saskjayfan Old-Timey Member Posted August 21, 2021 Posted August 21, 2021 He challenged Shea Hillenbrand to a fight too. Either way the guy had two shots and couldnÂ’t get them there. I was elated when he was fired again, not sure why everyone likes him so much. One. Shea Hillenbrand is batshit crazy. This is the older more mature version of Shea Hillenbrand talking about that incident. Seriously, the dude is crazy and he said himself Gibby was the best players manager. I think I'll side with Gibby on that one. https://www.bing.com/videos/search?q=shea+hillenbrand+on+john+gibbons&docid=608017577966200973&mid=4E27DFF023F5E8EE42C24E27DFF023F5E8EE42C2&view=detail&FORM=VIRE
spats Verified Member Posted August 21, 2021 Posted August 21, 2021 How many feel the same as me that when the Jays are in a close game, numbnuts is going to f*** it up somehow leading to another loss?
The Iceman Verified Member Posted August 21, 2021 Posted August 21, 2021 Just has no feel for his BP. Cimber had one career save coming to Toronto. He is not a guy to use in late inning spots. Now Cimber is like the rest of the BP. Confidence shattered. Gibby was a master BP guy. A couple seasons he got a lot out of a suspect pen. Schneider Manager and Gibby bench coach.

I do. Said it long ago, Dumtoyo manages using his gut feels. He's going to get outmanaged every damn game.

That's ancient news tho, the last time around went smoothly.
Boxcar Old-Timey Member Posted August 21, 2021 Posted August 21, 2021 Did anyone bring up the hilarious fact that the Blue Jays are the only team with a 100+ run differential that is currently missing the playoffs? Charlie Montoyo is basically the Anthony Lynn of baseball. Wonder if Atkins will understand this and fire him like Lynn was.
Ryu In My House Verified Member Posted August 21, 2021 Posted August 21, 2021 Honest question... Why don't they bring back Gibby? The team's ready to compete again. He's out of a job and would undoubtedly love to come back for the Jays again. Seems like a no-brainer. It's a young team, we need a skip with some big league experience and who's experienced some post-season success. I think they really wanted a communicator who spoke Spanish when they hired Montoyo. I don't think either is Gibby's strong suit.

Spanky99 Old-Timey Member Posted August 21, 2021 Posted August 21, 2021 I don’t think he does want to return. He likes it at home in Texas. I think if the Rangers offered him the job he would take it, but other than that he’s probably fine relaxing at home. No man, he wants back even in different roles, he'd take the skipper role in a New York minute.
Ryu In My House Verified Member Posted August 21, 2021 Posted August 21, 2021 That entire bottom of the 9th inning against the Tigers was just really horrifically bad managing. What would you have done differently? Without the 20/20 hindsight? I am genuinely asking.
Spanky99 Old-Timey Member Posted August 21, 2021 Posted August 21, 2021 What would you have done differently? Without the 20/20 hindsight? I am genuinely asking. It's pretty obvious, not pinch hit Valera for Kirk to bunt, it's that simple.
max silver Old-Timey Member Posted August 21, 2021 Posted August 21, 2021 It's pretty obvious, not pinch hit Valera for Kirk to bunt, it's that simple. I've been trying to come up with a reason to justify bringing in Valera to bunt. All I could come up with was trying to avoid Grichuk hitting into a double play. But we certainly know how that turned out.

JFD Old-Timey Member Posted August 21, 2021 Posted August 21, 2021 and then at least call off the bunt with two strikes and the corner infielders 10 feet from the batters box. What is the probability of success at that point with a pitcher throwing 100mph?

What is the probability of success at that point with a pitcher throwing 100mph? Still half decent if you bunt to 3rd. I will give it to the Tigers on that play. It was an excellent defensive play. I was trying to see if Teoscar got a bad jump as I thought the bunt was good enough.

connorp Old-Timey Member Posted August 22, 2021 Posted August 22, 2021 I came across an article on my news feed for the first time last night in ref to “fire Montoya”… with all the Twitter chimes to bolster the narrative. I was thinking it was only just some zealots here. Maybe he is in the hot seat.
Boxcar Old-Timey Member Posted August 23, 2021 Posted August 23, 2021 I guess harmless bantz are against the rules now. Sorry, haven't been keeping up with the changes.

Knowing how Rogers (and society in general) works, it would be better if we took a Charlie quote/action way out of context, pretend to be offended by it, and then go on social media to ask for his job. Why does Montoyo only have white Americans catch Ryu instead of Kirk? Maybe there's a racist angle here. Let's get creative.

There's way too many idiots running around doing stuff like that. Be better. Stick to facts. I mean, it's not hard to back up the argument as it stands.

I mean, it's not hard to back up the argument as it stands. Montoyo was equally bad in 2019-20 and his contract was still renewed. I think the chances of him coming back, especially with a cupcake schedule towards the end of the season propping up the win total, is at least 70/30 at this point. Time to shove your morals aside from the greater good. (by the way, I was/am clearly being facetious, but if people take my idea and run with it, I'll allow it)

TheHurl Site Manager Posted August 23, 2021 Posted August 23, 2021 If the Padres can do it, you can too! Padres had different expectations and have reportedly have clubhouse issues. As long as Charlie has the team's support I think he'll be around still.
spats Verified Member Posted August 24, 2021 Posted August 24, 2021 Did anyone catch Charlie's interview with Arash the other day on Blue Jays Central when asked what he said to his players after another horrific loss. He just said several times with that stupid look on his face "Just go have fun". WTF. Of course no follow up by Arash.

When you're doing your dream job which also happens to be a job you have no business doing at this level, then you tend to have a "just happy to be here" mindset. Not surprising that he's trying to give that same mindset to the players. Kinda wish Donaldson was still here, even with an unmovable contract, just to see how long it would take him to make Charlie cry.

You know Tatis is the kind of teammate who lets everyone know that he's carrying the team singlehandedly.
