You can't be using a fancy word like "paramount". Consider the audience.

You're part of this audience. Was Paramount too complex for you?

It amazes me how much discussion Sanchez has generated up to and including this point in his pitching career. You know, for somebody who sucked at pitching outside of one season in 2016. He’s mostly been a bad pitcher and is very likely still a bad pitcher.

Competitive walks for days. I miss those post in every Sanchez outing.

Right-hander Matt Shoemaker and the Minnesota Twins are in agreement on a one-year, $2 million deal, pending physical, sources tell ESPN. Shoemaker, 34, can earn another $250,000 in performance bonuses.

I know there’s more to it but in the circumstance where all our SP were healthy and ready to go, if I needed to have someone start one game mI’d give it to Shoe over anyone but Ryu. I guess that’s less praise for Shoe than it is an indictment of the others

That's making the grand assumption that Shoemaker would actually be healthy heading into the playoffs.

That's exactly how I feel too. I really liked him and would take him over Matz and Roark in a heartbeat. There was a reason why he started Game 1 for us meaning he's seen as a top tier pitcher.

Although I can see the other side too because he just can't stay healthy. It will suck if he does for Minny.

This is true and why I kicked it off as hypothetical

Kevin Pillar to the Mets. Looks like it's a 1 year 5M guarantee with some sort of way to get to 2 year 10 mil.

I hadn't been keeping tabs on him since he left but he's actually been pretty good.

$5M seems like a little too much for a OF who can't hit and has been worth -10 DRS the last 3 seasons

Crazy how the Mets struck out with every free agent and even their plan B's. Wonder what Bradley Jr will end up getting.

So does Kevin Pillar sucks or is he actually kind of ok?

1.7 WAR for the Giants in 2019 and 1.1 in the shortened season last year. $5 Mil seems reasonable for a guy like that but twitter seems to think this deal is a joke.

The defense is starting to tank, which was expected for a player his age, and I don't think you should be buying into his 106 wRC+ in 2020 that came with a career high BABIP with worse contact rates, I'm sure he's had stretches of 50-60 games before where he's looked like a passable hitter, but ultimately the plate discipline does him in and he's never show the power to make up for it. Also signing Almora and Pillar, two versions of the same player, seems like poor roster management.

The projections have him as a 1 WAR player which I can believe. It's a cromulent signing for a team that everyone - especially Mets fans - was expecting to spend big on with their new owner and his fancy new toys (money) and yet they missed out on every high profile FA. Obviously they had their one big splash in the Lindor + Carrasco trade, but ultimately their offseason came down to that rental with free agent signings of James McCann for more money that most would have guessed, Albert Almora, Kevin Pillar, Trevor May, Aaron Loup and Jonathan Villar.

Did the Mets need to sign everyone? Probably not. But they didn't really address their biggest needs anyway, with the DH not happening for another year they'll have Dominic Smith and Brandon Nimmo playing at their worst positions along with J.D. Davis playing any position at all bleeding runs defensively. From the perspective of Mets fans it's like if Ross Atkins and Shapiro talked the big talk about 4 good additions/2 elite ones and then their final offseason outcome was like, a Kris Bryant rental and signing Jake Odorizzi with a bunch of garbage sprinkled in there.

I’m also still not entirely convinced Lindor will sign a deal before free agency and him testing the market is going to be a huge risk in terms of resigning him.

The Mets offseason started out strong with McCann and Lindor/Carrasco, but ultimately still feels like a little bit of a disappointment with their subsequent moves. I think they were one big move away (Bauer or Springer) from putting themselves over the top, but now it seems like they’re scrambling a little bit to fill out the roster.

That just simply isn't true. Nobody sees Shoe as a top tier pitcher. There were a lot of circumstances around that decision last year.

I like Shoe and he's someone who may benefit a lot from the new baseball. But he can't stay healthy.

It's just funny because of the circumstances. Chasing Springer and they end up not even getting JBJr. They just signed Almora too, and Kevin Pillar is the same player.

I wonder if Almora and his agent are pissed here. They probably picked the Mets because there was an open bench spot and a path to playing time. Now he probably gets optioned

I meant top tier pitcher for the Jays. I probably would have went with Ryu and Walker before Shoemaker but when healthy (huge issue), he is friggin good.
