Brownie19 Old-Timey Member Posted November 20, 2017 Posted November 20, 2017 I don’t think that’s true. Longo has missed 12 games total in the last 5 years, while Tulo can’t stay on the field. I think TB could move him without eating any salary, while Toronto would have to eat at least half of Tulo’s. He's obviously coming off his worst season, but he's 1 season removed from back to back 4.5 WAR years. That said, his years of elite defense are gone and his 4 year wRC+ average is like 108. Owed $81M over then next 5 years (ages 32-36) - it isn't an awful contract really...but there is significant risk (as there is with any long term deal). I'd always hoped Longo would be the next Adrian Beltre. Age gracefully to complete his HOF career.

If I jumped in the air, and this board saw me off the ground for one small moment they'd think I could fly. You could not find a more similar player to Adrian Beltre after 2009 as Longo after 2017. They are the same. Longoria probably won't recover to have a great 30s, because most players don't. However just keep in mind Adrian Beltre had a four year run (with Seattle) where he looked like he was fading too. Longoria 2017 and Adrian Beltre 2009 could not be more similar

I don't think TB would get much of significance back for him unless they ate some of the contract, but I think teams would be willing to take the entire contract of their hands.

I'd take the Over of Tulo getting $30M on the open market. 3/58 isn't crippling even with him being 33.

I’m expecting a better player (Cozart) to get about 3/40. I think Tulo would sign for 1/10 or something on the market this year.

Jimcanuck Old-Timey Member Posted November 20, 2017 Posted November 20, 2017 I think Tulo could do better than that this off season if he was a free agent despite his awful 2017 Maybe marginally. Bautista 1 yr removed from a 4.5 WAR season, and 2 years from 6.3 could only muster 18.5 M 1 yr guaranteed. Teams dont pay for past performance, but future expectations. For Tulo, that is almost zilch.
Jimcanuck Old-Timey Member Posted November 20, 2017 Posted November 20, 2017 Tulo plays SS and is still passable there so he's in a very different scenario than Bautista. Orioles would give him a payday. I expect Tulo to be a negative defender this year. The range has gone to s***.

He for sure would get more than 1 year unless you mean you mean he'd take 1 year to try to rebuild value.

Brownie19 Old-Timey Member Posted November 20, 2017 Posted November 20, 2017 I like the Detroit Alt. 1 hat...and the Royals one tbh.

burlingtonbandit Old-Timey Member Posted November 20, 2017 Posted November 20, 2017 Jays one looks like one of the worst. I like the white panel but the red leaf is awful.

burlingtonbandit Old-Timey Member Posted November 21, 2017 Posted November 21, 2017 Kevin Maitan will likely be available as well.
vdubmvp Old-Timey Member Posted November 21, 2017 Posted November 21, 2017 I'm not as against the Canadian themed stuff as most on this board but even I can admit that it is hilariously ham-fisted at times. I mean, it's just a giant red maple leaf on a hat. If you changed the blue side panels to red, it would literally be a canadian flag hat. It just feels so unnecessary since our actual logo already has a maple leaf anyway.
Jonn Old-Timey Member Posted November 21, 2017 Posted November 21, 2017 I love Canada but please get rid of the f***ing Maple Leaf. Some of those hats are really nice tho.

Brownie19 Old-Timey Member Posted November 21, 2017 Posted November 21, 2017 What would you guys propose be on the Jays spring training hats if/when they are ready to dump the maple leaf? Maybe something with the CN Tower? Something with Ace to pay homage to the awful logo we had with the T and Ace in it?
