On the drew hutchinson trade. two things i don't understand.

first how did the blue jays get two of pittsburgh's top 10 prospects for this guy.

And the second is how bad is pittsburgh's prospects pool if these two guys

were in they top 10.

 

And once again we gave up a very good prospect for a guy who

will be with the team for three months. And gaudapule chavez

will be a future star now for houston. for years to come. What

a huge mistake again.

 

Where would McGuire and Ramirez rank in the top 80?

I'm not entirely familiar with these prospects, but I'm not sure why this is a "rape" as some people have called it. I'd probably rather have Hutch than Liriano due to the salary difference, and the prospects don't wow me enough to get excited about the swap. Hopefully I'm just underrating the prospects.

Is it unrealistic to think that Mcguire could be backing up Martin next season?

 

I would say it's way more realistic to say he'll be a September 2017 call up. He has to be added to the 40 man the following off-season anyway. You usually don't see young catchers spending much time with the big club when they don't have much of a bat...and hasn't caught anyone in the org before Spring Training.

His age, solid bat speed, and strong K/BB ratios give me reason for optimism. He's holding his own at age 21 in AA, I don't know what people expect.

 

Sounds much faster on Radio I guess.

 

Summary: Terrific defender without much chance to hit due to poor bat speed and swing plane.

 

Though he has a pretty lefthanded swing, his slow bat speed generates little power, and he particularly struggles against lefthanders.

Yeah Grant shouldn't be made fun of for having a mental disability. He should be applauded for having a mental disability and being able to go on baseball message boards and forming somewhat coherent arguments like he does. It's pretty impressive actually.

Seems like very high risk trade. We're on the hook for $13 million next year for a possible Ricky Romero 2.0. Much higher ceiling than Hutch though and two seemingly decent prospects and an apparently solid defensive catcher. I like the trade overall, but Pittsburgh is the pitcher fixer organization and obviously they felt Liriano couldn't be fixed. Giving us their 8th and 9th best prospects to take Liriano's money and receiving a AAAA pitcher in return is a concern.
