IF the rise in strikeouts has been partly because players are willing to trade strikeouts for homers

AND IF the ball deadining has a significant negative effect on flyball distance

THEN the answer is yes. Players with middling power will return to more traditional, contact-oriented approaches AND/OR teams will give playing time to more traditional, contact-oriented hitters.

We will see.

You won't see a sudden change though. And if most of the rise in K's is due to pitch design and increased velocity then there might not be a big or appreciable change whatsoever.

Dead ball + Spin rate hacks = pitchers dream

Nice deal. I would have liked him for that price, but a good starting pitcher should be our main focus.

So it looks like both the Reds and Cubs have asked for the Mets’ top catching prospect in a trade for Eugenio Suarez or Kris Bryant

If the Dodgers need to make a trade for either, we know what the starting price will look like

Gotta be some of that Royals pitching going the other way.

Lindor and Carrasco package was light but one of your best prospect now gets you 1 year of Bryant?

There's no way the Mets deal Francisco Alvarez for Bryant...... but its the Mets, who the f*** knows

Mets missed out on Bauer, so Bryant and Hendriks to the Mets for Alvarez might have traction?

Outfield prospect Khalil Lee is expected to go to the New York Mets in the three-way deal with Boston and KC that would send Andrew Benintendi to the Royals. Outfielder Franchy Cordero would go to the Red Sox once the deal is finalized, sources tell ESPN. Others are involved.

With JD Davis and his 4 yrs of control going to the Cubs, might work.

RHP Josh Winchowski goes to Red Sox in Benintendi deal

Chris Cotillo

@ChrisCotillo

He was just sent from TOR to NYM in the Steven Matz deal. 22-year-old ranks as No. 26 prospect in Mets' system, per @MLBPipeline. Tall righty, projects as back-end starter or long reliever.

Our worst nightmares have come true. Winchowski is coming back to haunt us for years to come.

I'm hearing the Red Sox will end up with more than two players in the Benintendi deal. Could be as many as five. As others have reported, the deal isn't completely done yet.

Red Sox are dealing Benintendi for Franchy Cordero and Winchowski? WTF? There must be more to this.

Meh, Benintendi was god awful in 2020 with injuries. Cordero has an extra year of control, also injury prone but has some monster tools so there is some upside. Winckowski is whatever, pitching depth. The Red Sox will probably get a lottery ticket or two more to round it up. The deal makes sense for all teams involved.

They were apparently desperate to cut ties. I thought for sure he was going to Miami. I think Frenchy Cordon Bleu will rake in Fenway..

Is Benintendi a FA next year?

Offseason after that. He has two more years of team control remaining, although he'll actually be relatively expensive for this one at $6.6M because the Red Sox tried to avoid arbitration while he was still good and paid above what he's currently worth. I actually imagine this is one of the reasons that they wanted to move on from him.

It’s weird they wouldn’t just bet on a bounce back instead.

Yeah. And they're even paying money to help move him. Seems odd to me. I mean even just giving him a half season chance to increase his trade value wouldn't have been crazy.

It's extra weird because they aren't even a horrendous team. Some holes, sure, but the core is good and they have a puncher's chance of getting into the playoffs.

They must just think Benintendi is almost a push with Cordero... and projections kind of support that. Steamer600 Franchy = 1.3 wins, Tendi = 1.6 wins.

Cordero is also more tooled up than Benintendi and has more team control so sure.
