Oh I totally agree. To walk away from ~ $46M? I sure as hell wouldn't. He is probably hoping for COVID-shortened seasons so that the embarrassment of him looking sad on the bench is quicker. I find the whole thing so fascinating. If I'm Davis I manufacture an injury. He's got to have some aches and pains he can focus on. And stay away from the PEDs. His playing days are virtually over. I hope he doesn't restart PEDs hoping to make a come back at 34.

This is why I mentioned it’s hard to to hate Cano. Davis could try to incorporate some PEDs to become relevant at the cost of a whole lot of cash. It’s not the smart thing to do but i can appreciate the effort.

There was some major college football coach that recently got fired with millions and years left on the deal and he told the university to keep it. He also tossed all his assistant coaches under the bus, so that took some of the honor away

Colome is a pretty fascinating pitcher in that he's beat his DIPS his entire career - albeit in a smaller sample than necessary to stabilize since he's a reliever - and especially so the last two seasons, despite not inducing an extreme amount of groundballs (he's pretty much average at that), or an extreme amount of infield flies (an average pitcher like Borucki has induced more) and while he's had some success missing barrels for the most part, it's nothing special and his induced EV and hard hit % have consistently ranked between bad and awful.

Twins To Sign Alex ColomeFebruary 3rd, 2021 at 4:34pm CST • By Connor Byrne

The Twins are signing free-agent reliever Alex Colome to a one-year deal, according to Jon Heyman of MLB Network. The contract includes a $5MM salary for 2021 and an option. In all, it’s a $6.25MM guarantee, per Mark Feinsand of MLB.com.

His #'s show that he basically has a horseshoe up his ass.

Definitely. But why so consistently? How does he own a career BABIP of .274 over 400 IP, is he sacrificing a different animal every day before a game? Is it the same species every time?

Did Taylor Rogers die or something? Why would the Twins be using Colome as their primary closer?

I wouldn't read too much into Nightengale's tweet past the actual signing lol. He's the same guy that tweeted this (later deleted)

[Nightengale] The #Whitesox $3 million signing of Carlos Rodon, their former closer, gives Tony La Russa tremendous options on days Liam Hendriks needs a rest while also limiting his innings

He then tried to save face by tweeting this instead?

He has no idea what he's talking about.

what's happening with Roberto Osuna? Is no one picking him up because of the domestic violence thing or was his injury last year that severe that no one trusts his arm?

I'm going to go out on a limb and guess it's the latter. When a doctor says you need Tommy John it's going to spook teams. Now another doctor said he could go the rest and rehab option. He'll have to throw for teams and even if it goes well teams will think that the arm could go at any pitch so he'll have to take a low base heavy incentive deal. I would not be adverse to exploring Osuna on such a a deal though. A million base with 5 or 6 in incentives based on appearances seems reasonable.

I'd be absolutely okay with Osuna coming back, but the optics would make that pretty much impossible.

Both, probably?

It's both most likely.

Osuna 25 years old, just when most players have started their MLB career. He's already a journeyman veteran with somewhat notable stats and might be done.

It is interesting that Osuna and Giles, who were the 3rd and 6th best relief pitchers in baseball between 2015 and 2019 both remain without a job. I know both are hurt and possibly unable to contribute in 2021, but you'd think someone would hand them a 2 year deal to help the 2022 team (ala Pineda, Kahnle, etc.)

Biggio is the young up and coming cornerstone while Osuna is the washed up vet even though he's younger. It's crazy how things work at times lol.

Im also surprised Sanchez is struggling to stay in the bigs. It felt like when his fingernails weren't bothering him, he was really good.

He was Gibby's killer 8th inning guy

And then I thought he would stick as a starter but...

I don't think Osuna or Sanchez are done, well not yet. Although I think Osuna should've elected for TJS last year.

Yeah

Backlash agasint his domestic assault charge

Backlash against the Astros

Shortened season

Seems like it would have a been a good time to have the surgery and disappear for a year+

Plus he could have volunteered to take some "anti-domestic violence" course to show how enlightened and rehabilitated he is now to get a job!

Andy Martino

@martinonyc

There is a lot of talk in the industry right now that Trevor Bauer and the Mets are quite serious. Neither player nor team side is confirming anything. Reporter has his spidey sense tingling tho. That's all I have for you for now.

Mets are engaged with Trevor Bauer. They expect to hear something — one way or another — in the next 24 hours or so. Situation is fluid but there’s hope. @ByRobertMurray tweeted that the sides are talking.
