The journal/academia system creates direct incentives to conduct biased research or fudge results.

When people here tell you irrefutably, objectively, factually that you are wrong you still can't or won't see it.

Something like 50% of academic papers are never read by anyone other than review peers. Get stupid/lazy/partisan peers and it's not that hard for garbage to get published.

Junk science for profit is also a huge journal issue at present https://www.thestar.com/news/world/2016/09/29/canadian-medical-journals-hijacked-for-junk-science.html.

Do I actually think you fudge results and let bias creep into your science life? Absolutely. Abso-f***ing-lutely.

I will say objectively, factually, impartially, truthfully, irrefutably, that you're a dishonest scientist. I base this entirely on your baseball forum posting history.

Is it possible that you live a double life, have split personalities, and are an honest person in science? Sure. I guess. I doubt it though.

This is the best post that has ever been posted on BJMB

Holy crap. I am often skeptical of the "smart guys". NJH is a smart guy, let there be no doubt.

Let's not rule it out though.

One of the great ironies of Grant's life is the following:

In terms of life accomplishments and demographic measures the most similar poster to Grant is:

Olerud363

1. Olerud363 has an undergraduate STEM degree from a very 'prestigious' Ontario University - check

2. Olerud363 has a masters degree in a STEM discipline - check

3. Olerud363 has spent significant time in northern Ontario and even some in Sault Ste. Marie - check

4. Olerud363 has been "published" in several scientific journals - check

The difference is Olerud363 is quite aware that the scientific publication process is 25% joke, 25% infomercial, 25% honest mistakes, and maybe 25% real.

Staying away from the negative stuff. I think we all know what/who those issues are.

Really enjoy BJMB. Its actually hard to create this list. Some very intelligent people on internet Message Board: NJH, Dinger, BTS, Int Wok, AG, Boxy, Dick_Pole, KK, Terminator, olerud etc etc. who make some pretty incredible/thoughtful baseball and OT Forum contributions.

Really enjoy King and GD as young guys who contribute a lot. And what would the board be without Spanky? (presently banned again I see).

Glad Gov is a mod for this year. He is active and loves the GDT so that should be helpful.

Just came in to see if anyone voted for me...whaaaaa

This reminds me, I might have to change my vote to Art Vandelay as the funniest poster on the board. Gets me every time.

I generally stay out of the high school girl yearbook threads like this, but I have to say that I'm genuinely surprised you think I'm the nicest guy here, Jim. We've gotten into some severe disagreements at times. I suppose I've just never let my frustration be all that apparent. Cheers.

Anybody that goes out of his way to stand up for another, and debates disagreement without getting personal, is a gem in my books.

Thats a good post ^. Agree with you on IWok's approach. You take a lot of really negative heat on the board. I don't understand it. Although we probably share the same center-left political philosophies, I often disagree with your posts. But you try not to get too personal and I do admire how you hang in there on what you believe, even if overly stubborn sometimes. Of course, you took a vicious pounding on Sanchez and.....

Love you too, BC.

Man, I can't tell you guys enough how much I love this community. There's just nothing else like this anywhere, from my experience.

Also want to give a shout out to the mods who do not have an easy job but do it extremely well; knowing when to let disagreements and tangents flow and knowing when to put them to a stop. I can't think of a time off the top of my head where a mod locked a thread or banned a poster before it was warranted.

Particularly KingKat. You are an awesome mod, man. I'm sorry that I occassionally make things difficult for you but know that I only have love in my heart for you, big guy.

I loved this community too until I realised my contributions are s*** and not respected by my peers. Screw you guys.

Speaking as the current Best Poster and Funniest Poster, you should try harder in 2017. The Forum Poster Awards are pretty exclusive, and very serious.

You can't just be a solid normal poster of average frequency and expect to get any votes.

Try being being more controversial next year, or try increasing that post count threefold.

What drivel. You should be clubbed like a baby seal for offering such worthless advice.

Hmm, if I was really doing it right, I should have broken this post out into multiple comments.

Researchers without PhDs are almost never asked to referee on articles in reputable journals. I have a very hard time believing that a government researcher with an MSc is refereeing journal submissions.

I've been asked directly once and referred by colleagues with PhDs on at least 2 occasions. It's not that uncommon when they are overseeing several projects and not directly involved in the work.

I think you're a good poster fwiw

You are getting advice from POTY, you don't need to be addressed by a rookie Brownie.

Hey I added "fwiw" for a reason, fine by me if that worth is zero! lol

Perhaps. My own experience is in medical data analysis. I've been told the same problems are in every field. It is called "p-hacking" a.k.a. cherry picking. Researchers retroactively mine data for relationships, and end up finding patterns by random chance.

I am sure it happens. At least in my field it probably is less so though.

Wow! After seeing the s*** show of the last couple pages... (shakes head) this crap and gang style attacks really does sadden me!!! BJMB we are better then this, how about we prove it!

Grant did not deserve that and we actually were having a nice chat till the haters came out to hate!

And in fact actually only proving what we we're talking about!

Grow up and Shame on you and your house!

Wow, just Wow!

Great post. I love this community too. Hasn't been a day I can remember where I didn't visit the board at least a couple of times. Even when I'm on a beach I make time to check in and see what's up.

I don't even bother with Twitter or anything like that for news as I know if it's being reported it'll be here. Between that aspect and the intelligent discussion generated this place is second to none as a baseball fan.
