I’m talking out my yang a bit but physically I’d imagine there’s a steady curve downwards for SS and CF after 30.

There's a steady curve for all players, connor.

So basically you would just trust Lindor & his agent's word?

No, you get so and so for Lindor, we'll give you a window to extend him, for this much more if you come to a deal. In laymen terms.

10-4, thanks!

There's no reason to trade for him then. There are lots of ways to get 4-5 wins in here for one year.

I want Bryant dude, no need to preach, lol. Sorry, or Turner in that regard.

Just like we did with RA Dickey and the Phillies did with Doc

I'd happily surrender our version of Drabek, Tailor (or Walrus) and D'arnaud for Lindor. What's that like, Kloff, Moreno and Will Robertson?

(Edit: I mostly made this post to remind everyone about Brett Walrus).

Its a trade off. Take advantage of Lindors prime, hopefully win a WS or two and stomach the 2nd half of the deal.

You're going to want to take advantage of the rest of Lindors prime, which probably the next 5 years. If you acquire Lindor, you need to add more to really make this team a WS contender. Lindor + Springer/Realmuto + a top half of the rotation arm probably puts them there.

Who knows if they have the payroll to do that. That Lindor contract will be massive, so I could understand if they passed tbh.

lol... you're so dumn. They still walk away like gravy on player value through those 5-7 years alone most likely.

They could also keep gurriel and the 3 to 4 wins a season he gives you and just sign Bauer for 30 mil a season for 5 years. A 4 win player making 15 mil over the next 3 years is a valuable commodity for a team that doesn’t have unlimited funds.

I don't understand why people are assuming that Lindor will become an albatross on a 7-8 year deal. He just turned 27 and an 8-year deal would take him through his age 34-season. He's an elite defensive SS who's been (and projects as) a comfortably above-average hitter, has plus speed, hits well from both sides of the plate and provides lineup flexibility, and his only career DL trip was for a calf strain in 2019. I consider him pretty safe as far as long-term mega-contracts are concerned. Certainly a risk well worth taking.

Ya but the problem is the most players in his position sign contracts that take them to their late 30s. He has all the leverage to ask for it like the Betts/Harpers of the world.

If we don't give him what he wants then he just waits for the following offseason when more teams should be recovered from Covid.

I'll be surprised if Lindor gets more than 7 or 8 years. Those 10-year deals are usually reserved for elite hitters, and Lindor isn't that. Something in the range of 8/240 is about the max I'd expect for him.

Arenado signed an 8 year extension one year from free agency that added 7/$234 for him after his final arb year.

That's probably the low-end for Lindor and the two players are pretty similar... excellent two-way players, same career wRC+.

Being said, Machado and Lindor are also similar players and Machado got his $300M.

We know that Lindor is looking for $300M.

I guess Arenado's opt-out complicates the comparison though.

I don't understand why we're all hot and heavy over Lindor.

He's a great player, but we don't need him.

1) We have a great shortstop already, who seems to have decent defense at shortstop, based on defensive ratings.

2) Offense is not our problem. Pitching is our problem. If we're going to be trading players away, let's address that.

3) Lindor is going to be bloody expensive. And revenues could be light until COVID clears up. Really going to tie our hands.

4) There's a decent amount of solid 3B that we could bring in to boost offense a lot cheaper. (Maikel).

Lol Maikel Franco is not boosting anyone's offense. He has a career wRC+ of 91 and projects to be as good at Travis Shaw was (and projects to be), who we just non-tendered.

How can you say we don't need one of the best young players in baseball? If you get a realistic chance at one of these players then you try to make it happen.

Defense is a huge issue for us and Lindor not only adds elite defense at one of the most important positions on the field, he moves bichette to a position that he has an easier chance to become elite at (2B or 3B). Oh and being a great top of the order bat and great baserunning is a nice to have too.

Lindor is really good at baseball - like all aspects of baseball and is probably just reaching his prime offensively (yes the defense and base running will decline).

I also love that he's a great character player and a batter who doesn't strike out a ton. Lindor at SS probably makes Bo well above average at 2nd or 3rd and would immediately make our infield defense elite.

There's a s*** ton to like about this fit. The real question is the cost (both in terms of prospects and money).
