Guess I do. My point was the Yankees aren't spending money like they used to. Anyone who thinks Cashman is spending $600M on two players in the same off-season is kidding themselves. I fully expect one of the two end up Yankees though.

Sure, but why not? You're only going to lose a 1st and 2nd round pick to do it. Guys like Machado and Harper are the guys you actually want to spend big on. They'll still both be young enough that they'll probably provide good to great value for the first half of their deals at minimum, barring catastrophic injury.

It's not like signing over 30 Rodriguez or over 30 Pujols to guaranteed lose-value deals.

I still don't see it. Stanton's deal already looks scary and he's locked up until he's 37. If Machado and Harper get similar deals......

Hence the catastrophic injury, which in Stanton case ... pretty much fits the bill or freakish and unlucky.

Harper I'd probably be a bit wary of given his injury history, but still... even at 30 million per year he needs to average like 4-5 WAR to be worth it, depending on where the value is of WAR at that point. I think 4-5 WAR is pretty safe for either of those two for the majority of a 10 year deal

All long term deals look scary.

Stanton's looked stupid from the beginning. He can never stay healthy, probably would have settled for a much smaller contract but Miami was being dumn.

Exactly my point. Would you give Machado $250-300M with the know knee issues? I sure wouldn't. Harper inconsistency worth the same? Not sure what this catastrophic injury Grant's saying Stanton had, but I''m sure everyone will know soon enough.

I haven't made a post in this discussion.

Their goal was to have Stanton for a few years at a cheap cost and then trade him once he starts making making really good money/before the opt out.

Now they're stuck with it since he isn't opting out.

This one surprises me:

Anderson made the rotation over Montgomery.

Might as well milk whatever they can while his arm is intact. Keep Montgomery stretched out and he'll take over whenever Anderson gets injured.

God the Rangers are such pieces of s***. Odor looks like he wants to fight Kershaw because Clayton got annoyed that Chirinos took for f***ing ever to get ready for a pitch. How dare he!

Not that I know of, but it shouldn't be an issue considering Kadri can still play in the US

Right, a non-issue unless there is some player from the wrong part of Asia.

Look at these quotes about Giolito:

"I think he will be a bullpen guy down the line, kind of like a Jon Rauch or Luke Hochevar," said a National League executive. "He got hyped up a lot and Washington found out later. Usually, the drafting team is the last to know."

"I've heard a lot of mixed stuff over the years," said an American League scout. "Is it a repeatable delivery and arm action? There's some question there. I think his stuff has been overplayed as front-line, and I'm not quite sure that's consistently the case."

my oh my http://www.espn.com/mlb/story/_/id/18980472/is-white-sox-pitching-prospect-lucas-giolito-worth-hype

"SHORTLY BEFORE THE White Sox assigned Giolito to their Triple-A camp this week, he warmed up with several other pitchers in left field while Don Cooper looked on from a golf cart. Cooper, Chicago's pitching coach since 2002, is a blunt, plain-spoken New Yorker with a world of knowledge and an affinity for tough love. When he sees Giolito's progression, a piece of him flashes back to Jon Garland, another 6-6 righty who logged a 6.46 ERA in his debut with the White Sox at age 20. Garland, another high draft pick, never developed into a superstar, but he did win 136 games and make an All-Star team."

Too bad Dinger quit the LOD and denied us the opportunity to gloat about this.

I'd be too busy gloating about stealing Bellinger and Vladdy Jr in the draft to care.

Also, I traded Gio Gonzalez for Giolito, so no big loss there. I'd still do that trade, hands down.

You could have had Kimbrel + though.

People are very likely overreacting to Giolitos struggles. His peripherals are great for his minor league career. This isn't a Mark Appel situation. My primary concern with the lower velocity right now would be that he's hurt and doesn't know it yet...

Shut the f*** up and keep your ******** in the politics thread. No one gives a s*** about your stupid moral crusade.

Are there any Muslim MLB players that are US non-citizens?

I don't think so, but Yu Darvish's father is Iranian.

I'm sure its a non-issue. But if he ever went to Iran to visit family he would probably be subject to a more rigorous screening process upon re-entering the US.

It relates to the possibility of a MLB player not being permitted back into the USA after a Toronto series, or from wherever. It's baseball related.
