I could see this having a big impact on attendance. Not only is the Trop the ugliest stadium in baseball, but traffic makes it like a 2-hour drive from TB, where most of their fans are. A new park in a better location, plus the perception of a fresh start free of any residual Naimoli stink could turn that franchise around.

He owns under 50% of the Rays. If you combine the wealth of everyone that owns that team, it's well over 800 million. If you want a new stadium, finance it yourself.

Approx. 24% of the people that live in the Tampa Bay area are retireds. When they arrive there if they are baseball fans, they already have their team. They are yankee or red sox or even blue jay fans and that allegiance doesnt change. They will go to games, when "their" team plays, or they will go once in awhile just to see a ballgame, but they dont become Rays fans. This to me, besides,the traffic nightmare has always been the Rays biggest problem. No young men or families attending, whether in the playoffs or not.

Biggest problem with Tampa baseball is a fair share of people are snowbirds and leave in the summer (Lightning are number 1 team in city even ahead of the Bucs) and like someone said a lot of people are from somewhere else and already have teams. I've gone to Tampa/Clearwater a few times and almost all of the locals I meet are from up north who moved there.

 

Also the summer time is so hot you need to have a roof of some sort like Houston or Miami. Not many people are going to want to sit there when its 35 Degrees and 80% humidity.

Unless land costs are insane they should be able to. Safeco and Minute Maid were built for quite a bit less than that

Yes but the bulk of the retired people are in Saint-Petes, the area they are moving away from. Not saying that this is guaranteed to work but at least by moving to a much better park in a better location they are giving themselves a chance which they really didn't have before.

The Yankees are apparently pursuing a trade for Profar. Cashman on top of things. That's exactly the type of risk the Jays should take, but Cashman will acquire him for jack s*** and he'll probably turn into something good.

I don’t think that’s true. Longo has missed 12 games total in the last 5 years, while Tulo can’t stay on the field. I think TB could move him without eating any salary, while Toronto would have to eat at least half of Tulo’s.

Yeah I don't see it either. Cashman is running the team like a mid market GM. He's not going to waste his money on Cobb when he can wait a year and put it towards Machado and a much better free agent class. He will probably end up signing CC to a one year deal.

I agree. I really expect to just see them sign CC to a 1 or 2 year deal to fill out that rotation.
