I don't think LA would give up Urias and Pederson for JD.

You probably don't get Pederson but they might give up Bellinger/ another pitching prospect. I feel like everyone always underestimates the return for star players.

Agreed, at some point the value is just too good, and you hope the Jays realize before some other teams do

I missed this, but I agree. Like, getting Edwin for only 3 years at 20 per is a no brainer to me. Eat half Smoak's salary and move him. There is no way someone wouldn't sign him to a 1/4M contract if he was a FA.

Smoak is 30 years old and has zero career WAR in over 800 games.

Very real chance he wouldn't get a major league offer and would be seriously weighing a contract offer from the KBO if he were a free agent.

Not that it matters in this context. If there's an upgrade they should just cut him loose and swallow the pill.

Mitch Moreland actually got a major league deal from someone so you never know.

I think that's a stretch.

I would obviously start with Urias and De Leon as mandatory pieces and work from there would love to add one of Pederson or Bellinger but dodgers probably don't give up all there top prospects in a deal.

Like others have said if we got Pederson, urias and De Leon.....then signed Turner could be a crazy swing for us towards a youth movement.

Well considering the minimum league salary is $535K I'd have to disagree.

We need to add 4-5 wins in order to be where we were last year whether that's in the corner outfield or the pen which is much harder. We must have the lowest win projections out of the corner outfield in the majors. I think the nukber is 1

I wonder if there's a team out there in need of depth at 1B and working with a surplus of arms. Swap out Smoak for a middle reliever making similar or less money, likely would have to target a bounce back candidate coming off a down year. We may not save much money in the process but if we could reallocate Smoak's useless salary into an arm that turns out to be decently reliable, that could still turn out to be a solid gain.

Ryan Madson is the only name that I can come up with that is any sort of fit.

Ugh need some more rumours, been silent as f*** since the winter meetings ended.

Got a gut feeling were going to make a big trade

11-min Josh Donaldson interview:

Baseball talks starts around 7:40. Rest is basically about MMA, but still a good listen

Cliffs:

- Doesn't know if Edwin or Jose will be back. Was hanging out with both of them a couple days back. When asked if he thinks they're gonna be back, he just kinda shrugs it off, but his reaction is kinda telling. Says "they'll find love somewhere".

- Him and Gibby have a "father-son" relationship.

- From the conversations he had with Shapiro and Atkins, he describes them as "very very smart and intelligent with their decisions when it comes to pitching".

I see Atkins implying that EE is not in their sights due to the fact that they already signed Smoak but this to me just doesn't fly because as you suggest - they can dump Smoak in a trade to get someone else's mediocre contract. It's not like Smoak is untradeable - he offers still some upside - he is decent at first, decent power and cheap. Plenty of cheap teams can use him. And such teams probably have an overpaid guy but perhaps at a more serviceable position that we can use - perhaps a back-up catcher or outfielder.

I would try to offer EE 3/66m with two 1/23 team/vesting options. He get paid - if he performs he gets the additional years - if he doesn't then he becomes a free agent again.

EE is worth the effort to try and do something here. He is worth moving the deck chairs around a bit.

This team was borderline playoff bound. I am not exactly sure how removing JB, EE, Cecil, and having Pearce and Morales as the replacements exactly makes us better. We don't have the ability to trade for talent and other than EE who exactly replaces the production?

Watch Smoak have a monster year and smash 40 homers.........:D

You have him playing in the pcl most of the year? I'm pretty sure we moved our AAA team to buffalo a few years ago

Every week I see Shane Greene's name on MLBtraderumors. Can we just trade for this guy already and use him exclusively as a reliever dammit.

love Shane Greene

Not sure where to put this but this is a fantastic interview with Josh Donaldson. The first half of it is mostly MMA but they talk some Blue Jays at the end as well. Ariel Helwani did a fantastic job getting a lot of great insight out of JD.

Pittsburgh have a logjam at 1B and three bodies capable of at least standing at the bag, all better than Smoak.

Who's playing first there besides Jaso?

Just curious, was Josh Hamilton released by Texas? So he'd be a free agent correct? Wouldn't be a bad guy to sign on a minor league deal, though he probably prefers an American team.
