it's a lot closer than people realize. At least it's a lot closer than Pillar getting non-tendered and/or signing for $4M while JBJ gets 24M guaranteed.

JBJ's career stats are fueled by his '15 and '16 years and then a BABIP inflated 2020. In '17-'19 he had a very Pillar-esque 89, 90 and 90 wRC+. Hitting left-handed basically saved him from hitting worse than Pillar does. In '20 the stats ticked up but his statcast page seems to show that it was all a mirage. His EV and .305 xWOBA were career lows. Pillar seems to be a little bit better baserunner for whatever that is worth.

Fielding-wise JBJ blows Pillar out of the water so that obvs can't be ignored but Pillar was pretty good all the way up until last year when it bottomed out in his age 31 season. If JBJ can continue to play really good CF defense at age 31 and 32 then the deal won't be that bad but he's a 4th OF/platoon player to me and not someone I'd want to give 12M AAV too.

Yeah but it would have been like, JBJ + Wong + Bauer + Paxton instead of Springer + Semien + Yates + trading for Matz (or whatever, you get the point)

No way were we ever going to beat that Bauer offer and clearly we wanted nothing to do with Paxton if we couldn't match/beat what he ended up getting.

JBJ + Wong + Odorizzi + Hand would have been my guess. Think I just puked comparing that to what we got lol.

Dodgers player development is cutting edge. I remember there was a Baseball-America article that highlighted how they have some of the best facilities, coaching, more nutritious foods/spreads, specialized development plans, and resources available to players throughout the organization. But they also basically train them to be major leaguers from the start. They relay information/scouting reports in the same format to minor leaguers that they do to the major leaguers, which makes it almost a seamless transition for some of these guys from the minors to the majors. That's why you see guys like Bellinger, May, Gonsolin, Smith come up and basically start raking right away.

Jays have also been implementing some of the same things the Dodgers have been doing the last couple seasons, and we're just now seeing the fruits of it. It's why I had the utmost confidence in what Shapiro/Atkins have been doing, basically since they first got here.

Gotta give up talent to get talent. If Stripling can give us 2 good years as a spot starter/long man, then it's worth it.

We already loaded up on pitching this past draft and will have an opportunity to in the future. We drafted Kendell Williams in the 2nd round. We'll probably have a chance to get someone like him again this upcoming draft. Not saying he's replaceable, just that it hurts losing him less when this front office has been really good in the drafts these past couple seasons.

Sam Dyson suspended for the 2021 season for being a ****.

Abuse is just like drugs: Gateway drugs like Weed, party drugs, leads to coke, leads to heroin, leads to crack cocaine.

Or in Dysons case: Verbal spat with JB, leads to an unwanted tap on Tulo's ass, leads to beating on his GF.. All from a bat flip..

Ohtani was looking good, hitting a 100 MPH, lol... my body's ready!

If he hadn't been getting squeezed, he'd have struck out those batters walked. Dinger over the batters eye, think it was 468 Ft... Amazing, he can do it all, so gifted.
