Bobthe4th Old-Timey Member Posted November 8, 2017 Posted November 8, 2017 July 2 Daniel Flores (Catcher Boston 3.1Millions). Died... Cancer treatment complications Just 4 months ago he signed as the top catcher amateur international free agent for enough money to change his and his family's lives. A more important/shocking fact - he was only 17.

Terminator Old-Timey Member Posted November 9, 2017 Posted November 9, 2017 Geezus that's f***ing terrible. What a s***** couple of days for baseball.
Bobthe4th Old-Timey Member Posted November 9, 2017 Posted November 9, 2017 Hopefully that finally ends any interest in Bruce from the Jays.
Abomination Old-Timey Member Posted November 9, 2017 Posted November 9, 2017 Hopefully that finally ends any interest in Bruce from the Jays. I think the words "oh hell no" come to mind.
jays_fever Old-Timey Member Posted November 9, 2017 Posted November 9, 2017 Is this the same Jay Bruce that has put up 3 war in the last 4 years
Sammy225 Old-Timey Member Posted November 9, 2017 Posted November 9, 2017 My f*** these prices seem ridiculous.
KingKat Old-Timey Member Posted November 9, 2017 Posted November 9, 2017 My f*** these prices seem ridiculous. This seems like a Bautista scenario where he's basically pricing himself out of the market.
Deadpool Old-Timey Member Posted November 9, 2017 Posted November 9, 2017 3 years, $48M is about where I'm comfortable with Bruce... More than that and I'm totally out.
Brownie19 Old-Timey Member Posted November 9, 2017 Posted November 9, 2017 3 years, $48M is about where I'm comfortable with Bruce... More than that and I'm totally out. dude - you misspelled 'two' and 'thirty'
bendera3 Verified Member Posted November 9, 2017 Posted November 9, 2017 3 years, $48M is about where I'm comfortable with Bruce... More than that and I'm totally out. I don't think I'd do more than 2 years. He hasn't been that great of a player and he isn't good defensively.
Deadpool Old-Timey Member Posted November 9, 2017 Posted November 9, 2017 dude - you misspelled 'two' and 'thirty' I would definitely be MORE comfortable with those numbers, yes.
KingKat Old-Timey Member Posted November 9, 2017 Posted November 9, 2017 Between Smoak, Pearce and Morales, all the spots where you can bury a pylon are accounted for so I don't really get why the Jays would even be targeting Bruce. I mean sure you could works some platoons in there but filling your bench with defensively limited platoon players is a terrible way to build your bench. I get that the FO liked Bruce at one point but presumably that was because they saw the potential for a bounce back season. To their credit, they were right about that breakout but now that it has happened and that he wants to be paid accordingly, pass, pass, pass.
Ray Verified Member Posted November 9, 2017 Posted November 9, 2017 It's funny how all the players the FO preferred over Bautista for the OF before they signed him actually ended up having decent years. Bruce, Gardner, JD Martinez. I don't mind Bruce, but I'd rather get someone cheaper like a Dyson or a Jay if you're going with a lefty that can platoon with Pearce. Atleast they can play defense and in the case of Dyson steal some bases even if he isn't that young.
Boxcar Old-Timey Member Posted November 9, 2017 Posted November 9, 2017 You know, I don't blame Bruce for wanting to get paid but I can blame him for not learning from Cruz, Bautista and Morales. Dude, no one wants to invest in a defensive pylon over 30. Get a hold of yourself.
P2F Old-Timey Member Posted November 9, 2017 Posted November 9, 2017 Seattle should covet Jay Bruce pretty aggressively. He's an ideal Mariner. No-defense/1B-only type with mad power and questionable contact abilities? Pick 'im up!

G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted November 9, 2017 Posted November 9, 2017 Once you gain a reputation, it's hard to shake it. Dat outfield Eric Thames Michael Saunders Nelson Cruz You'd need 2 more guys to have a normal amount of OF range coverage (actually not sure they were all in the OF at once but still...)
Captain Adama Old-Timey Member Posted November 10, 2017 Posted November 10, 2017 Once you gain a reputation, it's hard to shake it. Seattle has been bad offensively for 10 years and nothing has changed.

Linked above you'll find all offenses ranked by their wRC+ over the last two seasons. You'll see that Seattle ranks in 2nd place. You'll also recall that you stated that they had a bad offense. Given the evidence presented, would you concede that you were mistaken? If so, please respond simply with "I was wrong" . Thx.
